Wasn't too happy so many of our 'first xi' played in Greece, hopefully we don't see the hangover on Sunday against villa.

Friedel
Walker caulker gallas vert
Sandro Dembele
Lennon siggy bale
Defoe

We could maybe get away with starting Townsend instead of Lennon?

Also ade to get half hour and score the winner!

I'm hoping that since Defoe played 90 minutes today, it was due to Adebayor being ready to come on for him against Villa (60th minute or so). I can't see him going 90 minutes back-to-back like that. Dempsey could always move up and Siggy come on as well as a last 30 minute switch/sub.

it's gonna be hard to choose, with the majority of the first team players bound to be tired from thursdays match. i think the backline will be similar to what we've been seeing recently, bale and lennon will play, as will dembele. sandro was rested so he will be on, and i think if ade still isn't match fit, another game for defoe. i guess that's basically the same team as thursday. figure that

If Naughton is fit I think he should come in for Walker. Walker has been poor all season, and rather than playing himself out of that rut, he seems to be getting worse. Cant see him kicking a ball for England when on International duty, so he'll get well rested, but it wont do his confidence nay good. Maybe missing out on the Euros in the summer has upset him?

Anyway, I dont want to see Naughton back at LB. Good defender, but limited on that side with no leftfoot. Would have no problem seeing him line up at RB though.
I'd go for this:
Friedel
Naughton Gallas Caulker Vertonghen
Sandro Dembele
Lennon Dempsey Bale
Defoe

The sooner we have Adebayor fit the better though. Defoe playing well but Adebayor will bring all of Lennon, Dempsey & Bale up another level.

Unless Ade (or Naughton) is fit then I can't see any further than:

.....................Friedel
Walker......Gallas....Caulker......Vert
................Sandro...Demb..............
Lennon..........Dempsey............Bale
.......................Defoe

If Ade is fit then he should replace Defoe, who can come on for Dempsey or somebody later if we need a goal. If Naughton is fit then I suggest Gallas drops to bench (he could do with a break) and Vertong moves central. I would like to think this is a home game (they didn't turn up last season and they are arguably worse now) where we can start Hudd for some game time but he really didn't look sharp at all last night

This should also be a game where we look to give Townsend more than 15 mins. He will be bursting to impress after his U21 call up

AVB's team : Friedel; Walker, Gallas(c), Caulker, Vertonghen; Sandro, Dembele; Lennon, Dempsey, Bale; Defoe.
Hopefully Adebayor is fit and get's a run out.

Well after yesterday's abysmal match, it's hard to make a case for most of that team to start but before we get all trigger happy and start dropping some of the mainstays, i'm hoping after so little exertion we should be able to field a strong 11 without much fatigue.

Ultimately though, our attitude has to be much improved and come at Villa right from the get-go - no half arsed closing down or tracking back - full on from the first minute to the last!

Whilst i'd like to make changes, i'm going to go with the side that I think AVB will go for which will be a return to the Old Trafford line up;

Friedel
Walker Gallas Caulker Vertonghen
Sandro Dembele
Lennon Dempsey Bale
Defoe

My only concern with that team is Gallas but I'm not really sure what we can do about that.

I think we'll struggle with tiredness on Sunday....going to be a worrying game methinks.

Would love to see that team mate, but we all know the starting eleven will be the one that beat United.

I worry about Sunday I really do. I was worried at the start of the week lol, and then when I saw the team last night my bi polar started kicking in again :)

As I was saying last night, how the fuck could we of been tired after that amble about? That's the only thing that leaves me a little optimistic for Sunday.

Lambert knows how to come to WHL and win, Bent has had a kick up the arse before returning to a Club where he wants to prove the doubters wrong...hmm.

Whilst Villa look poor in midfield and at the back you can be sure they'll be working they're nuts off on Sunday. That said, if we do have the energy to get the better of a poor Villa midfield we should still run out winners but I've been fearing this all week and it wouldn't at all surprise me if we drop points - which will be massively frustrating after last weekend.

I think we will slip up on Sunday, I can see Bent scoring but hopefully we will get at least a point

I can certainly see a tired performance leading to a sloppy performance though and while Villa are not the best team we don't have the best record at their ground and I think it will be a tough game, i'm not really expecting a win (but then I was expecting a win a lot less at Old Trafford)

Yeah but its why AVB should of mixed it up more for last nights game (definitely not hindsight this). The Villa game would of been my priority, however that doesn't mean you have to do a 'Harry' with the side for last night - just sensible changes taking into account that we have two games in three days, and one being an away game quite far away.

Its funny, but had he started more of the fringe players we would of seen a better performance, more hungry to prove they're worth to the manager etc...a bit more determination on show.

I'm not being ultra critical here, I'm encouraged at the moment and love AVB, just saying how I personally would of liked it handled - if that makes sense.

Surely the Man U match showed just how valuable Gallas is to us?

Have you been drinking this morning?

He's the one outfield player who's been completely rested for this - first name on the team sheet as far as I'm concerned.

Tiredness maybe when you factor in the 4 hour flight? Not sure mate, I'm a bit ho-hum about last night, in my opinion it's a dogshite competition and until UEFA sort it out themselves I do agree it is more of an inconvenience than anything else, mostly just for the fact you have to play on a Sunday.

I agree with you, we cant be tired after the game, but I'm not sure what the mental affect is of playing so many games? Strange one. Maybe that's where some of the fatigue comes in?

I'm not confident for Sunday, I think the United game has given us a bit of a false pretence, we played really well in the first half but if we played the second half again 10 times, we would probably lose it 9 times.
