Like option B. The key to city is how much they compress the pitch of play. In essence playing in your own half and able to win the ball quickly. So I think the long ball approach to by pass their midfield.

Similar to Real away game. We played with two strikers up front.

We can do this, the more I think about this game, the more I believe we can beat them.

Completely agree. Hitting it into the spaces left by their full backs and having Son, Kane and Llorente to exploit them could be key. Just need to keep their front six quiet then...

To be honest I can't say I mind too much about how we line up because I don't have clue how the best way to combat this City team is.

Does anyone know how Saints lined up against them as from what I'd heard they performed pretty well there.

People saying Poch would do this and that with peps finances. Fact is whatever we paid for our players and they paid, our squad was valued only just behind them. Are their players really that much better than ours? Our defence pisses on theirs and for me only silva and de Bruyne walk into our team and that’s just on current form, you probably wouldn’t have even said that last season. Sterling was pretty much a laughing stock till this season. If you swapped managers could Poch have that city squad 18 pts ahead of us it’s very debatable imo. Not sure what the gap was last season about 7 pts I think. So that’s a 26 pts swing from last season and the only players playing regularly are Walker and Ederson from last season. You can’t credited those 2 with a 26 pt swing. It can only be down to improvements coming from the manager. I’m not denying their financial muscle but I still believe pep deserves credit. No pep couldn’t do what dyche is doing at Burnley but could dyche do what pep is doing at city I very much doubt it.

I would argue that Sane would also get into our team.

We really need Wanyama back don’t we? He’s going to make such a difference to the balance.

Me too! He's back at training with the team so that's good news and who know, he might be on the bench for tomorrows game

Exactly you’d argue. It wouldn’t be a given over say Son. The same with walker. When he left many were unsure if he was better than Trippier. If you’re now saying he’s a shoe in why would that be? Has he actually improved under pep?

I think I would go with

LLORIS

DIER
VERTONGHEN
DAVIES

TRIPPIER
DEMBELE
WINKS
ROSE

ERIKSEN
KANE
SON

It's a really bummer that we have to go into this match without any form of natural defensive midfielder and two of our defensive rocks in Toby and Davinson.

Dele doesn't make it as I think it's important that we have as many players on the pitch who look after the ball as possible and Son is doing that better than him right now and also is a bigger goal threat.

Davies knows how to play in a back three so he gives us the option to revert to 3 at the back switching to 5 when on the back foot. I feel will need this to shut down any gaps that Man City are so adept at playing through.

Overall though I don't think we have a chance in hell of winning. If we had our strongest 11 available then I would definitely fancy us but with so many key defensive players out it's an impossible task imo.

I'm confident. I think we'll sit back and look to hit on the counter.
That wouldnt be the beat of ideas. City has shredded almost every team that has tried to do this. The only times they havent is when KDB hasnt been as sharp but they had Sterling able to blow by his man and win it.

Pep’s teams have usually had trouble against Poch for one reason. Pressing. Have to go back to it for this one. And we have to play Aurier and Rose to track Sterling and Sane. It would be such a poor decision, boardering on a negligent one, to start Trippier and Davies in this one.

I think Poch will play this 11.
Lloris
Trippier, Dier, Vertonghen, Davies
Dembele, Dele
Eriksen, Son, Lamela
Kane

It will be high energy from the off. we know they will have a lot of the ball and we will try to make it as uncomfortable for them as possible. If we sit back and let them come on to us they will win.
