As it stands we have 28 players in the first team squad, according to the OS. Now two or three of them may be under 21, but if we want any more players in we do need to get rid of quite a few, even if on loan!

ITK has said that Rose, Foyth and CCV will be sold and it's very likely that Sess, Clarke and possibly Whiteman/Austin will be loaned.

Just to clarify, Gards messaged me and said he thinks 3 signings is too much, but 2 for sure.
I'm going to ask the question sorry but by 2 I assume you mean 2 in but not necessarily 2 from Benfica?

Ah, thanks for that. I've been so busy with the business that I haven't been able to keep up with all the info. If they were all to go, as reported, that would certainly leave space for more incomings, finances permitting.

And on that subject, am I alone in thinking that DL pulled a master stroke in loaning a reported £150m from the B of E? We were told that the way the loans for the new stadium were structured meant the interest rates were very low and that it wouldn't affect our transfer budget. Now I know that bloody Covid has meant that all stadia are empty meaning a huge loss in revenue. But TV revenue is still coming in and presumably sponsorship money is coming in as well. Just wondering!

Considering Jose's comments about having too large of a squad & balancing out the squad [2 players in the squad at each position] 4 senior CBs seems to be the goal. Right now, we're at 6 first team CBs — Toby, Sanchez, Dier, Tanganga, CCV, and Foyth.

Even with CCV and Foyth presumably being loaned or sold, it seems counterintuitive to sign another CB unless we offload one of Toby, Sanchez, Dier, or Tanganga — or sell Aurier and play Tanganga at RB.

The high likelihood of Davies now being a squad player and his ability as a viable CB option furthers the point of a fifth CB upsetting the balance of the squad.

At first I thought Gards was saying that we shouldn't stick close to the TV, but seeing the full tweet and origin I understand it to mean the opposite.

I think this might be a quality over quantity situation.

I agree with that, he'd clearly be looking to improve on quality. That's why I'm still expecting that if we do sign Dias, we will be shifting one of Dier, Sanchez, Toby, or Tanganga temporarily or permanently. It aligns with Jose's squad demands and makes sense financially. We don't need 5 specialist senior CBs IMO. The recent Dele situation emphasizes the problems created by inflated squads and the stupidity of the Premier League's 18 player squad rule in the modern game [compare to Serie A's 25].

Beyond the two players for each position, I think the club should be aiming to provide depth with our young, developing academy players [i.e. Malachi Fagan-Walcott].

Avatar changed! Let’s get this up to 500 pages. COYS

I think a good CB would massively improve us Sanchez had so much potential but he's always using his pace to play catch up he doesn't read the game and Toby cant play everygame anymore. SO I REALLY WANT DIAS but I don't want to cheat on Wout…. have Benfica and Wolfsburg played each other recently?

Think this could be the likely scenario. Fact he can cover two position like Davies makes it handy. The only other scenario is if Sanchez were to go.......get the feeling Mourinho maybe isn't his biggest fan but I think he'll hang around this season at least and it'll be Aurier that goes in this window.
If Aurier does go, we bring in another CB leaving us with Toby, New CB (Dias?), Dier and Sanchez with our backup fulbacks also having the capability to play as CB's if needed.
