Dier Winks Lucas Davies all need to be phased out the 11. Good squad players but hopefully with Reguillon and Bale coming in Bergwijn getting fit. Hopefully Dias and the CM herc alludes to that can happen

Get Dias . Move Dier to DM . Move Winks further upfield

So we can play with a 3 CM of Dier - Winks - Celso or Dier - Hojbjerg - Celso or Hojberg -Winks - Celso or Dier - Celso - Tanguy ...the combination would be better then what we have now

I think that would sort out our Midfield 3 and give us various combinations that would be effective

Dier/Hojbjerg as Defensivie Mid
Winks/Sissoko/Hojbjerg as Center Mid
Celson/Tanguy/Winks/Lamela as Attacking Mid

With a front 3 of Kane flank by either 2 of

Sess/Steve/Son/Moura

Would sort out a lot of our problem areas

Dier was originaly a CB Mourinho see's him as a CB and Dier wants to play CB. Mourinho has promised Dier a run of games there. Give him time he's a better CB than DM but it takes time playing CB consistently to see consistent performances. Sanchez is the issue not Dier Sanchez doesn't read the game and is always relying on Pace to get him out of trouble which when the opposition have Pace as well isn't helpful

Agree. With the arrival of Bale and Reguilon, should now mean we see less of Davies and Lucas. Sounds like a CB is a priority so hopefully that gets done and see Dier on the bench. Feel getting a midfielder may be bit of a push this window, but if we do and especially the quarterback type Herc has refereed to, should mean seeing less of Winks in the first team. Would be amazing work for this window if that all happened.

From Alasdair:
Mourinho is a big fan of the highly-rated Ruben Dias, also 23, and will have been monitoring the situation at Benfica after they were knocked out of the Champions League qualifying rounds.

Dias reportedly has an £80million release clause but Tottenham would want to pay far, far less for the Portuguese and could well test the waters if they sense Benfica are looking to balance their books after missing out on the riches of the Champions League. They would not be alone though in wanting the talented centre-back and that would drive up his price.

The non HG issue is definitely coming into play now. I could see some sense in cancelling Gedson's loan in order to bring Dias in. Maybe look to replace Gedson with a HG like David Brookes. No idea where the money is coming from for these deals either but maybe we have some acceptable but not optimal outgoing deals on the table that we could sign off on.

Might be wrong but think we currently have 18 non HG players in our squad (including Gedson) so one over. Expect at least 3 to go out of Aurier, Foyth, Gazzaniga or Gedson's loan maybe being cut short. Would allow to bring in two non HG players. Also think if a decent bid came in for either Sissoko or Lamela, good chance we sell.

If we're looking at players like Dias, Vinicius, Weghorst, Edouard etc we obviously have to make some room somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if one of our senior CBs was on the possible out list if a good enough offer came in too.

Pace is a massive thing, recovery, heading tackling one on ones, on the ball he isn't as good as both Dier and Toby but isn't as bad as people make out. I'm personally more confident with Sanchez at the back. Dier Toby Doherty Davies are very one paced Dier being the quickest
So your saying his heading, tackling, one on ones are all better than Toby & Dier, wow, makes you wonder why he isn't in the team !

All great characters and top pro's with good attitudes to very important squad players but you're right none of them are good enough to be starting in our best XI. Dier could end up being at CB if he keeps improving but right now he's no where near say a peak toby or jan which is the levels we need if we want to be rock solid and win things.

Dias would be a huge signing for the defence if we can make it happen.

Benfica are in a bit of financial bother but like I said before their fans and Jesus would riot if Dias is sold so it would have to be rewarding enough for them to buy another decent CB.

They didn't go to all the trouble to bring in Jorge Jesus just so that they'd sell their best players.

Either Levy stumps up 40m + or he has to get very creative.

Think folk have gotten carried away on the back of the signings over the weekend yet we're still with holes in the squad that plenty have been crying out for, for the last 12 months.

Be good to get a solid link to a striker if I am honest, all too wishy washy right now.

Don’t know whether you’ve seen Mourinho’s post match press conference? I may be reading too much into it, but he didn’t seem exactly thrilled when they asked him about Bale and Reguilon.

Now I’m not suggesting that he didn’t want them ( I don’t believe any manager wouldn’t want Bale), but he intimated that although they are great players they do not solve the weaknesses in the squad you described. And the subtext for me is that if we don’t fill those gaps ( almost certainly CF and CB) he is not going to be satisfied.
