Think people are really being wishful thinking we've somehow paid a lot less than what was reported. Every news outlet at the time reported we'd paid the release few of £26M. That was what valencia announced. There was no mention of add ons by anyone, it was guaranteed £26M.

Then when it became clear he's one of the worst value signings in football history one or two English journos put a story out that he cost a lot less than what those same journos said previously.

Seems pretty obvious to me that was a deliberate leaked story damage limitation exercise by spurs to try and make it look like they didn't just burn millions on a total flop.
On the contrary. I think that only people with a fierce need to really underline how much of a flop he has been cannot accept that maybe we never knew all the details.

Seriously, who gives a shit ? If we paid the full £26m then we took a hit, we arent the first, wont be the last. Could we have spent it better ? WIth hindsight yes, but at the time we bought one of the deadliest forwards in Europe. If we only paid half upfront then happy days - why they hell are people bickering about it ??

Would that go for every transfer ever then?
Naturally.
We can choose which news reporter to trust, we can guess, assume, estimate, and lie.
But as long as Spurs never actually announce details to the public, we must be prepared to not really believe any one sided story, nor disregard alternative versions.

Indeed, what I'm saying is the reports at the time were universally £26M, release fee paid in full. Not one mention of it being a penny less than that.

It was only when Soldado turned out to be one of the most embarrassing transfer failures of all time that rumours came out we didn't pay the full amount from a couple of select English journos. To me that's a pretty obvious damage limitation exercise by Tottenham.

It can be. But we don't know. Maybe it was the opposite? Maybe at that time, they preferred to make report on the full max amount to say "look at all the money we are spending", when in fact it was only half the truth? Generally speaking, it is not uncommon that newspapers report the max amount inc. clauses. I'm not saying that I know you are wrong. I'm only saying that very few people actually know.

Maybe the full cost of the transfer was given rather than just the fee; so £13m transfer fee and £13m in wages (£62,500 per week over four years). Wishful thinking I know, but someone has to.

Oh. @josellizarraga believes that while an agreement between Villarreal and Soldado isn’t an issue, Spurs’ asking price certainly is. #THFC

.@josellizarraga says the 2 clubs are MILES apart in that respect & talks have reached an impasse. The player only wants to join Villarreal.

This goes against what everyone else is saying but @josellizarraga thinks the deal could drag out until deadline day. #THFC

Thought it was just down to the installments?

Ah well, that's a bit of a set back. Ties in with Poch's comments yesterday though - playing the game because still miles apart on fee.

Actually surprised that we aren't playing hardball and bringing Soldado to Munich. We're clearly in for Berahino, but he's played every preseason match for WBA.

It's alright, you can take the tin foil hat off now.

'The two clubs are miles apart on price' - another one for Tottenham transfer window bingo :D

I can just imagine Levy putting together a promo video of Soldado's goal against Everton, filmed from 20 different angles.

"Look at all these goals Bobby scored. He's like a machine. If anything he's probably gone up in value."

I expect him to still be with us after the transfer window. But even more depressed (and thereby shitter) because we've priced him out of a move.

We will then hear the excuse that we couldn't buy another striker because we couldn't agree a deal for him to leave.

This 10 mill+ bid by Villarreal is a load of BS. He'll go to there on loan, they've already decided it amongst themselves and are just stringing us along. Have they ever paid that much for a player? I doubt it. They won't match his 60k wages and Mrs Soldado isn't gonna let her hubby sign for 30K a week, is she? As I said months ago, we're stuck with this useless waste of space for the remainder of his contract.

He hasn't been that bad here at all. The media have blown it out of proportion. Besides, that just makes Robbie even more determined to bang the goals in for his next club! You can't go wrong!

Something like this?
