Would prefer to see Carroll playing with the big boys; he needs to be given the chance to prove he has more to offer than the likes of Sandro, Paulinho and Dembele.

Interesting that Fredericks and isn't with the U21s, and encouraging that Mason isn't.

He had his chance on the US tour and didn't look like he had anything to offer.

I'm wondering whether Carroll and Ceballos being in the squad means that there are loans on the horizon ? Carroll did not perform on the US tour, Ceballos a more mixed bag, looked very good in one game on tour but decidedly average in another - and those might also be good reasons given the size of squad as they can't all be in the squad to play Celtic.

Also no Coulthirst - is he off on loan to Cheltenham, is that the reason for his omission ? First sighting of Coulibaly this pre-season

He was played as the DM which is unfair, when paired next to a DM he can do well. His best performances for QPR were next to Karl Henry but when he was played at DM thats when he struggled

I genuinely believe that was because he was playing off soldado and then played with Kane.

Seattle Sounders are the best team we played in preseason and cebellos was the best player in that game. Lennon wouldnt of looked great against Toronto had he not been playing with Soldado, Eriksen and Lamela

Disagree somewhat. Mason always seemed to be paired with Capoue whereas Carroll was either with Holtby or was sitting deep in the diamond iirc, plus TC has Dawson and Fryers behind him. Despite this he still did the same as Mason in terms of switching play and keeping the ball moving but with Mason we just looked more assured due to Capoue. If I recall it was TC's vision and ball that helped create our first goal against Seattle, I dont' remember Mason directly contributing like that.

May sound like a dig at Mason, he played well it's more to do with I think once again Carroll wasn't really given a fair chance, and even when he did play he helped create.

Good to see we have improved after the first match. Amazing to see how far our academy has come. Aston Villa got one of the best in England and we all now how Arsenals used to be and we have just brushed them off

Bollocks. Almost everyone looked shit on the pre-season tour; almost everyone almost always looks shit on almost every pre-season tour.

Carroll had a total of 90 mins; and in the second game against Chicago he was practically playing in midfield on his own.

Christ people are quick to write off our young players.

Not writing him off but he doesn't deserve to be in the first team over academy grads like Mason and Bentaleb. They both showed more than he did.

And not sure what preseason tour you watched because i thought a lot of our players looked very good.

I've said it before, but a player like Carroll takes time to mature. There's no point expecting him to be a first teamer aged 22. I'm prepared to give him a few more years yet. I think if he can add some defensive nous to his passing game, and gain confidence in the right team environment, he could be a great player. But we have to be very careful with any loans, because we could destroy him if we're not careful.

Bentaleb has not shown anything more than Carroll in this preseason as he has not played, so I assume you are basing that off his performances last season and WC and fair I would say Bentaleb his more of a first teamer atm.

But Mason? Well Carroll played more regularly, with mixed reviews, (stats generally showed the team did better when he played) in the Championship. Mason did well when he played for Swindon but once again was hit by injury and I think Pritchard did better and he hasnt been deemed good enough.

Mason played preason with a stronger partner and better defence. Also Carroll didnt get to play the last game as he was injured, so not really a fair comparison. I stand by the fact that if Bentaleb, Kane and Veljkovic can make it. SO can Carroll, Pritchard and Ceballos. The latter 3 were all arguably better than the first 3 when we dominated the u21s so don't see why they can't make it, only thing they ahve going against them I just realised is that they are older, so less time on their hands. All the more reason to give them a chance now i guess.

Think the point about adding more defensive nous to his passing game is a big point.

My perception is that Poch may prefer players who are 'good' at more than one thing - which may be one reason why the attraction to Morgan (passing & steel) and (according to rumour ) why Sandro is not his favourite (DM only, litmited passing skills) , and indeed why Mason (passing and steel) may have made the cut.

We've actually got quite a few youngsters that Poch has to make decisions on (he cannot fit them all into the squad) so its tough (and even unfair) on those that Poch seems to be excluding after a very short audition on the pre-season tour.

Interesting that the team for the game we lost looks stronger/more experienced on paper.
