Real Madrid are prepared to drop their interest in Spurs playmaker Christian Eriksen as Zinedine Zidane has made it clear that the only midfielder he wants to sign is Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.

I question Eriksens dedication to us, should his dream move to anyone willing to pay more money fail to materialize.

He strikes me as some one that needs a new challenge (more money) every few years and, until he gets that, his output drops off.

I like the guy, he's done some great stuff. But I also think if his heads not in it and he's not 100% dedicated to us, we should actively look to move him on (abroad) and use the money elsewhere.

He’s already said that he has a career plan. That’s great for him. But if he has his sights set higher than us then he should make sure his form reaches those heights too. Otherwise he’ll burn his bridges and find he’s not as sought after elsewhere as he’d imagined. He is a great player, but is he in the elite?

As I said previously...he's declared his intentions and I don't want anyone putting on a Spurs shirt next season with that attitude. Thanks for everything....there's the door. Nobody is bigger than the club and for him to say he'll stay if he has to I find insulting.

And can we afford to have a player in our ranks who wants to be elsewhere?
One who is known for being a little half arsed at times.

Not as far as Europe's elite is concerned, and he showed it in the latter part of the season. He had the odd flash, but other than that, was pretty average I'd say.
If he wants that big money move, he needs to show more... with us.

Eriksen is a good player, but if he's looking elsewhere, then with 1-yr left on his deal, we ought to sell him for as much as we can. Real Madrid would not have been the only club to look at him, so another suitor for his signature won't be too much of an issue.

It will interesting to see how much Man Utd will quote Real Madrid for Pogba because, with Raiola as his agent, I imagine he'd be on a very lucrative & long term deal. Eriksen on the other hand would much cheaper for them.

Seems very likely to me that he doesn't want to go anywhere other than RM. What Eriksen needs is someone brething down his neck in a Spurs shirt instead of being a guaranteed starter regardless of form. He also needs an occasional rest to keep him fresh. We can't make him go to another team if he doesn't want to, much as it might seem the preferred option.

If you went to your boss and said you weren't happy, needed a fresh challenge and would try and move somewhere else ...but if it didn't work out you were willing to stay but would need a pay rise what would his reaction be ?
Bearing in mind that for the past few months you hadn't been exactly pulling your weight at the job....exactly...."There's the door"

We got another year of fully-committed play from Luka Modric after his non-move to Chelsea broke down. I think Eriksen has a similar attitude: if he stays, he'll want to work hard and win.

It would also give us a year to develop and integrate the kind of replacement we are likely to be getting: either a player with no experience of English football, or an up-and-coming player from the Championship.

I entirely disagree with the notion that Eriksen lets his effort slip when he's out of form. If he isn't playing well, it's because his high-risk, high-reward passes aren't coming off. He still runs more than nearly everyone.

He's also got the rare gift of almost never being injured. It's an underrated trait (see also: Frank Lampard).

we can't allow him to leave on a free though, so even if he stays another year, he has to sign a contract.

If he doesn't sign, he needs to leave.

Was that because he trusted Baldy after the gentlemen's handshake that he would be let go after one more year?

You mean the 'Daniel Levy' version of a gentlemen's agreement where Luka didn't realise Baldy had his fingers crossed.

United have said Pogba is going nowhere and Zidane has said he's the only midfielder RM are interested in....going to be interesting but if Pogba stays then Eriksen must be on ZZ's radar.

I think he simply wants to win major trophies, just like any player with ambition should. Sure we were in the champions league final but that is an anomaly for us.

For me as one of the top players in europe with his skill set he deserves to be paid much more!

Eriksen is an outstanding Spurs player.
If he wants to stay, then great and I'm delighted!
But if he genuinely wants a new challenge and a change of scenery.
We must help him move on.

If true, its one club down and a few to go.
But I'm still not confident he's staying. I don't think he'd make the comments he made, without knowing there was definite interest from clubs, he and his agent were interested in going to.
