Exactly you’d argue. It wouldn’t be a given over say Son. The same with walker. When he left many were unsure if he was better than Trippier. If you’re now saying he’s a shoe in why would that be? Has he actually improved under pep?
I didn't mention Walker?!

Hard to call the formation and even the players. What is nice is that we have not lost to them in the last four league encounters so that must give us some confidence. Poch sets himself up to be the best and Pep is regarded as the best 'young' coach so I think Poch has an extra incentive there ... plus the historical rivalry between the Spanish clubs they came from

yep...it'll be effectively 4 with Lamela and Eriksen dropping in as well.....and Dembele is worth 2 men ;)

...agree Dembele is a beast, but Trippier and Dele would get absolutely killed down our right in the proposed "6-0 slaughter" formation...I did like Eriksen dropping back to make a MF 3 against Brighton...

As we've lost 3 of our most important defenders, we can only park the bus and hope to nick them by a sucker punch. Poch will devise a plan and outwit Pep.

I'd be very tempted to go long to llorente , don't think we can out do them with possession but then nor should we just sit deep and try and counter them because they'll get through us.

its a tough one, should be a fascinating game tactically

I would much rather attack with the hopes of surprising them and wilting some of their confidence verse sit back and let them run at us all game. The front foot and be as it may or die by a thousand cuts? I would rather be aggressive. But I am also not a class manager.

What did the Ukrainian team do?

-----------------------------------------------------Lloris
Sissoko---Winks---Aurier---Trippier---Dier---Vertonghen---Davies---Rose---Dembele
-----------------------------------------------------Kane

Backs-to-the-wall phalanx defensive formation. Kept Kane in there for the counter attacks ;)

Personally I think will need to drop back to protect the 10 behind him!

People saying Poch would do this and that with peps finances. Fact is whatever we paid for our players and they paid, our squad was valued only just behind them. Are their players really that much better than ours? Our defence pisses on theirs and for me only silva and de Bruyne walk into our team and that’s just on current form, you probably wouldn’t have even said that last season. Sterling was pretty much a laughing stock till this season. If you swapped managers could Poch have that city squad 18 pts ahead of us it’s very debatable imo. Not sure what the gap was last season about 7 pts I think. So that’s a 26 pts swing from last season and the only players playing regularly are Walker and Ederson from last season. You can’t credited those 2 with a 26 pt swing. It can only be down to improvements coming from the manager. I’m not denying their financial muscle but I still believe pep deserves credit. No pep couldn’t do what dyche is doing at Burnley but could dyche do what pep is doing at city I very much doubt it.

Jesus and Sane are now settled in the league and on absolute fire. Two world class players in the making. They bedded in last season. That just cannot be ignored. We all know how it’s common practice for those new to the league to take a season to get used to it.
Pep deserves credit, I’m not his biggest fan but he definitely deserves credit for this season so far. They should win the league given their spending and players, but not in the manner they look like doing though.

Could Dyche do what Pep is dong? Maybe not, but that’s because his style is probably a little different. Could Eddie Howe? Quite possibly, yes. The thing with Pep is, we’ll never truly know how good a manager he is. He will be a cherry picker when it comes to jobs, for the rest of his career. The only true indicator could be international football if he chances his arm one day.
He’ll never be comparable to someone like Fergie or Clough imo.

I think pep is a very specific manager. He’s a bit like a Michelin star chef he has to have the best ingredients. But when you give him that,he will produce the best dish. I honestly don’t believe any other manager could produce what we are seeing from city right now. Because I don’t think any other manager is as idealistic as him. He has a perfect formula and when it clicks as in Barcelona it’s spectacular. But it’s a bit all or nothing with him. I think Klopp is trying to do it but is nowhere near. Wenger also has tried but failed. Wengers golden years were with George Graham’s defence. Poch is sort of middle ground he is attacking but will be pragmatic when needed. Jose and conte no comment. Although I do think Poch is becoming more adventurous. I’m not sure we will ever see Dier/wanyama again unless it’s away to PSG.
