I’ve heard this being said of Alli but I really don’t see how he does, of course it could be my lack of understanding.

To my eye our central defenders particularly Toby an Jan are the main culprits in moving the ball slowly across the back.

I'd agree against teams that sit back, it's one of my main criticisms of Toby - he takes 3 or 4 touches every time he gets the ball. Given that we'll look to counter vs City though, you'd think the CBs won't be hugely involved in those moves. For me if we have a new CF we can rely on him to make the Alli-esque runs, Son to use his pace and Lo Celso to add a bit of creativity/the final pass.

Am sure JM will play Dele regardless but it's certainly an interesting one - genuinely think we have a chance to get at least a point if we're up for it and set up right.

People choosing Tanganga and Sess as fullbacks and making jokes about Aurier like he hasn’t been one of our better players under Mourinho.

What even is this?

I’m gonna go on the assumption that no new signings.

Lloris
Aurier Alder Sanchez Tanganga
Winks
Lo Celso Ndombele
Lamela Dele Son

I was wondering whether Davies will be fit but seeing as we will be up against Mahrez cutting inside, I think Tanganga will do a good job.

front 3 is difficult but i do think it’s Lamela plus 2

They would rather lose than have Aurier in the team.

Given how Tanganga coped with Mane, I’d put him up against Sterling. Hoping Davies is fit for 60 mins, he seems to have been close for a while.

Had Aurier with him though, maybe if Davies is fit could go back 5 and sacrifice one of the front 2 for a 3-5-2, must admit I like the 4-3-3.

Aurier - Toby - Sanchez - Tanganga
Winks - Lo Celso
Bergwijn - Dele - Son
New CF
This is on the assumption Ndombole is still not deemed fit enough/mentally ready, that we sign Bergwijn and an new CF and that Davies is not ready. We need options off the bench too. This would give us Lamela, Moura, Ndombole and Sessegnon as fruitful options dependant on how the game develops.

Please not Tanganga at LB either.

He should be employed in the exact same role against Sterling, as he did against Mane vs. Liverpool. That means as RCB in a 3 man defence with wingbacks. I'm also far more comfortable with Aurier and Sess making their defensive mistakes further up the pitch as WB's.

Hopefully Ndombele is fit enough to start as well, whether it be in a CM2 or CM3.

I highly doubt any potential new signings will be involved as we're most likely to get the deals over the line on deadline day as we usually do, which means they wont be registered in time.

Whilst Aurier is still a notional defender this is valid. If we accept he is playing right wing it is not so valid. But I, and many others aren't sure where he is supposed to be playing. It definitely works better since Sissoko got injured though.

Why Don't we just play a decent DM and a real right winger?

Because:

a) We don't have a decent DM
b) We don't have a real right winger

Aside from that it's a solid plan.

I like this. However as some have said it's very narrow defensively. To address this we'd need the LCM + RCM to drop wider when necessary to support the full backs and prevent overloads. For this reason I'd have Ndombele at the base and asked Winks to do the shuttling role. Dele can also drop into CM when defending.

Aurier has shown good form last games. Id give him a chance. Tanganga if Serge turns out to have a bad day.
Jan for the experience. Tanganga in for him if city decides (and succeeds) to run circles around ol`Jan.
Dier/ndombele. I think Ndombele could do a good DM job.

subs: gazza, tanganga, sess, ndombele/dier, winks, gedson, Bergwijn

I was going to pick Lamela, but went Moura instead for his pace.
