Personally I'm really pleased the club are finding a way to do right by Mason. Always seemed like a really good lad and I'm glad he's getting the opportunity.

Hope on top of that Ryan earned that spot, which I have no doubt that’s the case.
Not getting ahead of myself but will be great to see him as our head coach some day - just take your time and be prepared for that day.

Mason, Bracewell, Powell, Suckling - all previous experience as professional footballers/coaching/managing

Hopefully we will reap the benefits

Did Ryan mason not already have a role at the academy? He certainly did some coaching there under poch whilst doing badges.

It says in the OP:

" Ryan Mason, who steps up from his previous role as Under-19s Coach to become Head of Player Development, Under-17 to Under-23."

Oh a load of people were talking like this was his chance and well done for giving him the opportunity etc but he was already here

Would love to understand the decision making process as to why a more experienced coach like Powell is under someone like Mason?

delighted to have a former youth player now heading the ranks - but one of those coaches is eminently more experienced - as a player and coach...

his previous gig was a bit of a made up one.

the u19s which he was in charge of only play in the uefa youth league and seeing as we didn't make it out of the group meant he was only in charge for six games. i don't think any other club has a separate coach for that age group, normally the u18 coach would take them(seeing as it's mostly u18s anyway) or the head of the academy. even when mason was officially in charge, mcdermott was still there doing most of the instructing.

Powell and Mason are on the same level. Dean Rastrick has replaced McDermott above them. The title of this thread is misleading.

It isn't - McDermott's role has been split between Rastrick and Mason, but Rastrick was already there and Mason technically wasn't in a proper role.
