With De Jong now officially off the table, and Rabiot slowly going off his rocker, our CM targets are slimming down.
For me, I’d be targeting Berge aggressively now. He has the size, the athleticism and technique to be a success I believe. He could slot in as a DM, or box to box CM depending on the needs of the squad. As such combining with Winks in covering Wanyama short term, or Dembele.
He strikes me as one of these players who will head to the Bundesliga, or a club like Southampton, and double in value in a short space of time.
I’d be looking to try and get him in, bring back Onomah, to bolster our CM. Then add in another forward option.
The ITK thread suggested the club don’t want to go all in on Werner because the money has to cover CM too, but with the bigger cost ready made players running out, I’d invest in WF/CF that fits our system, and go with a CM who has potential.

If we can get in Rabiot now, I'd very happily do a buy & loan back deal for Berge to come in this summer.

We really do need both players.

With Rabiot’s contract status meaning he’s a relatively lesser upfront cost, that means there could be room for Berge too. As said, for the summer would have to be done due to HG spots, plus Genk allegedly insisting on that.

Rabiot not happening according to JJ. Expect the rest of us to crash this thread imminently like the ghosts of Saturday night seeking one more shot

This guy just seems ideal - if we can’t financially compete for the big boys that would add to our squad, we need to go back to aiming for young players with a lot of upside.

Much better buy than Rabiot, that's for sure.

Age and talent wise, I'd disagree.
Temperament and Willingness perhaps. Saying that though - Aurier hasn't really caused concerns and seems to be well-liked by the Squad.

I said a better buy, not a better player.

I don't think a fresh start would help in this case. Unless we ban his mom. He sounds like a massive baby.

I think he’s a very good alternative/maybe better option than Rabiot.. He reminds me of Pirlo and Carrick at times, although with more strength and pace, which should mean he adapts well to the Prem and our team in particular.

As I said before, he would be a better buy. Better fit for our squad personwise.

That would mean showing a bit of ambition in the transfer market.

Berge is a DM and Rabiot is a B2B, personally I think we need both types of players. As far as profile goes tho your spot on.

I have no faith in our current DM's (Dier, Wanyama) because of their inconsistency and injury problems. Skipp could be a player for the future, but I feel he's at least 2-3 years away. Berge + 2 more offensive minded CMs would be really nice imo.
