I would've said Pulisic, as I have before, but people on here tend to get a bit weird and start saying that we're not good enough to sign him. Equally we've now signed Lucas and I suppose that could have an impact considering they both play RW. Has Pulisic played more centrally this season?

Hear what ppl are saying re. Butland. Hadn't considered his ability with his feet but equally I'm not sure I look at Hugo and think that he's that great with his feet either. I mean it wasn't that long ago that we were having real issues with his kicking. Hugo is an outstanding shot stopper but I fear that more and more errors are creeping into his game. Some have pointed out that he could've done better with Salah's 2nd goal on Sunday. If he'd stood up then he might have saved it. Anyway, don't wanna start ripping him or anything as he's a top keeper. He's just not getting any younger is all.
Pulisic generally plays across the front but tends to play left and shift inside or central if someone more wingery comes on. Similarly to how Eriksen sets up for us when Son is not on the pitch.

I think with Hugo oddly enough the last few games his kicking has been better as his shot stopping and positioning has been more erratic. Weird. Ultimately it will be hard to find someone who can do both well and I think investing a lot of time in making a youth player who can would be important.

Is Kovacic marketable enough? He's a great player, but if we are to splash serious cash on a player, it's gotta be someone who will provide off-the-pitch benefits as well. Problem is, I can't find any CMs who would bring that. In AM, we have been linked with Pulisic or Bale, but our AM spots are getting crowded, and either of them would be very expensive.

Sorry but I disagree.
I would expect that from someone at the club, but not from a supporter.
I coudn't care less what off pitch benefits a player brings. I want the best player we can get. Off pitch profits should have no say in our choice as supporters

on the other hand, off pitch profits will flow if the player performs well on the pitch

Seeing as keepers stay at peak longer than outfield players then we're gonna get at least 3/4 more years from Hugo playing at the top level IMO, also once he leaves we need to find a keeper who is exceptional at playing out from the back and being composed with his feet and Butland isnt great at it.

This is what people don't understand. As much as Lloris can look shaky with his distribution the stats back him up as being one of the best. It's more that what he gets asked to do is play perceived risky passes which give the team greater benefits in possession.

There are probably only 4-5 keeper in the world who are as strong with their distribution as they are with their shot stopping and they are already at top teams - DeGea, Neuer, Stegen etc...

So many issues, so little time.

Would you rather talk about how terrible Villa and Bruce are, or Harry Kane's spell on the subs bench on loan at then Championship side Leicester?

You know how I feel about integration and specifically Onomah (eg: I think he’s got huge potential and would like to have seen Poch give him time in CM etc) and I like very much your idea of getting him back and playing him, but I think it’s highly unlikely this is going to happen, as Poch is as risk averse as anyone when it comes to playing inexperienced players.

Pritchard had the best loan of anyone ever and still couldn’t get a single minute, and this was pre CL and pre Alli and Son blossoming days.

So I cannot see anything that’s happened this season convincing Poch to start playing Onomah as a CM.

On that basis, and to be honest, even if Onomah is in Poch’s plans, I’d still want us to sign a quality option because I don’t think we can count on Dembele or Dier going forward for differing reasons. (Mostly Dembele’s fitness and Dier’s lack of ability as a CM for anything other than bus park games)

I’d like to see us go into next season with Wanyama, Winks, Onomah, New Guy or W,W and two New Guys if Onomah isn’t part of Poch’s plans.

Are we just taking Dier and Dembele out the back and putting them down? Both will be here next year and play significant minutes in CM.

Even Pochettino has said he sees Dier’s future as a CB.

He can’t keep watching games like Sunday and thinking Dier’s good enough going forward surely and Dembele has had maybe one season without missing loads of games with chronic injury and it’s not getting better. We’ve just hit February and he’s only just played two decent consecutive games for the first time.

A lot of what might happen next year with the centermidfield position depends on weather or not Dembele can be relied upon at all. IMO Dembele can still be relied upon to give use quality performances once a week or so if managed properly. Then we should also consider that Alli and Eriksen have the ability to play in the pivot and may increasingly do so as we add quality depth to our attacking midfielders. That'd be giving us roughly Dembele, Winks, Eriksen,Alli,Wanyama,Dier all with the ability to play in cm.

Does that give us enough cover to take a chance and integrate Onomah, I would say so and I hope poch would agree. Though I have my doubts.

This would give Onomah one season to show he belongs, if he can't then it would be time to move on.

We need three signings + any replacements for possible exits of players such as toby or danny (i don't think either will leave personally)

Winger (who can also cover up top for Harry)
Dream: Bailey
Realistic: Richarlison

Creative competition for Eriksen (who can also play across the three behind H)
Dream: Malcom
Realistic: Malcom/Amiri

First team ready CM to come in and replace Dembele
Dream: NDombele/De Jong
Realistic: Doucoure/Kondogbia

Any of these players and I'll be very happy. Would also like Sessegnon but I have the feeling that we've missed that chance. Shame.

Doucoure played well. That's what Poch was hoping the way Sissoko would play for us, driving through the centre of the pitch and grabbing the game by the scruff etc

Fuck knows why he would have thought that.

Just want to add that I'd like to see KWP, Onomah and Edwards get a proper chance next season. I think Sterling could do a decent job as a second striker too.

Why would Nainggolan be available in the summer? Still has a while left on his contract and the last I heard on the matter he was talking about how perfect his life is in Rome and that would sign a lifetime contract if he could because he just loves living there so much. Unless he's completely fallen out with the hierarchy at Roma in the meantime, I can't see why he'd suddenly be up for a transfer when he's turned down everyone whose ever come in for him.
Don't know much about the situation at all. It was just recently on either the "On The Continent" podcast or the "Totally Football Show" podcast they brought up him moving and he constantly gets linked for a move.

Weird. I'll have to have a listen. My understanding of the situation up to now has been that he's had lots of offers in the past from big clubs but turned them down because he and his family are so settled in Rome (I think his missus is from Rome as well if I'm not mistaken). He's made comments in the past about how perfect his life there is and that he'd never want to leave. Like I say though, maybe that's changed recently. I suppose we've all seen relationships go sour if there a fallout with the manager etc. so maybe you're right.

Longtime lurker, infrequent poster...which means thankfully there is a rather undeveloped record of my transfer endorsements. However, today I admit that somehow all those 10 minute YouTube compilations of non-Prem footballers have not only taken EDM-induced years off of my life, but have not given me the keenest eye for talent.

All to say...I have settled on a new approach for (perhaps slightly less) mindlessly picking who I desperately want to join Spurs: reading what people who actually know about football have to say about players rather than watching highlight videos. This leads me to conclude that the guy I most want is Frenkie de Jong. I have been reading more and more about him, and while it is rare to see former teammates/coaches/etc. slating a player, I think it is also rare to see such unequivocal praise for a 20 year old. Everything opinion I read, including from some of the former greats of the game, think this guy has the natural talent to be a LEGEND. Not just good. In terms of attributes, he is constantly described as adventurous, having an innate sense of the game, and honestly hard to coach because he is so damn good (in this vein he reminds me of Dele and some of the debates that have been had on here about coaching him out of bad habits versus not wanting to restrain his natural, make something out of nothing talent...whatever side you come down on, a great problem to have imo).

Anyway, I'll shut up now but here is just one most recent example: http://www.espn.com/soccer/dutch-er...ajax-sensation-who-is-better-than-beckenbauer

Looking at zippy, deep lying playmakers, I’ve been really impressed with Lewis Cook at Bournemouth. Young fella, big potential, good leader on the pitch too! Similar I know to Winks though, thoughts?

If people moan that Winks is nothing but a nice tidy player, then I'd like to see how they'd describe Lewis. He'll be a very good player, but not creative enough, for what we need imo.

Was trying to approach the summer by thinking about squad structure and personnel going into the window.
Am assuming that Sissoko, Janssen and GKN will be sold.

My default system in thinking of squad structure is the
4-2-3-1 system. We should have two for each spot and 3 keepers.
GK: Hugo, Gaz and either Vorm or Pau (on a free)
LB: Davies and Rose (if Danny kicks up a fuss it is a question of using all of the Man U money to get Sessegnon or perhaps Tierney)
CB: Two starters and two back ups are: Toby, Verts, Sanchez and Juan
The 2CM are taken from Dembele, Wanyama, Winks and Dier
The attacking 3 requires a total of 6 players and here there is a space: Alli, Son, Eriksen, Lamela, Lucas + ONE more
At Striker (1) we have Kane and Fernando as his back up (don't think Nano gets replaced because there aren't many who can come in to that role and not play....if he does leave it would not surprise if we use Son there OR bring in a player adapt at the striker and one of the attacking 3 positions.

SO for squad structure purposes, using a 4-2-3-1 we have two solid starters for every position (with Dier and Wanyama adding defensive cover) apart from a missing back up attacker. With 3 keepers this gives us 22 + 1 to be brought in.

I would use all the Sissoko, Janssen and GKN money (+ sale of some fringe youth) to make a play for Pulisic.
Gives us another big option in the attacking group. OR perhaps Sessegnon, recognizing he also provides LB cover.

That is a very strong 23. Granted there is little change from this season but with, hopefully fewer injuries and the new additions of Lucas and either Pulisic/ Sessegnon, that is a strong squad.

The final, tough, decision is which youth players can seriously challenge this core (where we have solid starters two deep, for every position): Discussions need to be had with Josh O, Edwards, KWP, CCV and maybe TOB. Skipp et al are not ready yet.
If 1-2 of these top youth are willing to be part of the squad, that is a terrific group of 25.
