Yes I’d say it was a fairly boring watch because Liverpool couldn’t get through our set up so just proceeded to pass it side to side around their back 4 and we waited to pounce but didn’t have much of the ball so not many moments to enjoy or get excited about especially in the first half.
As I said I was completely 100% happy with the approach and the plan but compared to say early poch high press days or even peak redknapp days with Lennon bale modric VDV yes this was a boring approach.

im sure many others would agree and quite a few neutrals have said the same, but again I DO NOT have a problem at all with that setup against what right now is a vastly superior team especially considering our injuries I think we did fantastically well, but it was hardly blockbuster edge of the seat stuff.
Sorry I don’t agree. We went toe to toe with them in the second half and it definitely was edge of the seat stuff, certainly where I was. I don’t care what ‘neutrals’ think either.

Spot on mate , thought players apart from Eriksen gave everything against the world's number one team .
According to the stats we had 14 shots at goal with just the 4 on target , compare that to Leicester against Liverpool a few weeks ago , 3 shots at goal, zero on target.
We set up to allow them possession and try to use the pace of Lucas & Sonny to hit them on the break.
Could have been so different at the end either Sonny or Giovanni should have at least hit the target .
Right about the fans as well never seen so many applaud the team after a defeat.
And It's not just Sky you should avoid also avoid listening to the comments on Talksport , whoever the pundit was after the game complaining that we didn't push our full backs very far forward, obviously whoever he has completely oblivious to fact that Alexander-Arnold & Robertson have 18 assists between them this season the highest of any full back pairing in the league , now I wonder why Jose instructed Serge and Danny not to be to cavalier in going forward.
I’m lucky that I’m at most games so I don’t have to listen to the absolute shit that is spouted. ‘Stats, modern game, VAR, more stats, money, more stats, blah blah blah’. If I do have the misfortune of watching on tv I turn the sound down and skip the rest. To be honest I hate the game as a whole now, I see myself as a Spurs fan and nothing else. I don’t even watch international football anymore.

Liverpool have overtaken us so badly in the last few seasons it’s embarrassing.

I’m from Belfast so maybe only make It over to 2 to 3 games a season, but surely it is getting time for a proper revolt against ENIC.

I cannot understand how they can invest so much in club infrastructure yet when it comes to the playing squad, they have absolutely no desire to improve or challenge for honours.

I don’t understand how you can build the best stadium and training facilities on the planet. But then let the actual playing squad grow old and stagnate. Totally fucking bizarre. It’s obviously just all about the property prices for DL and JL

It’s been 20 odd years now of ENIC neglect.

If they don’t want to properly compete then they should fuck off.

I love our club, always have done and always will, but as I mentioned, I don’t get to many games so can’t vote with my feet. But I’ll certainly think twice about buying my 3 kids and 2 nephews any more spurs kit until I see some proper money invested in the squad.
20 years of neglect eh?
What were you saying when we were above Liverpool, Arsenal, United, Chelsea? Get a fucking grip, you're a grown man.

Anyone who was at the game today what was the atmosphere like? It sounded quite loud at points, was there a general frustration with the defensive way we set up or were most of the fans very much behind the team and the plan?

I think as I’ve posted earlier that the way we played today was extremely promising and we almost had to set up that way with all the injuries we have etc against the best team in the world right now, I think if we can get Jose 4-6 top signings we can do a good re-build here but I am a little concerned that the match going fans won’t put up with that style of football even though it may well be the way to finally win us a trophy again.
I was at the game in by and large it was very good atmosphere. I would say 99% of the crowd have had enough of Eriksen and he was given a lot of stick when he was subbed (ironic cheers etc)
General feeling is Alli is not doing enough and that is starting to sound louder and louder
Regarding performance I would say everyone left upbeat.
tactically there was a plan from the off which is something that now brings. For better finishing it would have worked a treat and that’s why he wins things, he doesnt just go into every game in the same way.
It’s very clear the players are low on confidence and performances will improve as that improves but very simply - if we replaced 3/4 of those starters today with players who had the same want and passion as tanganga we would be in a very different place

Think Gazza made 2 saves? Otherwise Firmino nailed Liverpool only chance really. Second half thought we deserved a draw.. Lo Celso and sonny both missing absolute sitters! How Robertson didn’t get sent off is ridiculous! We didn’t even get a free kick for the challenge hahaha Liverpool first half there shape was absolutely unreal we instantly played better when Eriksen came off and dele came deeper and actually got on the ball and helped winks. Tanganga kept Mane quiet then when he went LB did a good job on Salah. Best we’ve defended in months. Lot of positives tbh

Great post, sums up how I felt.

Better finishing we could have come away with a point.

People need to understand where we are as a side right now and accept that going toe to toe with Lpool yesterday for 90 mins wouldhave been suicide.

Completely agree with this - best atmosphere I’ve experienced this season TBH.

Comes down to investment to improve the squad. To be fair L'Pool have put out serious money to improve in the areas they needed to such as the GK & CB etc., but they brought in young players from the academy as well.

They used Coutinho money very, very well, where as we the Bale money on the whole was poorly invested.

Couldn't go, but it was obvious to me from watching on TV that when they lost the ball they streamed back surrounding attacking our player with the ball, especially if they had used it quickly enough. Where as when we lost the ball only a few were prepared to run back & to many of them were looking around wondering what to do next. In particular it was noticeable with Aurier, Eriksen & Dele.

Champions League finalists Liverpool and Tottenham now worlds apart

Blimey, that CL final really is becoming a stick to beat us with.
Anyone who'd actually watched us between January and June would know that us and Liverpool were worlds apart in June.

Poch ignored Tanganga after really good performances in pre season. When he started this game he looked really confident and he played fantastic without straining ,you could see he is comfortable with anything and whoever he is facing. How Poch missed that opportunity is beyond me.
Sanchez who I really thought at times over the past season looked nervous, tentative and out of position (at times) was fantastic in this one.He owned it.He played well last week too. Maybe he will carry one like this.Looks in control now
Lo Celso will fit in nicely right in Eriksens position, put Ndombele behind him and a good DM behind him and its a great group. I don’t think Winks has a bad game actually he had a good game but limited to me. He isn’t a DM and he isn’t a creative force either. Somewhere in between.
Liverpool are so good. Firmino is a tremendous player and so is Van Dyke. They play so tight in defence and so expanding in attack and their medium range passing is superb.
Never mind VAR. We were lucky to have come out this close in the score but even with that I disagree with Timmys view that we should have been more expanding in attack in the first half.Im more with Mourinhos tactics where we nearly bought the tie etc.
We still contained them and if we would have sent more players up we would for sure have got killed. If we had Kane I would say yes we could have done that but as it was it was better to do what Mourinho did.
Dele by the way was absolute garbage.
Some bright spots in the team though

I'll deny that.
They are at their absolute peak and I cant see them improving much more...as you'd expect with a manager who's been in his job for 5 years.

Atmosphere was good. Best it had been for a while. The nobs in front of me in the south stand we’re back though (they’ve haven’t bothered coming for a while thankfully). They turned up shitfaced, moaned all first half and then left shortly after half time.

On the whole, I think the majority around me realised what was happening though and that the players did try hard (although I thought there were quite a few occasions where they didn’t have each others backs).
There are always a few nobs, I sit south stand as well and agree lately have been quite a few very negative fans but glad to hear the majority were on board with the plan.

Glad to hear as I want fans to be on board with the Jose plan and way of playing so if you liked it then that’s great mate

I was yelling at the TV everytime Dele got the ball and gave up possession (which was a lot) but as I’ve had time to reflect I really think players weren’t offering him anything when he had the ball. In the last few minutes he had the ball and held his hands out asking where everyone was and then had to beat 3 players to keep the ball. Did anyone else think this as well or am I being too kind to Dele?
too kind, he only dribbles as he can't play with his head up and spot a simple pass.
