Tough one. We need to cope with the speed of Werner and I fear the worst when he comes over the left side while Serge is somewhere around the middle circle. Think we need Japhet in there to cover.

We wont be keepign a clean sheet WHL so id just go for it.

Jose will definitely keep it tight and then hit them on the counter particularly in the away leg - which makes sense but our defending is urgh

Same but just swap the front line for Alli - Son - Bergwijn.

Alli on the right is an option if he’s instinctive... but he threatens our balance no matter where he plays with his poor decision making and point blank refusal to use his left foot. I really don’t get why he doesn’t use it more as he took his goal very well with his left foot against Watford at home.

The defence is a difficult situation for me, I'd argue today that Alderweireld was at fault for both goals. However I still feel uncomfortable dropping him because of his experience and leadership and I'm looking at Sanchez who was alright today, a few times he got away with not attacking the ball and waiting for it to drop in his favour but didn't do much wrong and then Davies who I thought for a first game back in a long time had a great day. It feels like guesswork trying to pick the ideal back 4. In any event I'd probably line up like this:

Lloris
Aurier Alder Sanchez Tanganga
Winks
Lo Celso Ndombele
Son Dele Bergwijn.

Subs:

Gazza, Davies, Vert, Skipp, Fernandes, Moura, Lamela

I guess I'm using Davies being back after a long time out as an excuse not to risk him twice in such a short amount of time.

Did you not hear Toby's interview? He became a father again this week and had an 8 hour flight which I assume was due to delays yesterday to get back. He said his legs weren't working in the first half...I will cut him some slack for that

No I didn't hear that, as far as excuses go though, that's a pretty decent one

Nagelsmann is the best tactical coach in Bundesliga. Teams are setup so fluidly and pressing is done perfectly.
Beating the press is very difficult against them. We need to play players who are good on the ball, off the ball and be tactically good and disciplined.

This rules out Dier. I wouldnt risk Davies again. Tanganga for me, starts in LB. Lo Celso, Winks to start centrally. Dele has to start as well, with him being the best tactical player we have.

My XI :

Lloris
Aurier, Toby, Sanchez, Tanganga
Lo Celso, Winks ,
Lucas, Dele ,Bergwijn
Son

Ndombele, if he is fit to start , then he starts for me ahead of Lucas.

I just dont see how we can not trip ourselves up in a stupid manner for 2 legs of a cl tie against a team who plays in this manner.
In the past we have often overcome tjis kind of challenge but we often had kane to hit upto and pace to play off of.
Right now our only option is to play the players who are most comfortable on the ball and can retain it well.

--------------------------Hugo--------------------------
Aurier-------Toby-------Sanchez------ Tangy
-----------------Winks------Lo celso---------------
-------------------------Dombele----------------------
--------Lamela---------Son------------Alli----------

Ideally id have alli on the bench for stevie but i cant see jose going with that.

I was gonna say his hair didn't look as immaculate today.
8 hours? where did he have the baby? We have fine hospitals in London, bar whips cross, that's a fucking death trap.

We'll never do that. We'll just bring the chaos and they'll wander what the fucks going on. Mouhrino has designed the perfect counter to tactics.

The team mostly picks itself now, with midfield and maybe one of the attacking roles that’s up for grabs. My thoughts:

- GLC has to start
- Dier must not play
- Id like Ndombele to get some minutes, maybe as a sub. Have realised that the chance of a start is basically zero
- Berwijn must start
- Tanganga should play

Outside of that, most others are obviously first team regulars now

I’m not sure Toby has it in him to play Leipzig and Chelsea so I’d rest him. Protect Jan’s lack of pace by sandwiching him between Tanganga and Davinson. Rest Dele for Chelsea and play Bergwijn centrally.
