Not going to be knee jerk, even though we were crap. What was Jose on about lazy pressing up front ?

Subtle dig at Kane and Son ?

If so can’t say I disagree. However we know where the power lies in modern football.

So the other managers who got their teams playing well are magicians?
No, but perhaps they didn't have as many international call-ups, didn't have any Covid cases, and didn't inherit a squad in huge decline far from meeting its expectations. Maybe they also just had a bit of luck. In another world, even if Richarlison scores, we go in 2-1 up after the Kane, Dele and Doherty chances and its a very different game. Shit happens. Negativity based on the opening match, especially in these circumstances, is just ludicrous.

We were lazy in our pressing. That is a consequence of bad fitness, bad pre-season. Some players didn't even have a pre-season. Some players had a wrong state of mind. I don't want to speak about it - I'm not sure about it.

Yes Jose and its your responsibility to get the above right.
Whilst I do agree with you, it's his responsibility.

He's got;
- Winks & Sissoko as MAIN midfield options.
- Ndombele who has struggled for form, fitness and a managerial change
- Ndombele who has had hardly any game time this year alone.
- No Lo Celso available - the one player we have who is both creative and scrappy.

Levy needs to take his head out of his arse and stop chasing the Bale dream, go out and get Jose a top quality midfielder.

If Jose had a pick of Lo Celso, Hojbjerg, Ndombele and Grealish and we still played poorly, I'd be in total agreement with his removal. But he hasn't, he's still got dregs that have been ever present in the downfall of the team the last few years.

I wouldn’t be sad to see us sell and replace all three of Winks, Sissoko and Davies before the window closes, tbh.

The reality is, those windows of not signing anyone are still affecting us. Yes we’ve shifted a little bit of dead wood but in reality this shows we’re still a good 6 signings away from being where we need to be.

If we leave it another year to make them, then there’ll be yet more replacements needed.

You’ve got to hope we’re looking to sign at least 4 more now and at least 2 in January if we’re to genuinely challenge for anything at all.
I don't expect levy to spend on one more player let alone 4 more. I think what we have is what we will stay with certainly until January.

I’ve been a defender of Jose to this point but I have absolutely blown my top after watching that! First half wasn’t great, could tell that we were lacking a cm to progress forwards with the ball and the full backs weren’t playing well. Still got in good positions and had good chances saved by Pickford. At half time Jose takes off alli (who although wasn’t great, was occupying a can and finding space that gave son and Kane space as a result). Not only does he take alli off for no reason .... he brings in sissoko on the wing and puts Lucas central?! Lucas was dreadful , touch embarrassing! But he’s so easy to defend and movement is so poor in comparison to dele that it gifted them the game. In addition we bring on a sissoko wide... a guy who doesn’t want the back and has zero creativity ?!
jose lost this game with the system change simple as that... I’m at a loss as he’s meant to be a tactical genius !

I wouldn’t normally react negatively to one game, especially the first of the season. But this is concerning, especially because of Mourinho’s comments after.

All the pundits have written us off this season (not one BBC pundit thinks we’ll make top 4), but I thought we might have gone under the radar and would prove them wrong. Hard to see how we’ll make top 4 after that showing and Mourinho’s comments. We’ve lost at home to a team we’ve been ahead of consistently for a decade who are trying to compete with us. And our manager has come out after complaining it’s because we’ve had a rubbish preseason, blaming our lack of fitness on a lack of time and preparation. If we can’t cope with the circumstances as well as our competitors then what hope do we have?

I can’t figure out if we should take comfort from the congested fixture list ahead of us or should be more concerned because in our manager’s own words we’re not prepared nor fit enough.

When Jose took over midseason he suggested change would be slow as he didn’t have time to work with the players and out the systems he wanted in place. We then had the season half and a mini preseason, but still no signs of change. We’ve now had another (albeit shortened) preseason, and still no signs of change.
If there was a hint of a system, some structure, some style of play being built from the ground up, not necessarily a finished package, but even the merest hint of some grass roots emerging of some form of DNA being put into the team, it’s be half way easier to stomach, than this current aimless, styleless, clueless abomination of a team we have to watch.
Yeah some will think it’s an overreaction on the first game of the season, but it’s the lack of change of direction since last November I’m judging it on. The players look flat and the football is no better.
I like Jose but I see what Arteta has done at Arsenal and it's a big difference. I'm hoping 2-3 more signings will do the trick. Maybe there's too much loyalty to players from 5 years ago, it's all gone stale. Everton showed that a few big signings can totally life the team. If we got Bale and maybe another striker I think we would be lifted. As it has been for last few years the signings have been average or for the future. Ndombele did more than winks today in 2 minutes (had a bad 5 minutes) but at least he looked forward

Levy's job hopefully isn't to choose the players. It's to run the club and ensure the money's there. Whoever actually is in charge of transfers spunked a huge amount of that money on the likes of Sanchez, Ndombele, Clarke and Sessegnon who have been abject failures for the price paid.

Had friends round so completely missed match apart from notifications popping up on phone. Somehow not nearly as bothered as usual by this result. We're not a good team at all and I didn't expect much. Not gonna invest emotionally this year as we're clearly gonna do nothing. ST holder and glad I missed this one.

It's all feeling so strange when we as fans, feels like the team is scoring (or is going to have a scoring chance), when the OPPONENT has a corner or free kick in our half.

We take our new rep of counter attacking side way too extreme.

On top of all the others from the past year. You want to pretty much entirely replace the squad which reached the UCL final. It's ridiculous. We've made more than enough transfers. But much of the money has been spent unwisely.

100m plus there, hard to disagree it's not been well used.

The negativity isn't just based on the opening match though. All signs since last season point to us going back to mid-table shit in a billion pound stadium. Embarrassing.

Spurs fans deserve better, been mosty shit since the 1980s despite massive support. Redknapp and Poch made us believe again, Mourinho has brought it back to shit.

Hyperbole - "exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally"

Most people saying the team is shit, Jose is shit, Levy is shit, after one game? Or wait, should I be taking these statements literally... again, after one game?
Its anger directed at the team, manager etc over not just one game but many stemming from last season, a point you happen not to want to realise. When in your opinion is criticism warranted? How bad does it have to get before one is allowed to voice a negative opinion?

Davies Moura Sissoko Winks ?

All four should have been sold this summer
I think we need to sell sissoko, winks, lamela for whatever the money other team gives us and improve the team .... Sissoko, winks, lamela, davies, moura are so so so limited playerz it's beyond imagination ....

3/4 of our squad needs to be sold. Unfortunately ,it can't be done all at once so we're going to have to suck it up for the next couple of seasons. Jose was mad taking this job.

But you have to take responsibility of your own performance, regardless of who’s sittting upstairs and then demand more from your peers If they aren’t providing the level i oh f commitment you are. The movement up front was .. well rubbish . Disgraceful really .

I agree with you. Passing responsibility in games is something players lacking in confidence, who play with fear or who don't like their manager do constantly. We have a lot of players passing responsibility right now.

Everyone else seems very happy to abuse our entire team and management for one bad half after a bizarre pre season
I certainly wasn't partaking in abusing, I just want to know what it is that the management are doing or are trying to do; because at the moment I can't see any management at all. I don't intend to mean that in a derogatory way - I just hand on heart can't see what it is that the management are doing, or trying to do.
