We seemed to change from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3 about midway through the first half last night.

Given Pool's quality, I'd be tempted to drop Alli and put Dier in, even though it's a bit harsh on Dele.

Dier DM with Sissoko and Ndombele CM, with Tanguy having a bit more freedom to get forward when needed and try to find the incisive counter attack passes for Son, Kane and Lamela.

You have to admit it's quite a funny dilemma, the one time a formation change might have been debatable was vs Liv after United showed a good way to deal with them but it would be so risky for Poch to change after landing on a winning formula.
It only worked well in the 1st half though

After HT Klopp pushed Hender and AOC forward and Pool gained numerical advantage again

Tbh my personal opinion is that we'd be better off telling the players we back them to play their game and stick with the formation that worked rather than adjust to pander to livs tactics.

I think Poch will start with Son and Moura on each side of Kane to stop their WBs for venturing up the wings too often. Not sure whether it will be Eriksen or lamela as the other AM (My preference is Lamela).

Ndombele and sissoko in midfield. Ndombele should have had enough rest especially as our game is on Sunday.

backline - Davies, Toby, Sanchez and Foyth.

GK - Gazza

bench - Jan, Dier, Dele, GLC, Sess, Vorm & Aurier

I’m suprised reading through this thread that Toby is being left outve the squad etc, and Jan is in most 11s?? Have I missed something this season or have others watch the same games in which rose and jan have both been an absolute liability?
I feel that although Toby will leave he has put everything into the games?

I would be tempted to drop Alli for Dier and push ndombele forward to give us a bit more protection at the back on Sunday, it’s unfortunate that the toughest game of the season and one you may feel you need to change the style of play for... comes after a great performance.

Are you just repeating what he said after Watford? He's been shit. So has Jan. Both are slow and getting found out. Sanchez & Foyth will be our pairing soon enough.

Same team as RSB for me. Have to reward the effort of the players that stepped up otherwise it's pointless.

Well that was sort of my point? Why is Jan allowed to be shit yet Toby not? In the games I feel Jan has far the poorer attitude and far worse performed

No no no, just because a team performs well against a crap team at home doesn't mean it's the best team to face Liverpool away from home !!

As much as I want the starting lineup to be the same as midweek, realistically there will be some changes due to fitness etc. My optimistic preferred lineup is this:

Gazza
Aurier Sanchez Verts Davies
Winks Ndombele
Lucas Alli Son
Kane

Subs: Vorm, Foyth, KWP, Sissoko, Dier, Lamela, Lo Celso

Lamela has been in great form but we all know his fitness isn't great, and I think he'd struggle to play two games in a week so i've replaced him with Lucas. Winks didn't play which means he's a starter for the weekend - I just hope it's Sissoko who gets replaced and not Ndombele, who deserves to keep his place due to the fact he can actually provide a goal threat.

I do however expect to see Eriksen on the bench and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Toby and Rose start again.

It'll be an interesting team selection that's for sure.

All I want is for us to actually show up, we've done well at Anfield the past two years, we badly need to back up Tuesdays performance.

whatever team we put out they need to be up for it and really give a shit. If that means dropping rose, toby and eriksen again then so be it. If their hearts are not in it i would keep them out as much as we can so the players who care give their full attention to the game.

I'm biased in this as I much prefer Jan to Toby, but maybe the partnership itself was what was making them both play shit. I'd much rather play Vertonghen going forwards with Sanchez on the right.

The most ineffective Liverpool have been in a big game for a long time, was against MU who played a back 3 with the Wb's stopping Robertson and Trent and no.10 Pereira stopping the supply through Fabinho..

So i wouldn't be against something similar with Dele playing the Pereira role.

I get we are better when we play 4-2-3-1...but on this occasion i would consider the 3-5-2 , forget it was crap against Watford at home..
Yes 4-2-3-1 was great tuesday and i would play it 99% of our games, but Liverpool away is that 1% when we should consider 3-5-2 to stop them.
People may say we should attack them, and i am being negative, i say if we go toe to toe with them we will probably get done.

Whatever team plays, we have to replicate the intensity and desire we saw on the pitch on Tuesday. That, for me, is key.

It's very much a walk before you can run thing. If the situation is that the Red Star game was a sign of the malaise finally being shaken off, then the personnel won't matter as long as the desire is there, because a return to form won't necessarily happen all at once and also may not immediately lead to results going our way, either. But as long as the desire of the Red Star game is on show, then that suggests recovery is on the way.

I too believe consistency is important and I'm certainly not arguing against anyone advocating that - but the desire is the most important thing, no matter the result, no matter the personnel.

No tactical changes stick with the 4-2-3-1.

When we've got a bit of confidence back we can look at tactical tweaks in certain games until then just stick to what we know works. Hopefully not but I'd take a defeat in this one as long as there is a performance in there.

Yes.... let Liverpool run riot, that will do us the power of good.
