that was and should never have been a penalty. on performance, United deserved a point but not like that. if your going to give a penalty for that the game would be free kick after free kick every game

If you can't get on the pitch when there are five subs allowed and every player on the pitch is blowing out of their arse, it's time to accept reality. The coach doesn't want you.
If he's not putting effort in, no coach is gonna want that. Who knows how he's been training, has he been applying himself or not? There is not gonna have been much trust built up based on the performances and effort that I've seen. He needs to earn the trust.

The 3-0 we won 2-1?

Lost for words though that some are fine with the performance.

2 out of 5 subs in a game nothing worked in 2nd half. Throw in Sess for Son, Tanguy for Kane and Skipp for Winks. Fresh legs, but tbh... the way we set up nothing would have really happened.

Shit yeah I was thinking of the 3-0 the season before with the Lamela third goal. Point still stands though I suppose

De Gea made a nice save on Son's header. Can't think of another.
We had 3. The average shots on target per team in a game is 4.5. So we had a bit lower than average. The average goal per shot on target rate is around ever 2 to 3 shots. Our average this season is 4.4 shots on target per game, which puts us 8th in the league. So 3 shots on target is pretty normal. Man utd have an average of 5.7 SOT a game, they got 5 in this game so also were below average.

But Shots on target can be a useful stat, but it's not always that useful, because style of play matters a lot. If you play on the counter you tend to get less shots on target but you often create better chances. Sheffield Utd is bottom of the league with 3.2 shots on target a game, while wolves is 12th with 4.1. Arsenal is 14th with 3.8 (again, not counter attack but they seem to focus on creating 'good chances' over many chances).

So 3 shots on target is actually pretty normal, particularly if trying to hold onto a lead like we were. It is worth noting that many of Man utd's chances were also comfortable catches. In terms of good chances, I would say Man utd had 3 (including pen) and we had 2.

I think what the match did confirm is that it is very unlikely we will be making a run to 5th place.

Mind you Man Utd didn’t look all that. They’ll definitely drop some points in the next few games. If we get it down to a couple of points with 4 games left, it’ll be interesting.

All things considered it's not the worst result. We needed a win, but an individual error cost us. I still think we need to do more to gain some control of the midfield, but if we had possession we would've played into UTD's hands with their counter attack.

What’s there? Genuine question. Every time I’ve seen him the best he can manage is to control a pass, and make a safe pass that slows things down. He doesn’t play killer passes, run past his man, cross the ball particularly well, look comfortable in possession, get in dangerous positions or offer any physical threat, and he’s only about 20 months younger than Bergwijn.

If he played for the opposition, I’d be reasonable happy to see him on the pitch

I definitely see physical threat. Has that Sissoko-like ability to push the ball through his opponent. He does beat his man, he just does it in a clumsy way but he does it.

When he has the ball he drives with it, constantly pushing forward.

He’s in great positions a lot of the time, there’s a game intelligence there, reads the game very well. This is one of the attributes that makes me think he’ll blossom.

He puts in a shift defensively.

Passing is good, not phenomenal, but he can link play from what I can discern.

Lots to be excited by in my opinion.

Even that is deceptive, as all of the goals came within 6 minutes of each other towards the end of the game. They actually dominated possession that game, but didn't create an awful lot, while we panicked them with a high press. That was peak Poch, before people learnt how to contain us and when we were a young team able to run all day!

Ndombele is an attacking player. He offers nothing in defence.
Yes, but he is not an 'outlet' either. Lo Celso offers similar things going forward, while being very good defensively too. Ndombele has a lot of ability. But at the moment he can only be used well in very particular situations. They didn't appear today.

Another one missed from not going the extra mile - Bruno Fernandes.
Could have been Jose's Frank Lampard. Can shoot, pass, create, get into good spaces.
Or you could have Winks who erm erm erm...

They looked a better team than us, and have done since the Jan Transfer Window, they have a much easier run of games coming up (in next 5 we both play Bournemouth and Sheff Utd), but they have Brighton, Villa and Southampton, compared to us having Everton and 2 London Derbies (West Ham and Arsenal)

We are 16-1 to finish Top 4, or 6-1 to qualify for Champs League IF City's appeal is upheld, that sums up our chances, very minimal.

Let’s be fair, Jose has had to plug holes in one of the most unbalanced teams we’ve had in the last 10 years. I’m amazed he got that defence and midfield to actually almost work as a cohesive unit. It would have been suicide pushing further up the pitch with this current team. United’s pace would have got round the back, Aurier Would have been constantly out of position, Sissoko would have to cover and our midfield would have been completely overrun. I think the rest of this season we’re going to be Like this. Keep the defence tight and hoping our talented attackers can create something. Let’s just be hard to beat again for the rest of this season and see what happens.

He is a midfielder stop being on the windup. You know exactly what Jose was saying and he is 100% correct.

You can actually make changes in midfield to improve the attack too. Even by changing full backs.
God what would i do for prime dembele who wins and transports the ball 30m on his own.

I'd imagine Jose would like that too but he doesnt have it.

I think some of the comments on this thread tonight have been way over the top, anyone reading them would have thought we'd been beaten 4-0 at home, and were awful in defence.
I think a bit of context and perspective is needed.
That was the first game back after 3 months and I didn't see the shambolic defending that I was seeing before lockdown with errors all over the place.

Granted Kane was well off the pace, but FFS that was his first game back after 6 months out. What did we really expect ?
United were not there for the taking and had an extremely strong line up and bench.

Not our best performance but by no means our worst. We battled well and drew against a team who will probably win most of their remaining games.
To an extent I agree, but if you take the last 10 or so games in to account we have been awful. I was hoping for a bit of positivity tonight but unfortunately our manager wants to stop other teams from playing football rather letting our team play. It’s painful to watch. Good or bad - we’ve always had an identity- sadly we don’t seem to have one anymore

I thought fernades was a wasted substitute. Kane should of been taken off in the last 20 minutes and son pushed up. I dont think Mourinho gets spurs. I hope i am wrong.

I Dont know why this text is underlined.
