Match: Carabao Cup - Round 3

When: Wednesday 26th September 2018

Where: MK Stadium

Kick Off: 8:00pm

Team Form; Spurs WLLLW The Hornets WWWLD (All Competitions)

We switch our attention to the Carabao Cup (CC) this Wednesday when we host fellow top tier side Watford. We last won what was then known as the League Cup back in the 2007/08 season and made it to the round of 16 last season, losing to London rivals West Ham. After defeat in our first taste of cup football in the Champions League this season, we will enter the 3rd Round with high aspirations.

We face a Watford side that has started the season well under Javi Gracia and we have already been beaten 2-1 in the league by them. The Spaniard's side dispatched Championship side Reading 2-0 away from home in the previous round.

It has been a rough start for our campaign, however in recent weeks we have been seen back on form, contributing to a solid start to the EPL season. We sit 5th behind rivals Liverpool, City and Chelsea, having won four of our six matches so far. Our two defeats came in the form of a 2-1 loss away to Watford and 2-1 loss at home to Liverpool. However in our last match we beat Brighton 2-1 at the Amex.

This match will give both sides the opportunity to give some fringe players the chance to earn some first team minutes. Poch is likely to rest a host of our current first team regulars in the hope of keeping them fresh as possible to avoid unnecessary knocks. For example Argentinian Juan Foyth is in line for his first start of the season. The 20 year old has found his opportunities limited but the CC could prove to be beneficial. The likes of Dele and Sissoko could be in line for starts as they look to regain match fitness after injury, with Son likely to start up front. Paulo Gazzaniga could be in line for playing with alongside fellow Argentine Foyth for the first time, and also youngsters Winks, Amos and Nkoudou. This line up is of course an educated guess.

Wouldn't mind winning the League Cup if I'm honest. Or any football match. Or even Eriksen winning a 50/50 will do me.

Reckon we'll lose on pens.

Let's go for it. United are out, either Liverpool or Chelsea will be out, and Arsenal are yet to play either. We need a trophy this season and this is at least as good a chance as any. COYS.

A win for us I reckon, Watford won't be trying too hard.

Will feel detached playing at home in MK. Come on you Northern Spurs !

We aren't good enough to win the league. We aren't good enough to win the Champions League. Recent history shows we collapse when we get into sniffing distance of the FA Cup.

So, to me, it makes sense to go all out in our most winnable competition, get the "Don't win trophies/bottle jobs" monkey off our backs in February so we can go into the last part of the season and whichever competitions we're still competing in with less pressure.

I think we should rest Kane and Verts, among others. Sanchez, Wanyama, Foyth, Winks and Son need game time

Would like to see some kids given some exposure too

I'm sure some will consider this too conservative and it's a 'great chance to win a trophy', but we have bigger fish to fry IMO

Watford will be in for this 100%. Especially after beating us once already.

I can easily see this going to 90 minutes and then us losing on penalties. Its the kind of annoying thing that would happen to us, but at least if it does we might have a chance in the shootout without Lloris in goal.

They do have quite a big squad of players so might rest most of their team. But with Man Utd going out and with one of liverpool or chelsea going out, clubs that are unlikely to get relegated in the PL should be going full strength to win this competiton because its a great source of silverware.

I mean midtable teams like Watford, Everton, Leicester, Bournemouth, Palace and Arsenal.

What bigger fish would they be though? We’re not gonna win the league or champions league. I personally think the very most we could hope for this season is top 4 and one of the domestic cups.

We won't be frying any big fish this season...

Hopefully Poch is cottoning on that only focusing on the hollywood trophies isn't exactly panning out for us, so tries to actually win some fooking silverware this season.

If it's good enough for Man City, it's good enough for us. Go and win it please.

Yeah - I think that's right. But importantly, our best players need to be fresh for the top 4 fight. Kane should be rested tonight, no doubt about it

But City have a much deeper squad - that doesn't follow.

Top 4 is going to be very hard this season, we can't risk players who already look tired

What follows, is that we can't afford to be arrogant enough to assume any trophy is beneath us, and make a serious attempt at it.

This has to be a viable trophy for us to win the league is a no go so why not win this after all it's a trophy and they all count.

It's not that it's beneath us, but do you remember when Kane first injured his ankle? As I recall (I might be wrong) an FA Cup tie against someone sh*t where he shouldn't have been risked.

I'm not saying we should put out a scratch side, but Harry shouldn't play tonight
