Not seen anything of the game yet but the fact that people are talking of Loris as a contender for man of the match worries me.

Should I be worried?!
Not too worried, we were 10v11 for about 35 minutes which was always going to be a challenge. Lloris was safe but only needed to make one absolutely stunning save.

Not really. Basically we went down to 10 men and therefore sometimes we left ourselves open. We also had a tough period between about 20 minutes till the penalty but generally we were better up until that point. when it went to 10v10 we looked most likely though. Though the game became very very open.

I have seen enough to know that we are going to well this season. This was always going to be a tough one. We would have lost this game last season.

We played away, had a penalty against us and a man sent off, and we still won the game with a clean sheet!

My MOM Dier with Lloris and Capoue a close second. Who said we shouldnt have started Lamela, he did well. Reminded me of Ronaldo in his young days, not afraid to muck in.

Ratings later.

Lamella got slated by Phil Thompson on Soccer Saturday!!

Not sure why people have given Capoue bad ratings - he was very good when played in midfield and the guy did about as well as expected as a makeshift CB - he did a great job for the team.

Lloris 7 - was there when needed, but contribution could be better.

Naughton 6 - unlucky guy
Dier 7 - solid debut, couldn't see in my dodgy stream who he was responsible for at corners where we were diabolic.
Kaboul 5 - Musacchio please come over here. Scary what happened to Younes
Rose 7 - on the ball and on most occasions he was pretty good, fair play. He could get more in the way of Downings crosses but better than usually. will be difficult to get in for Davies.

Capoue 6.5 - looked really good as CM in the first ten minutes. and very comfortable on the ball to play a solid ball upfront. As CB at times a bit in trouble and not so confident.
Bentaleb 6 - lost the ball very often esp in first half and misplaced passes. Added to that very slow. He will learn. Better second half.

Eriksen 5.5 - annoyed me today. Had the ball in several good spots to produce fuck all the whole game.He can be so much better
Lamela 6 - not his game. but he needs a bit of time and confidence . he showed pre season how good he can be.
Lennon 6 - contributed nothing again for the offense. Hopefully CHadli and Townsend can come in and give him a kick in the ass

Adebayor 5 - awful first touch and looked disinterested very often again. would have replaced him earlier

Townsend 6.5 - looked finally like a threat in the first ten minutes he was on. But he needs to get sth countable
Holtby 6 - okay. Will start on Thursday
Kane 6.5 - didn't set the world alight but played this beautiful pass to DIer. Fair play.

Mate we played for 60mins away to a team who beat us 3 times last season with 10men. It was our first game too under a new regime and all you can do is pick out negatives.

You say Kane made some sloppy passes but he also got the assist with a great ball and vision. For what it's worth while I didn't think he played that well I don't think Lamela is just showboating when he rolls his foot over the ball he is probing trying to look for openings in defence.

I hope you managed to enjoy the win as if you didn't in those circumstances and against west ham I fear for you for the rest of the season. coys
See my posts in the match thread.

They show my enjoyment, sorry you took my appraisal to mean otherwise.

Just pointing out that we are nowhere near ready and i feel our lack of pre-season games has left us not fit enough yet and not yet adapted to the style/plan Poch wants, and that was highlighted by our game plan dropping after 10 minutes and the subs being knackered after about the same amount of time.

We all know the pressing game needs fitter bodies, and i'm sure most/some of them will get there, whether they can do it soon enough for some is another matter...

That's why i for one am glad that we have a lot of games coming up quickly so that Poch can almost use it as an in season pre-season and work on a few things, especially in the Europa.

Lol I know. Other than the through ball mistake I was only pointing out what I thought... If top dog admin said it it wouldn't be as bad.
Not sure why people have given Capoue bad ratings - he was very good when played in midfield and the guy did about as well as expected as a makeshift CB - he did a great job for the team.

Thought he was poor in midfield west ham dominated the game for most of the 1st half when he was midfield

Not getting the praise for Rose. He did ok at times but repeatedly allowed Downing, a player with no pace, the space to cross, which was one of Spam's main attacking sources.

Lloris 8
Naughton NA
Dier 8
Kaboul 5
Rose 5
Capoue 7
Bentaleb 6
Eriksen 6
Lamela 6
Lennon 5
Ade 6

Lloris - 8 - Saved our arses at least once

Naughton - 6 - Was playing alright until the dreadful red card decision. Shouldn't put his hands up, it's probably a penalty but should never be a red.
Dier - 9 - Comfortable at CB, MOTM-candidate at RB post-red, and then finishes like a top class striker. T'riffic.
Kaboul - 5 - Still looks shaky, such a shame.
Rose - 7 - Struggled the first 15 but improved massively.

Bentaleb - 6 - Mixed bag.
Capoue - 7 - Good both at CM and CB.

Lamela - 6 - Tried but it didn't really happen for him.
Eriksen - 5 - A bit disappointing and looked dead on his feet the last 10 mins.
Lennon - 5 - Did very little.

Adebayor - 6 - Gave us our lifeline in getting Collins sent off. Isolated for the most part otherwise, couldn't get involved.

----

Holtby - 6 - Didn't seem very energetic.
Townsend - 7 - VERY energetic, instrumental in the turnaround.
Kane - 7 - Rated for the through ball alone. Woof.

Pretty much spot on - this was the game I saw. 9 on debut for Dier, who was very impressive and composed. Looks like nothing much will phase him. I thought Lamela had an ok game - not standout, but not terrible either - making the right runs and was always looking for the ball.

Kaboul looked well off the base, which is a worry. MM looks a must for us, but wouldn't be unhappy to see Dier partner Vertongen going forward.

Lloris - 8
Naughton - n/a (harsh decision)
Kaboul - 5
Dier - 9
Rose - 6.5
Bentaleb - 6.5
Capoue - 6.5
Lennon - 6
Lamela - 6
Eriksen - 6.5
Adebayor - 6
Townsend - 6.5
Holtby - 6.5
Kane - n/a (but great pass for winner)

I only really feel strongly that Dier was MoM, Lloris was runner up and Kaboul had a poor game.
The rest were a bit of a mixed bag; some good moments, some mistakes.
The real winners today were the management; 3 points in difficult circumstances.
Priceless.

I always thought Thompson is relatively balanced when he does our matches, praises when we do well and criticises what he thinks deserves so.

He is pretty damn grating when it comes to Liverpool but away from that subject he's ok.

Lloris - 8 (his usual good self)
Naughton - 4(was meh then was sent off on the penalty. Automatic deduction)
Dier - 9(soooooo tempted to go 10 here. What a debut. Great in the shalke friendly. Fantastic today then scored the winner. Nothing bad to say. MOTM)
Kaboul - 5(not a good game at all. A few stupid mistakes.)
Rose - 5.5(how many more crosses you gonna give up?)
Capoue - 7(good at CM. Did well at center half too)
Bentaleb - 5(gave the ball away way too often. Passing wasnt great. Not his best game. I know he could do alot better. Alot of potential here, IMO)
Lennon - 4(same as always. Runs and tracks back somewhat. Shit in every other regard. Get rid already.)
Eriksen - 6(not his best)
Lamela - 6(tried to do too much but looked to be the only player trying to create something out there)
Ade - 3(terrible. Not fit at all. Cant head the ball. Awful touches, bad hold up. Bad vision.)

Subs
Holtby - 6(energetic. Game changed when he came on)
Townsend - 6(game changed when he came on. actually getting his shots on target for a change. Still needs to learn to be a teammate and run with his head up)
Kane - NET (was poor until that pass, really. But 10 min isnt enough time to give a rating)

Poch - 6(Didnt like the CM pairing from the start. Holtby or Mason should have started over Bentaleb. Should've subbed Holtby for Bentaleb instead of Lamela when he came on. Left Ade on wayyyy to long. You could see early on in the first half he wasnt fit at all. Should've gone off at half. Poor man management, IMO. But Holtby and Townsend changed the game. Thought he made the right call to shift Capoue to center back when Naughton was sent off. Would have lost if we sticked with 3 at the back, IMO.)
