I strongly disagree, but without knowing who our CM targets are it's hard to say definitely.

But say we brought in a Seri, or an N'Dombele, or even a Kovacic. Do you really think they're not as capable as Onomah given that they've actually played at, and done well at, central midfield at a senior level in a high standard league?
I think if we can get a genuinely top quality central midfielder then we should. The likes of Kovacic and N'Dombele are highly rated.

But if we can't get these level players then I'm happy for us to stick with what we have. Dembele, Dier, Wanyama, Winks and Onomah is a pretty decent set of midfielders.

All three pose as big a risk as Onomah in my mind to be honest. We know that it can take players a long time to adjust to the PL, and some never do. Onomah has as much potential as most players we could pick up in my opinion.

Naturally there are always risks with signings.

If we bought Schneiderlein this summer I wouldn't be happy. In the short-term he might be better than Onomah but to slow a young player's development for a player who isn't special then we shouldn't do it.

But if N'Dombele, Fekir and Kovacic are as good as people believe and we can get one then we absolutely should. No guarantee of success but that alone can't mean no transfer activity.

New stadium, new era. We need to make a statement of intent. It's Ossie and Villa time; something that will capture the imagination. With Kane doing his thing, it's got be a midfielder / attacking player of some kind. A player that's proven world class. A player that can turn draws into wins. I reckon Ronaldo fits the bill and would certainly ruffle a few feathers. Come in for a season or two like Klinsmann. The media would lap it up.

Sorry mate, but I completely disagree with you on that one. All three of those guys have already proved themselves at a high level actually playing CM. Onomah hasn't. There is not a chance that they'e as big a risk as relying on Onomah.

I do agree with @dontcallme though. IMO the days where we make N'Jie/N'Koudou/Stambouli etc level signings should be gone. It should be class or nothing from now, and allow what we already have/youth players to make up the squad. I'd much rather Onomah than a player like that at that level, just like I would have much rathered us give Edwards a chance than persist with N'Koudou who clearly was never going to make it.

Agree wholeheartedly with the second paragraph, but no established player, particularly when coming from abroad is free from risk. It's at least as big a risk as bringing through a youth player.

I'd personally like us to go and rescue Jack Butland from Stoke. We all love Hugo but at some point we need to think about his replacement, so it may not be this summer but at some stage I feel like Butland would be the way to go.

Beyond that I would like us to try again for Mateo Kovacic from Madrid. Malcom from Bordeaux and Sessegnon from Fulham.

Seeing as keepers stay at peak longer than outfield players then we're gonna get at least 3/4 more years from Hugo playing at the top level IMO, also once he leaves we need to find a keeper who is exceptional at playing out from the back and being composed with his feet and Butland isnt great at it.

I don’t think Butland is good enough with his feet for way we want to play under Poch. If we replace Hugo one day we’ve got to find someone with Neuer and Ederson levels of confidence and feet to play it out.

He would be signed buy clubs with bigger wallet than us, if he decides to leave.
He's reputation is not the same when we almost bought him. Man U, Man C, Bayern would be all over it

It's bs though. That article is taking the rumour from a tv show called El Chiringuito that is a freak show. Full of bizarre theories every show

I think we're at the point now that we have the raw talent and ability in the squad to get into the top 4 regularly; our squad certainly doesn't look out of place with our rivals' squads. It's important to highlight this, because it's the first time ever that I can remember this being the case.

In terms of winning the whole thing, I think we need another 'Kane' style super-star in the side. Even then it'll be tough, especially when City and Man Utd are happy to throw money around like it's laundered.

Completely agree with the first paragraph. For a few years we finished 5th while Arsenal got 4th. Our hope was nicking 4th partly on the back of Arsenal’s extra games in the CL.

Now we are a genuine match for the teams in the top 4.

If we get a Kane style superstar I believe it will be through one of our younger players developing into that rather than being ready made and bought.

I would argue that eriksen is more vital to our team than kane. Sure kane scores a fucking lot of goals (I'd have him second) but without eriksen we look so dreadful at times. Need to find that midfielder who can pick out a great pass but also control the tempo of the match like christian does for us so often. Lamela and dele are creative but they don't have the passing range of eriksen that allows him to play deeper.

Is Kovacic marketable enough? He's a great player, but if we are to splash serious cash on a player, it's gotta be someone who will provide off-the-pitch benefits as well. Problem is, I can't find any CMs who would bring that. In AM, we have been linked with Pulisic or Bale, but our AM spots are getting crowded, and either of them would be very expensive.

Yeah agree with you on that one, unless the investment that Herc has regularly spoken about is truly stellar

Still think Kane is overall more important, but that's not to understate CE's crucial contribution

I agree that we 100% need a proper back-up for him

I would've said Pulisic, as I have before, but people on here tend to get a bit weird and start saying that we're not good enough to sign him. Equally we've now signed Lucas and I suppose that could have an impact considering they both play RW. Has Pulisic played more centrally this season?

Hear what ppl are saying re. Butland. Hadn't considered his ability with his feet but equally I'm not sure I look at Hugo and think that he's that great with his feet either. I mean it wasn't that long ago that we were having real issues with his kicking. Hugo is an outstanding shot stopper but I fear that more and more errors are creeping into his game. Some have pointed out that he could've done better with Salah's 2nd goal on Sunday. If he'd stood up then he might have saved it. Anyway, don't wanna start ripping him or anything as he's a top keeper. He's just not getting any younger is all.
