I know that Dier offers us more defensive stability than Winks but Dier is awful against a press due to the fact that he is not a natural turner combined with his limited passing ability and speed. Winks on the other hand is far more press-resistant so gets the nod for me. Maybe not ideal but we don't have a world class 6 so that's normal. I agree with the choice of athletic full backs but I'd rather Aurier at RB and Japhet at LB especially considering how poor Sess was in the week. I'd also rather see Lucas in the team over Lamela purely for his pace in transition.

Agree with all of that its my team too. Lamela is much better coming on as an impact player in the second half. Dier too slow and cumbersome to play n mid feld ,only place for him if at all is center back.

I like the players in the line up but its far too narrow to play v City the way it's set up. They'll pump us if we play that narrow and we wont see any of the ball in midfield.

I think we'll set up pretty much like for like as we did v Liverpool.

We can get at their full backs. Laporte being back means they're much stronger in the middle so targeting Walker and whoever they decide to play at LB will be key.

I'm hoping it's Eriksen's last game and he decides to play an absolute blinder. Laporte should be targeted. He won't be 100% in terms of form or match fitness. If Ndombele plays it may be closer than some might predict. Are Skipp & Parrot so bad that they can't get on the bench ahead of players like Dier?

Just don’t like Moura starting so no room for him.

I think it’s important Lo Celso starts centrally, at 8 or 10. He doesn’t exert the same impact when on the right.

Another alternative is playing 4-3-3 with Son & Lucas on the wings & Dele playing up top but also linking play, either way Lucas can’t be upfront on his own

I'd like to see something like this:

Alli (false 9)
Son Ndombele Lo Celso Lucas
Winks
Tanganga Verts Toby Aurier
Lloris
We'd need Lo Celso and Ndombele to stay fairly compact and protect the back 4, with Lucas and Son playing almost as wing backs and Alli drifting back to cover where needed - basically the whole team working hard to drop back and cover as a coherent unit (optimistic, I know). Ideally we'd have a more defensive anchor than Winks, but what other option do we have?

Then, when we win the ball we have have Ndombele and Lo Celso in the team who can both retain possession under pressure and break the lines from deep with runs and incisive passing. This combined with Lucas and Son's pace and width to hit them on the break and Alli's late runs and finishing would give us a nice balance.

Whisper it quietly you know Dele Alli is one of our main goal scorers.

Just saying.

I rate him, just think we're gonna set up in this with a low block/counter like we did vs Liverpool and Chelsea, and Dele slows everything down a bit too much for my liking. Also wanted that 5 at the back as I thought it worked well vs Liverpool and Tanganga deserves to keep his place.

I’ve heard this being said of Alli but I really don’t see how he does, of course it could be my lack of understanding.

To my eye our central defenders particularly Toby an Jan are the main culprits in moving the ball slowly across the back.
