I don't mean to kill the excitement, but we have bought quite a lot of players who havn't actually strengthened our team or really impressed the last 7 years. Llorente, Clinton, Soldado, Paulinho, Chadli, Janssen, Dempsey etc. The list goes on. We all know the success stories: Eriksen, Alli, Son, Dier, Verth, Toby etc. But, don't forget getting young players like this guy is kind of gambling. Eresdivision.. Not like the best leagues in Europe. To compare it with two leagues in Europe I know quite well, PL and norwegian Eliteserien, I think the level of Eresdivision is closer to the level of the norwegian league (but off course a lot more rapid and with higher intensity and more brilliant technique though). But, don't be to excited and expect too much. That's my advice. This might turn out to be great and maybe our greatest signing in years (lets hope), but he might also turn out to be a big flop.. It's really hard to tell IMO.

So like EVERY other transfer ever. :)

The hamstring issues don't appear to be major.

Missed a few weeks in Nov

No evidence of any last season

A footnote to this is that he appears to have played a major role in our CL run last season, setting up PSV's goal v Inter in the San Siro :)

Sorry if it’s already been done to death but I’m hearing both by commentators. Is it pronounced Berg-Wine or Berg-Vine?
You can be sure of one thing, that commentators won't take the trouble to find out the correct pronunciation. They never do, as they assume that they know, and they're too lazy to find out. How difficult is it to ask?

Delighted with this, feels like a proper Spurs signing. We love a tricky winger at this club. The main thing I notice from the vids on youtube is that he looks really confident on the ball. Clearly believes in his own ability. Constantly showing for the ball and has unbelieveable pace. I've wanted this team to get quicker and I'd argue that Son, Lucas, Bergwijn give us some serious speed. Lo Celso isn't slow either.

On a side note (nowhere else to post it) Sheff Utd are in advanced talks to sign Sander Berge for only 25m euros! Surely we've gotta get involved at that price having previously been linked. Could be one of those deals that we hadn't considered doing but is too good to pass up. He'd fill a gaping hole in our side.

Berge would probably be a decent signing but, it would likely take him a while to get up to speed in which case a fair chunk of this season could be missed. We might well have ideas about DM for the summer of much higher quality than Berge in which case it makes sense to wait. I think he's a very decent player but we may have our sights set much higher and have to be patient.

I’ve gone with Berg-Wine based on Wijnaldum at Liverpool.

Chadli was a success, and huge for Pochettino’s first phase. Loved watching him in 14/15, but for whatever reason Pochettino went cold on him. And he came from Erevedsie to the premier league, much like Vorm, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Dembele, and Eriksen, all of whom have been successes at varying levels in this league.

Janssen is the only flop we’ve signed who made his name in Holland, that league produced very PL compatible players on the whole. The big fuckers tend to have more technique than most leagues big fuckers due to the emphasis on skill in all Dutch academies, and the skilful little shits tend to be more robust physically than most leagues little shits due to having to survive amongst a land of giants growing up playing football.

I’d say it’s between France and Holland for which nation has provided the highest success rate for players moving to the England. I imagine that similarish cultures and clates help. Germany too to a lesser extent.

Please guys... don’t spend next few hours filling this thread with terrible songs for him or asking how to pronounce his name. I beg you

Agreed, I have a good feeling about this one. Bergwijn has all the attributes needed to succeed over here. He is rapid but well built and looks to have good technique (as expected with a dutch international), with top level stats in dribbling and creativity. The only real weakness appears to be a low goal return but that can improve with experience and confidence. Sterling was guilty of this until the last couple of seasons but has come on greatly in that regard.

Agreed on Chadli, I think he just lacked that extra yard or two of pace to really shine over here. What I'd also say about Chadli is that his career since shows that technically good players can be a useful cog in a good team, even if they don't have the ability to carry poor teams on their own. I'm more confident about Bergwijn over a Nkoudou or Njie as he looks a much more refined player.

Let's go back to comparing him to players based on the 6 minute youtube videos we watched. I'll start, reminds me of Akinfenwa but possibly stronger.
