Long has it been since I have felt the urge to contribute with a fully fledged article with a Spurs bias, maybe my disappointment over the Jol situation has finally subsided and I am ready to start my Spurs life again this time under the guidance of Harry Redknapp. What persuaded me to start this article were a few negative posts and I thought I would attempt to add an air of positivity.

What has ignited my new Spurs confidence was the game against Spartak Moscow, yes the one we almost messed up. This was the Spurs I know and before a few sarcastic comments come out I meant the way we were playing football, not the appalling errors. There are certain players at Spurs which could be the next generation, before we had Carrick, King, Berbatov and Keane. Now we have Modric, O’Hara (yes Jamie O’Hara) Lennon and Huddlestone. I feel if our first team was fully fit (if only) we are striker and a left back away from greatness.

One moment sparked my attention was against Man U it was late in the game Spurs were under a little pressure, not an onslaught and the Spurs of old would just be booting it out in panic and sitting ten men behind the ball but I saw something that impressed me and makes me realise we have the future captain of Tottenham Hotspur in our ranks. Ronaldo had the ball in a threatening position on the left wing, Jamie O’Hara came across won the ball (an achievement in itself) and then calmly played a one two with Zokora and played the ball out of danger with confident short passes and a bit of skill. In my opinion he has the grit and engine of a midfield dog fighter and the footballing ability of a creative midfielder. If he gets his head screwed on right and calms his game, he has the potential to be our future captain and possibly even captain eventually. Our Steven Gerrard.

Ok we got beat by Newcastle by a late goal but these things happen. We can take the odd defeat as long as we play the Spurs way, I know some people would sell their own mother for some success but I would be happy with good quality football and a quality hard working football team. I firmly believe that with the majority of players we have at Spurs can take us forward and eventually to the top four as long as we are patient. We must also be careful not to sign a multitude of players and close the revolving doors at White Heart Lane, a couple of signings in key positions will be needed but lets have a settled first eleven and become a team.

We had a settled team with Jol and I firmly believe that if we had added experienced or premiership experienced players instead of Boateng, Taarabt and Kaboul, we would be in a similar league position as Villa are now. Hopefully Daniel Levy will learn from his mistakes and make sure Spurs don’t let anyone leave with the exception of the players who have not been involved much with Spurs (Boateng, Rocha etc.)

I believe we have a lot to be hopeful for this year, and I would personally be happy if we only added to our squad in January. We lost key players in summer and hopefully we will realise that we cannot let good squad players go and we cannot have a team full of Modrics - we need a balance.

Hopefully Spurs will progress next year enough to enjoy some cup success. We have a new stadium on the way, a financially stable club and a team that can beat anyone on their day. We should also be celebrating our British spine of players to go with our british manager. We should be celebrating the fact that we are out of the relegation zone playing good football as we go. I firmly believe the only way is up.

Come on you Spurs!

I also agree and would like to see at most 3 players come in January. Two who can play immediately and one for the future. They should be a striker and DM for now and a CB for the future. Possibly Wheater and sell at most 3 players.

Amen to that brother. I have said many times that football comes first and that there are no short cuts to success. If you have to buy or cheat or sell the fans short to achieve success its not worth having.
I am really pleased by the positivity in your article and by the responses to mine. I'm not negative just worried.I fall for the pre-season hype every year as I say.
I also agree that the revolving door policy on players and managers has undermined any long term team building.
We do have alot to be hopeful about but we have to get out of this mess first.

I agree will the general positive tone from FR, particularly about the style of play which when Spurs are on form is simply superb. I am not one of those fans who think winning is everything. It is playing great football that attracts me. And yes I love the way Arsenal play (i am not blinkered!) and am prepared to say i do like watching them as well. But when Spurs outplay Arsenal then i am in heaven.

Just an aside will the transfer market about to open. Spurs have 13 players they could allow to leave yes 13!

Cesar Sanchez Lee Butcher Charlie Daniels Gilberto
Ricardo Rocha Adel Taarabt(sadly) Jack Maghoma Andy Barcham
Tom Pekhart (not doing it at Southampton)
Simon Dawkins Troy Archibald-Henville (again sadly he couldn't cut it at Norwich C) Hossan Ghaly Kieran Mckenna (just back from injury but...)

This will allow for the very promising youngsters to get greater opportunities :- Danny Rose Ryan Mason David Hutton Adam Smith
Oscar Jansson Jon Obika John Bostock Dean Parrett ..................and on and on

The future is bright its called TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Happy Xmas and New Year to all

I agree, the performance against Newcastle wasn't bad at all. I can see why the other posters drew parellels with the Jol era as it was horrible to watch us throw away the points, but I wasn't crying into my beer afterwards. We are so much better than we were at the start of the season and Modric is starting to look the real deal.

I don't think we'll make wholesale changes in Jan. We could do with another CF as Campbell isn't good enough and while Bent & Pav are good finishers, neither contribute much to the build up.

Another full back is a priority as Gilberto is finished, Bale and Gunter need more time and Corluka is probably going to be needed at CB. Finnan on loan till the end of the season would be great

That's a good assessment of things IMHO. I think any manager coming into a team and seeing the strikers we have would be worried especially given the situation we were / are in. Pav may need to play with a supporting striker to become more successful and Bent isn't intelligent enough to do it - so in that I think Ramos and Poyet were right. If he gets goals this season I'd be grateful but definitely sell him in the summer.

The move of Corluka is pretty clear as you said as Ledley can't play enough and inspite of a couple of reasonable performances, Dawson gets found out for his poor decision making and positional sense too often. I would however be happy to giveGunter muchmore time than he currently gets.

Thank god for some optimism from someone, although i was gutted by the result as newcastle are my pet hate. I honestly believe we will finish in the top half of the table, but at present we still need to focus more on the teams below us than above us. We are also not one of the teams that will have to sell to survive over the next year or so, so thank you Levy for a sound financial footing. For the first time in years we also have a manager who has the final say in transfers so any players signed should be for the right reasons. The future is bright.......you know the rest.COYS

yes I am optimistic again. Agree about another centre forward, i dont agree about a left back. We need more cover at centre back, would be happy if we got 2 GOOD experienced players in those positions. Also, let those players who do not figure in Harry's plans go.
