Half the problem is, and has been with this squad of players for years now, is that too many of them need/want too many touches of the ball. City or any half decent team you watch get out of tight spaces by moving the ball first time around the opposition players bearing down on them. Most of ours just don't want to do that, they take that touch or two and think for that crucial second before moving it and the next man is under pressure then and often played into big trouble. It isn't in their make up and since Poch's time it isn't drilled into them to play one and two touch. When they actually do you fall off your chair.

The real killer is in the final third though. Just second half as an example, twice you have Lamela take many more touches rather than play a simple pass to put Son in on goal. Alli could just slip Son in on his left, instead tries to bundle through three defenders in the box. Alli again could have played Moura or Lamela in through towards goal, instead just takes five more touches and meanders across pitch till its bundled out for a throw. Moura had numerous ones where he didn't make his mind up and fucked up instead of laying it or releasing it. The list could go on....

Someone needs to drill them in the concept of simple football. Pass and move with minimal touches. What's infuriating is we were largely doing it first half, pinballing it about quickly to create counters. Yet players then resort to their bad habits second half.
Agree. But sometimes no amount of drilling can teach a player to do something they are incapable of. This specifically applies to Dele. Sorry, but Jose is being far too lenient with him. He has been a passenger for weeks now. And is more of a detriment than anything else. Everything slows down to a virtual stop when he gets the ball. And then invariably loses the ball. Yes, Lamela can be similar sometimes. But he also can play quickly when he's not tiring.
Dele needs to be sat down if Jose wants to start winning games. I know we don't have many alternatives... But you can't tell me a quasi fit Tanguy or Parrott or even chuffing Skipp for that matter wouldn't be such a liability.

I thought we looked pretty good. When you consider we - yet again - had no recognizable centre forward, holding midfielder, or left-back, we played some nice stuff and could have been out of sight by half time. If we can get Ndombele in the side and sign a striker and a holding midfielder we'll be in a good place (big ifs, I know).

we look a knackered team, they were hungrier for every challenge
Well are we knackered mate surely not a late hangover from the WC I think a lot of it is weak minded player's causing tiredness issues through poor mentality.

Having watched the whole game I am not sure what all the moaning is about . For the first time in ages I thought we looked pretty good and there were really promising signs . Admittedly we probably ran out of steam a bit but to be honest that’s the first time I’ve watched us for quite a bit thinking things are beginning to pick up . First post on here logged on as all the negativity was annoying me . And believe me I’ve been negative for a fair while !
you'll learn, sweet child...you'll learn.

whatever it is we just don't look hungry, don't seem to want to win the ball, too many times players are waiting for the ball

Whatever it is the issue needs resolving asap.

agree totally. I've wrote this season off, and just hope your best mate backs your other mate and we see what happens if they get the full summer break. the way we are performing and injuries we have, I doubt we will have too many of our English boys playing in the Euros, and hope our boys don't play too much in the Copa

Mates? I don't have any mate I'm the most hated **** on SC but as for the rest your probably right after all are they playing well enough to play for England.

Levy (was being sarcastic) and Moaninho you were calling for him when Poch was still manager

the only player that deserves to play for England in the Euro's is Kane, but hoping he doesn't recover, to be honest. can't remember when he actually had a summer off

Fair result.

We really lack fitness.

When we tire that is when we can't get hold of the ball.

Agreed by I can’t understand why Alli, Son, Moura et al are so completely knackered. Legacy of the world cup? But that was two years ago. Ground down by injuries? Poch’s hard training? Who knows?

Frustrating to concede a late equaliser but was always going to be a tricky game. At least we're still in the hat.

Some more positives to take, and some old problems rearing their ugly head again (fitness levels, concentration, wastefulness).

Feel like we are progressing slowly, Jose is starting to figure out the weaknesses in the squad and combinations are starting to form. We're starting to be a bit better defensively and are moving the ball quite well through midfield at times. Problem is not doing it for 90 mins, and not killing games by missing simple chances. If our attackers start delivering more the pace of this recovery will pick up considerably.

Big week for the club. Buy a striker and DM of sufficient quality and we can get back on track IMO.

I never got joy for poch leaving but it was apparent long before that change was needed and Jose was and is the right man, if poch was in charge I think we would be in the bottom 5/6 by now sadly.

I still wonder if he was played way earlier for Poch would things be very different now.. But thing is Poch never considered him ready at all...

He was injured for a lot time Poch was here and then finding match fitness which he still didn’t have until the last few games.
