great knock by Billings (and Willey), nice to see him stand up and play another match winning innings. really taking his chance this series.

Also good to see Bairstow coming back into the sort of form we know his talent warrants.

Vincey at least has a wicket, unlike Moe!

Pre sandpaper gate...hasn't moved one off the straight since.
Vincey? True.

We got rattled in that series whatever the weather. I just liked the fact that Vince had made 55 in that clip and still got out bowled. If I have to accept he may only be good enough to play T20 for England, then I'll do so and try an make light of it. He'll come good one day, just you see! ;)

Any of you run an eye over the opening of the county season yesterday?

No not Vince you savage...the convict!

I love watching Vince, got a great cover drive. Just like a lot of other people over the years lacks the mental part to play Test cricket to the best of his ability. Stick him in the Ramps, Hick category. I feel that is why they persevered with Denly for so long, because he has the attitude, just lacks that bit of quality which is a shame.

It is a shame, as I said to Arnie, probably someone to warm the bench, clearly fits in with the squad but time to find the alternative. Morgan said yesterday after the game finished that he was happy batting lower during this series to give others a chance so be interesting to see if Livingstone (got called up after Denly pulled out of this squad) gets a go on Tuesday or if they make changes ahead of the next one day series (when ever that is)

Does this last match count to this new system they have in place for the next world cup?

Yeah the only surprise was Gubbins smoking a 150 red inker, he averaged about 7 last year. And basically up north the ball still did a bit which isn't really a shock.
Good to see Crane in the wickets though, tailenders mind you. Ollie Stone in the wickets as well.

Phil Salt looks an attacking opener, no idea about mental make up but his technique looks sound at county level.

Am I alone in thinking that Moeen Ali is a busted flush as his bowling has been poor for a while and his batting awful for longer ?

he’s certainly been struggling for a while. I didn’t realise his ODI stats were so bad till they were talked about during the Ireland game.

Chris Broad is not a breath on Glen McGraths shoelases. Nowhere near the same class.
Totally agree, Chris was a complete pie thrower.
Stuart on the other hand...?
McGrath played 16 matches fewer and took 60 more than Broad.
McGrath struck fear into the oppo every time he had the ball in his hand, Broady doesn’t have the same kudos however when it all comes together for him and he enters one of his purple patches he’s almost unplayable.
I wouldn’t have SB up there as a great however I do think he’s probably not had enough recognition and has always been in JA’s shadow.

I really shouldn't post when I'm pissed! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I may have been a little harsh, and yes I have seen him bowl when he is in the groove and I know what you mean.

Pigeon was amazing. He would hit the same spot over and over forcing the batsman to either have a go at him, or Warne at the other end. Probably the best bowling combo I have seen.

The spin bowler with the best figures is murilitheran does that mean other spinners are not top class the likes of Warne / Laker / Underwood and many indian and Pakistani bowlers ? Of course not some are better than others but they are still great bowlers .
As for Broad he could go on and beat Anderson's wicket count it does not make him better or worse of course not just different .
So just going on stats alone is to my mind not the right way to judge if a bowler is world class . That time that Broad took 8 for 17 in that moment for me he was the best bowler in the world . He has had his moments where he has changed the course of a match and at times been unplayable . Thats not to say there are quite a few in front of him because there is never the less a player who has taken over 500 wickets should be rightly called world class altho there are more than a few better than him .
For me one of the best bowlers ever for England was John Snow and I think one of the greats . Do his figures bear this out probably not .
But when you take into account he practically carried the England fast bowling attack on his own as there was a scarcity of bowlers about in his time if he had two or three other quickies to share the load his figures would have been a lot better as he would not have been overbowled so often .

ODI v Ireland today. be good to see some of our squad players playing ODI cricket, given that all the test playing ODI players are being rested.

Particularly looking forward to seeing Tom Banton. Also happy to see Willey and Topley back around the squad, being a left-arm seamer myself we're all in the union together :)

nice from Banton so far. batting in an unfamiliar position, after the top 3 went cheaply, he's played really nicely. would love for him to make his way into the T20 world cup side.

He's another one with an attitude that I like. He rates himself, sort of the Aussie way of thinking. It's what a lot of our highly talented players of the past have struggled with.
