This was the epitome of a lucky win! Where we got exactly what we did not deserve!

Another lucky win, but will take it! astounded that Dier is still playing for us, his beyond finished.
Romeu and Højbjerg are both twice the player he is

I do not want a good General, I want a lucky one.

It's a quote attributed to Napoleon but who knows who actually said it. The sentiment rings truer than ever after these last two matches.

Sess and Winks were our best players before Dele came on and changed the game for us. Tanganga did well but he was caught out for their second goal by dropping far too deep.

Dele's brother, thanks for the memories, but it's time to say goodbye. Two sublime assists

I really enjoy Jose's subs, very often spot on. It is not always the case that your plan A works. Jose's on-field management is really good

Alli did well, but not giving MOTM for someone playing 30mins. Winks by far our best among the players starting the game. Not that he was brilliant or anything, but at least he was decent.

Winks my MOTM.

Lloris 5 - very poor tonight on multiple occasions.
Aurier 6 - victim of Jose’s system 1st half, much better 2nd.
Tanganga - 7 - still learning but pretty good tonight
Toby 7 -
Jan 5 - teams that press him and run off him will get a lot of joy unfortunately. So sad to see his dejection as he trudged around the pitch. Think he will leave in the summer.
Sess 6 - two good runs in their 3rd. Otherwise too passive again.
Dier - 5 - not mobile enough for CM
Winks - 7.5 - game passed him by first half as he was not helped by his CM partners. Really drove us on 2nd half.
Ndombele - 4 - So skilful and two great turns / tricks. But ... he didn’t want to know after he got a bump. Looked woefully unfit as well. Will need a lot of time to settle and probably a super sub this season. We were much, much better once he departed.
Moura - 7.5 - Such poor decision making first half. So much better when running from deeper. Always puts a shift in. Really good goal.
Son - 6.5 - Too selfish tonight. Out of form, but still 4 goals in 4 games I think. Nice pen.

Gedson - 7.5 - nice cameo. Runs so smoothly with the ball.
Dele - 7.5 - great pass for the pen.
Sanchez - par.

Jose - 4 - Truly poor team selection. Hope we don’t see Dier and Winks in CM again (thought he learnt that lesson against Olympiacos months ago!). He should have changed it after 20 mins or at HT. He got lucky.

Winks MOTM by miles, his energy inspired the team and that's what led the comeback.

Lloris was a bit spill happy and this led to the Southampton equaliser, but he also came off his line well a few times and made one great save.

Aurier was ok, he kept the pitch stretched and was a threat in attack. Needs to do better tracking back to defend though.

Tanganga overall was good, outfoxed by Ings got Southampton’s second but that’s true of many defenders lately. Did struggle a little with Boufal’s trickery.

Vertonghen sadly looked like it was over and he knew it.

Sessegnon showed glimpses of his potential but his reluctance to assert himself hindered him impacting positively in either direction.

Ndombele started brightly, showed some skill, then disappeared. Needs to keep getting minutes to build his stamina, we need to be patient.

Dier made the odd nipped interception and played a couple of nice passes, but the game overall passed him by. I’m not sure there’s much left for him to offer either, sadly.

Winks was ok, he improved as the game wore on but struggled to get hold of the match early on. One of the few trying to bring our game up the pitch.

Lucas was our best presser, our most imaginative attacker and our best outlet. Great goal, Defoe like.

Son looked low on confidence, his runs going into blind alleys and his pace seemingly absent. Good penalty.

Gedson showed signs of his ability, he’s erratic in how he uses it but his calmness running with the ball helped win us the game.

Dele, for all he frustrates, wins us matches with his bloody minded insistence on trying the positive and unpredictable. Today it won us the game, as if often does.

Sanchez came on.

Thought Sessegnon was pretty good. You can see he's got bags of talent, played some lovely Davies esque passes into midfield/Lucas and Son in the first half and also displayed his dynamism/athleticism for the opening goal.

Wrong system for Dier. He can't be a Mid in this set up. Need to see him back at CB before writing off a talent like that.

Except when Dier was actually good he played as a DM. Astonishing that someone still fairly young can go from that good to this bad - and really no signs of him getting back to anything close to what he used to be.

Jose has finally found Alli's best role.

Super sub!!:p (I'm sure Dele will be ok with that...)

Winks Motm can't have been easy playing between a couple of statues. Provided impetus at the end to drive us forwards.

Good cameo from gedson too.
Son and Moura were infuriating but both scored.

Jan:(. :(
Dier :(
Hugo... he has to get out of his head. He overthinks everything how he didn't come out when Ings is pretty much 4 yards out when he hits the bar. Majority of his decisions are bad and have been for some time.

He learned his football in Portugal, was very good in our back line as a CD or CM when we played slow from the back with time on the ball.

This is different. Inviting teams on, quick transition etc. He's a good player. Just not in this system.

Moura my MOTM

Worked his little cotton socks off. Obviously Dele was great and changed the game

Special mention for Winks having to cover for Dier and Ndombele. Also Tanganga did great again, will learn from the Ings goal

The first half formation of him in front of a back 3 was awful. His special ability is to seamlessly drop back into defence when needed, but he can't if it is packed with CBs.

Once we went to a back 4, I think he really shone. He dropped back into the middle of defence, he covered for Aurier as he went forward, he acted as an attacking pivot and even had a good long range shot.
It was a Dier greatest hits show. I hope mourinho noticed what was happening.

Not motm though, cos of that first half. I gave it to Moura as he never gave up and had a great desire to score.

PS Jan coming off was one of the saddest things I've seen at the club. He was absolutely destroyed by this substitution.
