Have to give it to Dier who edges a courageous Moura with Gazza not far behind. Grateful for the fighting team performance. We are slowly getting our mojo back!

The main thing for me is that in his post match press conference Jose highlighted the problems I saw, so I have confidence he will seek to address them

I’ve seen Dier play better. But the signs of improvement are heartening. I was beginning to think it’s chronic for him. He’s been cack for 18months. His mobility and sharpness were both better and he was Johnny in the spot at times today.
Traore terrorised Jan a fair bit today, but Toby and Dier supported him well. Once he’d gone past Jan they were there to clean up. Good team work, had the look of Mourinho about it.
Moura as others have mentioned, worked hard, won headers, kept their defense on the back foot and scored a cracker of a goal. He looked fast and direct.
I gave motm to Gazz, for a couple of great saves at times when Wolves were pushing and were game changing moments.
Wolves are good, they have been for a couple of years, they moved the ball well and are killing it in Europe and had only lost twice before this match. I liked what we did though, we won ugly, with some of our less in form players stepping it up to contend for man of the match.

Anyone that thinks we played badly doesn’t understand football. We had a game plan and executed it. They had 2 serious efforts on goal. We could have had 4 easily. Defended superbly Dier Moura Kane Stand outs for me.

Dier. I hope he can put in a few more good performances like this in the coming games, he'll be a great addition.

If you can't see we played badly then you don't understand football. Just because we defended well doesn't mean we played well. Defensively Dier was really good, but when he had to do something with the ball he was terrible.

Surprised so many went with Dier.

Jenas was tearing into him on MoTD just now, too.

I normally agree with Jenas, and it's not I completely disagreed with him tonight, but he was overly harsh I felt.

You could argue we created better chances than Wolves.

You can see by the analysis from Jenas that Dier is just not good enough. You can’t be a top side and have two CMs who can’t turn and pass forward. So negative, so poor in possession.

Dier may have been better defensively today but on the ball he is woeful. Still, he’s a stop gap we all know that.

He did, but I also thought he handle him well at times too, he always tried to show him onto his left and he blocked just as many crosses that got past him, I do think he should have been closer to him for the goal.
Did you see where Traore's goal came from? How can you blame Jan?

AGREED!!! Defensively he was very good, but with the ball junk.

I thought he gave him too much space which let him get it onto his right foot, take another look at the goal, he backed off when he should have got closer and forced him wider onto his left

1. Losing possession after 1 or 2 passes
2. Poor control of the ball
3. 2nd to every fuckin ball
4. Totally overrun in midfield

If that is your version of not playing badly or a well-executed game plan, then i think its you who doesnt understand football, mate

We had the second lowest pass completion rate in the PL so far this season today. Some people find it really difficult to separate performances and results. In the same way at the beginning of last season when we were playing rubbish for months on end but still scraping wins, people didn't realise the wheels were coming off under Poch because we were still picking up results.

Anyway I thought today we defended like a top team and were much more solid and well organised, our midfield and attack let us down in possession though.

Jenas hit the nail on the head, shows why we struggle in so many games, particularly away. Whilst our midfielders may put in a lot of effort, their lack of technical skill and comfort on the ball makes it very hard to get any rhythm, especially when pressed which is more often the case away. A good midfield player is one that makes other players better, think of a Modric or Fabregas as prime examples. Always happy to receive the ball on the half turn in tight spaces and have the quality and confidence to trust themselves.

The amount of games where we have played where I think no one showed up or would score above a 5 or 6 is mainly down to this. I feel sorry for the likes of Sanchez & Aurier as they need the players to show for them and create the angle. We make things look so bloody hard. Dier and Sissoko are not terrible players but they are a terrible partnership, despite today’s result. I hope Ndombele is the answer, we have seen glimpses of what he can offer and once fit and up to speed he can make everyone look better.

Nice to see us dig in and show some spirit and tenacity. This Wolves side will take points off the big boys thru the season. Had misgivings about the Dier / Sissoko pairing but they stood up well today. Mourinho, having now had a look, has downgraded 'jog trot recovery' Rose, slipping in Vert who given his due, came thru a torrid ordeal against Traore. He has rejuvenated both Moura and Dele in the process. A price we paid yesterday was Son having to track back more than we would like. I'd like Dele to do his share but clearly Mourinho believes that he is better on the front foot getting beyond Kane. Starting to warm to Mourinho...initially felt he was like that boyfriend of your daughter you were wary of. However, he is doing and saying the right things and we look refocused and competitive

Dier was my MOM because he did what we was supposed to do and he did it flawlessly for the whole game. This was his best game in months. For me, Jenas take is more about system than individuals. Playing Dier & Sissoko against Wolves meant they will play more back passes than usual.

Winks is coming back from injury, so Jose seems to have picked Dier & Sissoko and asked the team to be conservative tactically and it worked. Inspite of numerous attacks from Wolves, we had the best chances in game.

Ideally, I would like to play Dier/Sissoko & Winks/Ndombele for the rest of season

Jenas:

“I want to see them get the ball and pass forward. Turn on the ball, pass forward.

Is that so you can see what it looks like, having never done it yourself, Jermaine?

He has a point, but yesterday Dier’s job was purely ball winning and defence protecting, which he did superbly. Partner that version of Dier with a progressive passer and we are looking much better. A fit Ndombele in for Sissoko yesterday and our midfield dynamic improves massively.
