I might be too optimistic here but doesnt it make sense that club uses one of the most connected journalists to put out an article that they really like him but cant afford him at current price as part of negotiating tactic? Unsettle player with interest - citing specifically Jose loves him while telling the club that the price needs to come down.

That appears to be exactly the ploy.

Daniel is sick of doing all the haggling himself, so using the press now to haggle down transfer fees

Totally agree with this. Tanganga looked solid at RB and could suit Jose's formation we currently play if he wanted to flip the direction and have Reguilion at LWB and Tanganga as the "third/right-back" hybrid position.

Tanganga can then plan to move into the CB line as Toby comes to the end of his deal.
Much prefer this lineup. Believe Reguillon can defend much better than Doherty. Tanganga & Reguillon are much quicker too

Yeah, would also prefer this. Foyth can also play as the RB/RCB when Reguilon or Sessegnon are our LWB.

Anyone notice that they lost to PAOK in their qualifying game and Jan scored an OG :( Dias played alongside him.

I'd be delighted if we could sign him but I think it's unlikely at this stage.

It has been discussed frequently ... as their failure to qualify for the CK is believed to be a reason Levy thinks he can cherry pick two of their best players for bargain fees.

Interesting point. Was Dias on our radar at that point? If he was, it seems odd not to have tried to use Jan as part of the deal.

Jan was out of contract on a free... not sure they'd have considered a swap for Dias, though I'm sure DL tried :sneaky:

I can’t believe Jan scored an own goal so they would have to overcome the loss of CL money by selling us Dias. Spurs through and through that lad.

I work with a Benfica fan who said he is average at best. He wasn't aware Spurs were interested but thinks we could easily do better.

Would prefer to buy Benoit Badiashile, younger, cheaper, and i think just as good, and left footed, just my onion

No excuses for Jose if we get Dias or Skriniar. Both dominant, aggressive defenders who can play the ball off the ground exceptionally. Both would be ideal to partner Sanchez. His pace with one of the others' solidity and class on the ball.

We’re not paying approx £50m for anyone unless we sell Dele.

Which is a shame, because we really badly need an upgrade at CB. Especially with Jose in charge who prioritises having a solid defence over everything.

I don't think we're selling Dele.

If this is true and we're actually looking sign Skriniar or Dias, we'll need to clear out a currently occupied non-HG spot [Foyth has already been dropped from the squad]. If we have buyers, the fees we're quoting for Aurier and Foyth should get us around what we'd need to pay for one of them [my guess is around 40m]. If we sign Milik, we'll need another non-HG spot — and I think Gazzaniga could also be next the chopping block.

The sale of Rose & CCV as well as loans for Sess & Clarke will likely also be additional sources of funding for these acquisitions.
