I gave MotM to Lucas, who I thought aside from his excellent goal, ran really hard and drew some fouls which allowed us relieve pressure at key times.

Gazzaniga, Sissoko, Dier & Kane also good I thought. Dele decent. Tough day for defence. Wolves really are very good.

Crediting this win to Mourinho. Whether his ideas of defense came off or not and we were just under pressure due to our own failings, we don't win that game without a winning mentality. That gives us something to work with.

Dier MOTM from the players. Gaz close second.

Vertonghen had a nightmare of a job to do today but held it together, awesome header for the goal. Gave Moura MotM though for his banging goal and always looking threatening all over the pitch, on and off the ball.

Motm simply has to be Moura by a mile... first to a loose ball time after time... Must have been the most fouled player on the pitch - often drawing key fouls when we were under some heavy pressure.

And that goal. Wow. Absolutely sublime. He smashed it a good fraction of a second before the keeper expected it. Hardly any back lift and such power.

The fact that he was such an ostracised player under Poch just shows what a poor judge of a player he and his team really were. Good riddance.
He gave the ball away an insane amount of times including losing it to start the counter for their goal.

That was wide and way up the pitch. That's not giving up the ball for a goal scoring opportunity. Wolves had everything to do including rifling it from outside the box!... and not sure what game you were watching anyway. We had huge problems in possession in general. Anyway, If he does give the ball away its usually receiving a hospital pass or taking responsible risks to go forward, not crabbing the ball sideways

Gazza 8
Aurier 6 - offered little offensively, and was not great defensively.
Sanchez 6 - terrible mistakes in possession partially made up for by lots of headers and blocks in our area. But was a little bit of a liability today and gave them several chances through basic mistakes. Foyth must be close to getting a chance.
Toby - 8.5 - solid today. Won a lot of headers and led the back line.
Verts - 8 - handled their big danger fairly well and popped up with the winner.
Dier - 8 - very good today. Won a lot, passed better, and fouled cleverly.
Sissoko - 6.5 - spent most of his game covering for Aurier and offered little in terms of dictating play.
Dele - 7 - one great piece of skill to set up Dier 1st half, but got lost 2nd half.
Moura - 8 - put a real shift in, won headers, got fouled (a lot) and scored a fantastic goal.
Son - 6 - didn’t really help out Jan defensively, and didn’t really fire going forwards.
Kane - 7.5 - first half he linked play brilliantly.

Jose - 8 - we won but I felt we could have changed things earlier, maybe Foyth on for Aurier or Sanchez, and Sess on for Son or an extra CM on for Dele. That said, we won a tough away game. And we also fielded the same team for consecutive league games for the first time since 2017!

This is a lie. Traore terrorised him time after time.

Traoré can terrorise anyone in a foot race. Verts limited him to going on the outside and we cleared everyone one of his crosses. Apart from the goal ... where Verts had to be ready for the race and others were slow to close him down. Verts would have got a 7 if not for his winning goal which boosted him to an 8. Compared to Aurier and Sanchez Verts looked like Beckenbauer in possession. Overall I thought Verts played very well, despite being done for pace and with little help / protection from Son.

I thought dier was clear mom he commanded like a general out there and seemed to be everywhere.

I thought we did great as a team, although Jan was terrified of traore. Aurier tried to push high up a the start but soon got pegged back but did well in both roles.

I am normally critical of Sissoko but today he did well and we needed the energy, if we don't have the ball then he is more useful and we needed the physicality.

I thought it was a fascinating game you could hardly stop for a breath. Wolves were great but didn't create too much, high intensity game and a fantastic result.

Tough game against a very good well drilled team. We defended really well. Despite all the possession they had they didn’t create many goal scoring chances. We made life more difficult for ourselves with poor decision making on the ball and really poor passing - Dele was especially guilty of this. A really good win which will do team confidence a world of good going into the Christmas period. A whole week for JM to work with them on the trading field before we face Chelsea next week.
Going into the new year Chelsea is the only top 8 team from last year we have to play away. A good Christmas run and we are set up nicely for the second half of the season.
I gave MOM to Dier who after some woeful performances was very good today and really unlucky not to score.

Eh but he gave the ball away for their goal. Nitpicking I know but he did.

He did, but I also thought he handle him well at times too, he always tried to show him onto his left and he blocked just as many crosses that got past him, I do think he should have been closer to him for the goal.

Wolves are a very good team, they fought hard and played well for the whole 90 mins

Pressured and pressed us from the front and gave us no time on the ball

They battled hard in midfield and closed down our attacks very effectively

Not many teams have and not many teams will when there this season, for good reason

As for us

We were largely second best all other the pitch, but we never stopped fighting and we worked as a team (showed a level of desire that has been missing for the best part of a year under Poch unfortunately)

Sanchez and Aurier again looked like liabilities, but both worked hard

Vertonghen had a near impossible task trying to contain the fast and powerful Adama (but he still did great and of course got the winner)

I think MOM has to be given to Dier, a man who has come in for a lot of (justified) criticism of late. Today he was the difference between us staying competitive in the match and being completely over run (imo)

You could argue we need to upgrade on him, but currently he's the only member of the squad who can perform the role he does functionally

Great goal by Lucas too (who was also the hardest worker in our front line off the ball) , Gazza did well in goal

All in all it was a great, hard fought away victory against a tough tough team. Not a vintage performance but we saw some fighting spirit that has been sorely lacking for sometime

Beat Chelsea next week and we will have closed the gap on them, COYS

We were left chasing shadows in our own half for much of the game. Credit to the team for keeping their heads and taking the late chance to get the points.

But this game was like the Brighton game without the scoreline. I'm worried we're on the brink of taking a hiding off someone, similar to the Bayern game as we're just allowing teams to boss us too easy.

Maybe a few additions in January along with a resolution to the contract situations might settle the waters around the dressing room, but sure just need to wait and see.
