Now the season is over and we can reflect on it at our leisure what does everyone think.
We started the season having reached the CL final and bought in some shiny new talent in Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessignon and, although he hasn't arrived yet, Jack Clarke.
Some twelve games in we parted company with our mercurial coach Mauricio Pochettino and before the door swung shut replaced him with the one and only Jose Mourinho to, fair to say, mixed opinions.
Come the January window we brought in Gedson and Bergwijn so all in all a fair bit of investment although we waved goodbye to our number 23.
What followed I think we'll all agree was a bit of a disaster losing one talisman to injury after another and a place within waving distance of the relegation zone beckoning with every passing match, and then everything changed.
I don't know if any of you are in league with the devil but either way you went too far, covid punched such a great big hole in the season that none of knew if we'd ever finish it, when we finally reopened we'd got our team back and what a difference it made, not pretty maybe but effective and at least we made a European competion albeit halfheartedly.
In the end we finished 6th which I'm willing to bet some of us would have had us down for last August but I doubt many would have done by the shutdown.
So upon reflection a season like no other and not one I'd want to repeat in my lifetime but we've come out of it still punching and ready for the rematch that starts next September.
What do you think? reasons to be cheerful or sweet mysery?

Reasons to be cheerful, absolutely. We were a mess in October, leaking goals left, right and centre.

It was just a downward spiral in the last year with Poch. Brilliant manager but he wasnt prepared to adapt a bit more to fit with the constraints that Levy was demanding obviously. Mourinho clearly is and is well under way with ripping up old foundations and laying new ones.

You win fuck all without a water tight defense. He's sorting this and with a couple of shrewd signings, hopefully, we'll see a better balance next season.

Honestly think we'll win something next season and finish top 4.

But guaranteed the same ones moaning now will still be moaning because they've made their mind up no matter what.

Horrendous season and delighted it is over. Very content with Europa League football next season. The first handful of games with new manager were really fine, the last handful were OK too. I'm content at the moment, and hope we've seen the beginning of some fun times this summer.

The worst in quite some time. Thank god its finally over. A death by a thousand cuts.

that said I’m quietly optimistic about our prospects next season as long as we get a few decent signings in the squad.

Thank fuck that’s over. Dear leader has alot to answer for. Complete fucking screw job against the best team and manager we’ve had in decades. Penny smart, dollar stupid. Bald idiot.

We badly need a top DM, RB and LB. And a CB to replace Toby.

Now it's over, and we've done our best to rescue something from it, I'm not without hope for the future.

At pretty much any stage of the season, though, my view of how it's gone can be pretty much summed up by this...

All things considered, just under par I’d say.

The impact of losing that CL final has been underestimated in my opinion. I feel like there was a massive hangover from that where players realised they reached the pinnacle, a stage they never thought they’d reach and may never reach again and they blew it. Some of the players simply didn’t get over that and we saw that reflected in our performances with Poch.

Jose is slowing healing that and I think we’ve shown glimpses that this could work. If we get a couple of decent full backs this setup could work and I do think he’ll win us something.

Considering our ambitions at the beginning of the season and 3 new relatively expensive signings we have to view the overall season as a disappointment.

No trophy or CL qualification.

Our manager who was so highly rated sacked, who predicted that at the beginning of the season?

So now we have a new manager and another new start.

I am as always hopeful for the future but 2019/20 has to be seen as a disappointment.

We have ended the season with some things to be hopeful about but I think Jose will be expected to hit the ground running. The upcoming transfer window is key and we can’t be making any mistakes. Our first only signings within the last year that have been moderately successful are GLC and Bergwijn. Sessegnon and TND really need to step it up and perform or Jose won’t be patient with them.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Jose can do with a decent pre season and another transfer window.

Overall not a good season at all, but from the mess of when Jose took over with injuries,no confidence ect I think to be in some sort of European competition is good, however let’s hope we’re a lot higher and some silverware next season

It’s been painful, but slightly less painful of late.

The documentary should make for interesting/harrowing viewing.

Not a great season but the fact we pulled through and now have another way back into the CL next season is a positive and a good chance at a trophy. I think we will be among the favourites to win the Europa.

If we go onto win the Europa next season we will look back on this season as an important stepping stone.

However we have been here before, how many times have we been confident we could go and win the Europa with the team we have. I guess the difference now is that we have a manager who has won it the two times he has played in it.

Was very positive heading into this season thought we would do something....we certainly did something but not what I expected. To go through what we did and come out a least with something to aim for next season is a good start. Post lockdown football I have lost my love for it a bit but I am looking forward to seeing what Jose can do with this squad after getting some of his own players in.

Horrible.

Nothing won.
Lower league position than last season
Expensive signings rotting on the bench
Very dour style being played.

This season has been disappointing and it was brutal the way we unraveled. I guess good times don't last forever.

I feel the club is moving in the right direction with the new stadium and the revenue gains that comes with it, but I am pessimistic about where the team is headed in the short term. Where I think we are headed under Jose:

1) We will continue to play the way we do now; sitting back, focusing on the counter/transition. We will get good results against good teams and bad results against weaker teams, because we wont be able to break teams that sit-back down.
2) Kane and Son will be our only double-digit scorers.

The above will not be enough to get us CL, so Kane will leave season after next. Then we will crash and burn, Jose leaves, and we will get a new young-coach and the real re-building starts. I think Mourinho is our stop-gap, similar to Unai Emrey.

From where we were heading and after a CL final to lose Poch and see us scrape EL it was a bad season that nearly was a terrible one. However, I’ve seen many worse seasons so it’s all relative I guess ?
