The Case for Murat Yakin

I thought I'd start a thread for another possible candidate, Murat Yakin

De Boer seems the more logical choice. Plays a possession based style that would mean a continuation of what AVB started.Knows two of our players very well, Vertonghen and Eriksen, and would hopefully get the best out of them. Has a legendary reputation as a player, which would be the polar opposite of AVB, which could be considered as something we need right now.

But I know who I'd rather watch play out of Basel and Ajax (it's not Ajax). How can you not be impressed by this team that has handed out footballing lessons to Spurs (twice), Chelsea (twice) playing quite frankly some of the sweetest counter attacking football you'll see. All this in a group of players that cost literally penny's in comparison to that of ourselves/Chelsea.

There's something there with this guy, no two managers are the same of course, but if we're looking for the next Klopp, I'd say this guy is as close as it gets currently. I'm not gonna post a load of meaningless stats to back up this post, as it's just my opinion, but I will leave you with this...

Jürgen Klopp is pondering the similarities between himself and Arsène Wenger, between his Borussia Dortmund team and Arsenal which, on the face of it, appear to be numerous. Klopp, however, does not see it. "He likes having the ball, playing football, passes … it's like an orchestra," the Dortmund manager says, pretending to play the violin. "But it's a silent song, yeah? I like heavy metal."

I guess I prefer Heavy Metal.

Have to be honest I don't know too much about Yakin. But Basel have always been tricky to play against when I've seen them. And who knows, maybe he can bring Salah with him? They have a few decent players to be fair

IMO he's a lot more likely to be appointed than FdB.

Would be nice! Fabien Shar is a very good player also.

Part of the Basle thing though is that they get underestimated in Europe. I'm not convinced by any stretch.

Possibly, but why underestimate them when they have beaten you once already? I think there just a very good team mate.

PS Any chance you could bold the thread title? cheers

Just no for me. He's doing very well in a much smaller league, at a club that he also played at for decades, and knows inside out. It would be a totally different kettle of fish coming to the PL and a club like ours, too much of a risk.

Thats fair enough, but when you play in this type of league, where the title is fairly easy to win, you then look at the performances in Europe.

It's not just about an easy league to win, it's about the footballing culture he's coming from. They have very little pressure to win in Europe, in fact every victory is a bonus of sorts. It's too soon at club like ours, IMO.

Basel fans want him out. No thank you.
Do they really though? Or are you just going on a random post that 'The American' found on some website somewhere? Champions last season, top of their league right now, taking huge scalps in Europe, whilst playing some of the best football around. I strongly doubt the majority of fans want him out.

Because he's got a better squad than almost everyone in Switzerland and has drawn more than he's won.

Because he apparently plays duller football than AVB.

Because he is no way near experienced enough.

He is no where near the level we want.

He's actually more experienced than De Boer.

I'm sure Murat Yakin was a pretty decent defensive midfielder that at some point I really wanted at Spurs.

For that reason I say get him in.

In a worse league, at a club which hasn't had a tradition of playing the kind of football we crave, and isn't a player that was so good he immediately deserves respect.

If it's between de Boer & Yakin, it's de Boer every single time.

Do we all crave possession football though? It's easier to play that style when you have the best technical passers in that league. Think you'll find its harder to do in the Prem, especially with the group of players we currently have.

Havent seen enough of Basel really to make an informed opinion, playing style wise though I would prefer De Boer or Pochettino.
