County batting average 2019

Ben Foakes, 26.14

Ollie Pope, 80.14

Blame the top 6, not the selectors.

Agree with what Atherton said about Sibley, doesn’t look international Player and with technique he has will struggle at this level. At same time he has only played three innings and should go in squad to South Africa.

there’s been many successful batsmen with iffy techniques - Cook, Graeme Smith, Steve Smith (!) to name a few. you either have the mentality to make it work or you don’t.

i hope Sibley gets a proper run, at least as many games as they gave Jennings for example. a couple of home and away series, and then we’ll know for sure if he’s got it.

I would disagree here, those players had "unorthodox" techniques. Sibley's isnt unorthodox, it's restrictive to the shots he can play.

maybe you’re right.

I don’t think there’s shots Sibley can’t play though - for example in some of his big innings in county cricket, I’ve seen him play some wonderful shots through the offside. it’s just in international cricket he’s less likely to get the right ball to do it, especially once bowlers have figured him out.

at that point, he has to have the mentality to wait for the right ball to play his shots.

the only thing with a technique like his, is that it’s more likely to get found out against quicker bowlers at international level. but i guess thats the same for most batsmen.

very sad. i always enjoyed watching him shithouse the England players on the cricket debate thing on sky.

also a genuinely brilliant bowler, always remembered for his part in Botham’s Ashes.

RIP Bob.

Yep. It was only a few months ago he was virtually shouting at the other pundits. Jonathan Trott always used to piss himself laughing when he was on.

In a sporting world of bland, glib punditry it was great that someone actually said what they were feeling, without holding back.

RIP indeed.

Shit. Bob was a legend of English cricket, too old for me to see when he was playing but his commentary particularly in the 2005 Ashes was genius.

Gutted. Grew up watching Bob and as a bowler loved that iconic action steaming in from the boundary

Played for Stoke D'Abernon CC in his early days where I’ve played many times. Lovely pic of him in the clubhouse

RIP Big Bob

I recorded him back in May where he said about how Pakistan can’t catch, their ground fielding is sub standard and they can’t throw, it was hilarious punditry, just a shame I can’t upload the video.
RIP Bob, you’ll be missed for your no nonsense commentary just as much as your bowling.

Cricket lovers. Fine writing on the master cricket writer.

Duncan Hamilton has won the 31st William Hill Sports Book of the Year award,
becoming the only author in its history to have won three times.
for his biography of the Guardian’s late cricket correspondent Neville Cardus.

!7.99 from the Guardian bookshop. Bought it for my brother for Xmas hoping to nick it when I visit later in the year. What?

Watched Botham and Willis, Ashes memories last night. Really didn't appreciate how good mates they were and how Sir Ian almost seemed to idolise him in some aspects.
