Campos has apparently asked to be released from his consultancy contract with Lille.

"Campos arrived in Lille in 2017, but he is understood to have grown unhappy with having not been consulted about certain recent strategic decisions that the club has faced in the last two months, including the suspension of the league, contacts between Christophe Galtier and Marseille, the club’s positioning on the transfer market. Similar frustrations were what led to Campos quitting Monaco in 2016. "

Clubs positioning on the transfer market. Yeah, good luck coming here and figuring Levy out :D

Luis Campos would be exciting but also would remind me of Arsenal bringing in the Dortmund guy and that turned out to be a dud.

I'm not sure he was a dud. The problem was Arsenal had too many cooks and Emery had his own picks.

Yeah I think he had all his influence taken away from him when gazidis left and the other people wanted to appoint Edu, which then happened.

If both Levy and Mourinho want Campos and think he’s the right man for the job and Campos knows what he’s walking into then it won’t go the same way.

This has never gone well when the club has tried it before, it must be difficult to carry out your role with the set up the club has.

We've had spells of good sporting directors where recruitment has been good. More often it's been hostile managers rather than hostile boards that have ended them. Redknapp and Poch did not want that level of interference. The reason I'm keen on Campos is because he's worked with Jose before, he's worked on tight budgets and Jose works well with the director of football model.

I'm ok with him coming in, but he will still need to go to levy cap in hand for budget's and approval.
If it's successful then great, but to date it hasn't really worked at spurs for one reason or another, even with managers who had previously worked with DOF at other clubs.

That's because of Levy - pure and simple
For the club to move forward we need Levy to hand over the transfer-duties to a professional. His approach no longer fits the times and circumstances - witness the catastrophic summer of '18...

i think baldini was quite effective when it comes to wrapping up deals. the performance of the players signed was another story though

Campos is currently the best DoF in world football. He knows how to find cheap talent. If you don't want him at the club you're delusional.

i don't profess to know a lot about DoFs at other clubs but i agree with your point - he's extremely highly rated, presumably wanted by Mourinho and perhaps most importantly is someone who has a great track record in operating on a budget. Something which suits the club all round.

Also reckon his cheap £5m signings will move to £10-15m signings with us. Still relatively cheap but better stock

Some perspective here. Campos is not going to walk in here and suddenly change our whole transfer strategy. Campos doesn’t find the talent the scouts do, he is just accountable for taking the scouting recommendations and matching those to the manager’s needs and the club budget.

He also has his personal scouts to do that.

He'll also have been scouting continuously and have a database to consult. He'll not be starting from scratch.

And if coming here has been his plan for a while he'll have been ruminating on what's needed.

We need a director of football it’s proven by our haphazardness approach to every transfer window since Mitchell left us.
Sadly don’t have the faith in Levy that he will go out and get Campos or another Dof

I'm inclined to agree since I think it will prove very difficult to prise Levy's hands off the steering wheel.
