Well that's not really true now is it?

We were horrendous from about January but up to the defeat v Wolves at Wembley, we were keeping pace with Liverpool and City.
What was weird was how it all went downhill from the wolves game so fast. Leading up to that we’d scored about 20 in 4 games (purely from memory here)

Put Kane and Son in that Redknapp squad ( maybe even just Kane actually ) and we’d have come very close to winning the league.

Midfield far superior to our current one and better than Poch’s too ( even though Wanyama/Dembele partnership was superb).

Better CB’s too, even though King was breaking by that point, Gallas best years behind him and Woodgate’s fitness issues.

Corluka was also an underrated RB imo, despite having the movement of a canal boat.

That Redknapp team was the last great entertaining team we had, but it had some first team flaws and the squad was weak. It all went pear shaped when Lennon got injured and we had no natural right sided replacement. Redknapp changed the formation, tried VDV out there, Bale out there etc. which robbed from another first team position and made us a bit of a mess.

The back line was poor too. I agree with you on Corluka, he was an excellent football supporting full back, but it was mainly Walker that year. So we had Walker, Kaboul and Ekotto in that back line which was literally a mistake a game. Redknapp's team had the best midfield by a country mile though. But Adebayor is no Kane, and he had the weakest defence.

Poch had the golden era and unfortunately we didn't win a trophy.

This Mourinho team still needs to find its feet and I do think a lot of Spurs fans are getting carried away. It has a nice balance to it but I think the current team still lacks in midfield, in the right back position and in the centre half position.

Yeah to be fair, maybe my memory is sketchy re the defence and who actually played the majority of times in each particular season.

I do remember Kaboul being superb during a spell in his 2nd stint with us. He became an absolutely dominant CB for a while and I remember thinking he’d be a mainstay for us there for years to come. Then he fucked his knee and his form fell off a cliff.

Literally a mistake a game?
Literally....

LITERALLY? :banghead:

As for Ekotto, best left back we’ve had since Cyril Knowles and hasn’t been bettered since (though I have faith in Sergio).

Yeah I loved Ekotto, although I always considered him a “home” player. He was always good at home and some games he absolutely bossed that left hand side, but I found that often away from home when we were under the kosh he’d throw in a lazy, poor performance.

I think he was guilty of what you say at times yes, but I think they were less frequent than is sometimes made out. Problem is, when he stunk, he really stunk, such as that match v Everton.

I’d say in all Redknapp’s full season he was between good and very good most of the time, with a few magnificent games and a couple of horrible games. Pre Redknapp I thought he was tosh.
