With the tournament wrapping up today here's a thread to nominate your player and team of the tournament.

Mbappe by some distance for player of the tournament,

Biggest joke/flop has to be Neymar - this was supposed to be his defining moment and he’s turned himself into a laughing stock.

Team of tournament is a toughie as not many individual players have stood out but I’d go for:

—————Lloris—————
-Maguire-Alderweireld-Godin
Trippier——————-Marcelo
————Kanté—Modric———
—De Bruyne———Mbappe—
—————-Cavani————-

Biggest joke is Neymar, but he didn't really flop. Sterling is the biggest flop imo, considering the stats he had from the season and the amount of chances he got. Turd.

Player of the tournament is either Kante or Modric, depending on who has the best game/wins today. Mbappe just falls short for me, he has blown a bit too hot and cold but he's certainly in the team.

It's set up as a 3-4-1-2 but as always with teams like this compromises have been made.

Lloris
Toby-Varane-Godin
Trippier-Kante-Modric-Coutinho
De Bruyne
Mbappe-Cavani

Just falling short are the likes of Pickford, Vrsaljko, Pavard, Hazard, Lukaku, Golovin, Cheryshev and I'm sure I could name a few more.

I think it tells everything about Kane's tournament that he will surely win the Golden Boot but with all the goodwill in the world I still can't put him in the team.

I can't be arsed to arrange a team but the players that have stood out for me have been

Pickford
Pogba
Modric

There have been others who have done very well, obviously, some who have scaled the heights big time, but too infrequently, one or two good games isn't enough, otherwise Kane would win it just for winning the Golden Boot or Mbappe for his explosive display against Argentina. For me, the three I've named have been pretty consistent throughout and if I had to put them in order Modric comes out the winner, I've enjoyed watching him every single time he's played.

I can't believe the love Maguire gets. He's been ok, but he has a tendancy to turn off at vital moments and I recall him giving the ball away a few times with misplaced, easy passes. I could be being super critical because of all the gushing on the commentary, especially from keone.
I also hope we get a new keeper before the Euro's. I can't put my finger on it but Pickford worries me.
Hope to be proven wrong on both players.

Lloris
Trippier Godin Varane Hernandez (were very few good left backs this tournament)
Modric Kante
Mbappe Coutinho Hazard
Lukaku

I've got to admit that I'm totally biased with my selection, but I'm also hampered by the fact that I haven't seen many complete games due to timings and poor TV reception.

My team is very similar to @aliyid team...

—————Pickford—————
-Maguire-Alderweireld-Godin
Trippier——————-Marcelo
————Kanté—Modric———
—De Bruyne———Hazard—
—————-Mbappe————-

Pogba, Pavard, and a few others probably deserve to be in the side, but I just haven't seen enough of them.

As for player of the tournament no-ones impressed me more than Trippier. He's been fantastic going forward, pretty solid at the back, he scored an amazing free kick and he stepped up to take a penalty. Other than him I'd probably go for Modric. We all know he's a genius with his passing and control of the game and he's added goals in this tournament as well.

Hazard has been easily the best player this tournament. Only Modric and Kante get close.

Not sure how you can put Lukaku in there?

Imo he gets more stick than he deserves at times. I think he has had a good WC overall. But the more I think about the more I feel that I should have picked Cavani instead.

Lloris
Trippier Varane Godin Hernandez
Kante
Modric Coutinho
Hazard ........................… Neymar
Kane
A few unlucky to miss out. There were tons of good midfielders and wider players to choose from. Kane wasn't great but I don't think there's been a great striker this tournament. Same for LB. Despite being a **** Neymar was the most creative player in the tournament before he was knocked out.

Don't think there was a standout player. Kante or Modric will probably win it if they play well today and their team wins.

I agree about Maguire but not about Pickford, I think he's been outstanding and he really won me over this tournament.

Really pleased for Trippier. Here's hoping he can continue the fine displays and ride that crest of a wave through upcoming season and beyond.

Ride that feck baby...ride it.

I'd take Mbappe, Modric and Kante ahead of Hazard. So, I guess I would not say Hazard has "easily" been the best player...

I'd also take Lloris over Pickford - but still think Pickford has had a great tournament.

Mbappe has had two good games and Hazard has been the best player on the pitch every single time he’s stepped on it. Aside from the France game - in which Mbappe didn’t impress either.

Modric maybe, but there’s no chance anybody else has been on Hazard’s level. Mbappe is a great player but his World Cup is being overrated, because he’s the next bright hope of football.

All imo of course. I’d be tempted to go for Schmeichel as best keeper but he won’t be nominated because Denmark didn’t go far enough.

Sure, but Mbappe plays on a much better team - its harder to stand out. I'd say Kante has been the most consistently good player for France, but plays in a position where his contributions often go overlooked. Mbappe has been explosively good - even when sharing the attack with Griezmann and Giroud. And, Modric has been the best player whenever Croatia have played, and he got his team to the finals.

Golden Ball votes should be interesting, but I would think the winner will come from France or Croatia.

Yeah, I think Best keeper is down to the final 4 keepers - and I'd give the edge to Lloris.

1. Lloris
2. Pickford
3. Subasic
4. Courtois
