Love Dawson as a bloke, but he is an idiot Of he doesn't take the move. Decent, progressive club, near his birthplace and family, will play every week and be a massive influence on the club over a few years. He won't start for us regularly next season I believe and should make the decision to drop a level in the prem. Sad but true.

Great captain ....his heart, desire to get stuck, his passion for the club can't be questioned.
However sadly ...if we are to progress,we need better....his postitiong / reading of the game isn't the best and he is slow on the turn.....makes him a weak link.
Yes hes a good player and would be happy to have him as a squad player, but I do believe if we are to move on,then he needs replacing or be happy on the bench. ( can't see him wanting to do that ).

I wonder if this is a case of us not being completely honest with him RE his first team chances, him not accepting defeat, or us thinking he's someone needed in this moment of transition...

AVB was completely honest with Dawson; he told him he did not have a future at White Hart Lane but Daws refused to leave and won back his place; AVB then allegedly had his catastrophic falling out with Adebayor after the latter questioned his assertion that Daws was our best defender.

Harry did not give Dawson a chance until every other centreback at the club was injured; he ended up making him captain.

Dawson is not going to be forced out unless the deal is right for him; and if he stays he is confident of winning his place back - with good reason.

I thought these days, testimonial profits were given to charity.
If Daws has termination payments due on his contract, then he has more than earned them, if we are booting him out.

Alternatively perhaps Bruce needs to dig a bit deeper and make sure the signing fee more than compensates for any loss.

Well he was right last time we tried to get rid of him
so perhaps he will be proved right again.
Perhaps Poch wants a bit of loyalty, spirit stability and people
happy to be squad players.
I want it myself too.

I'd keep him personally.
I agree. We will have plenty of those early Europa League games for Daws. to play in while the likes of Vertonghen can rest and stay healthy for Prem. games.
Even some Prem. games - where there could be a lot of high balls played in on our defence - he could start as well.
Plus of course his influence in the changing-room.

Couldn't he sign for the Tigers and yet come back for his testimonial, say towards the end of the season?

All he did was prove how right AVB was, playing a starring role in some catastrophic defending last season.

In fairness to Dawson, he was competing with many others for the leading role.

I think Dawson is a good defender, nothing more and nothing less. But I would like to think we are purchasing two better centre backs and a left back otherwise I don't see how we can possibly break into the top four.

I would keep him around though, especially with our other centre backs injury records.

I think we have different definitions of "good".
