He's another one with an attitude that I like. He rates himself, sort of the Aussie way of thinking. It's what a lot of our highly talented players of the past have struggled with.

yes, he has the self belief, bordering on arrogance when he’s taking on the bowling. the right sort of mentality.

Too many loose wickets here, and even I can't defend Moeen's batting in this series. Let's see if he bowls well, or at all!

At 225-7 we need to consolidate for half a dozen overs rather than trying to reach 400! 250 / 260 will be a challenge for Ireland; let's make sure we get at least to that figure first, then go for it.

Moeen. Mo mo mo mo mo......sigh

First ball he plays an absolutely rank shot and nearly gifts a catch, third ball he fails to put away a gift and then he gets out.

I cannot continue to defend him :cautious:

I'll miss you Vincey even if no one else will!

Some fine hitting at the end. Competitive to the last. Our one day and T20 stuff is something to behold when you think about it. Still not a fan of it all though, think I agree with Michael Holding. Hopefully the bowlers go well and we get a 3-0 series win, early points in the new qualification format for the next world cup (I think).

this could be a good chase if Stirling stays in for a while. Campher looked lime he had some shots last game, this could be a close one.

Englands bowling has been poor so far. Mahmood and Curran don’t seem to be able to build pressure, they don’t seem to have any sort of plan.

actually a good last couple of overs from Curran and Mahmood. mad how far the game has come when a RRR of 7.5 seems simple for the batting side.

Shows the vast quality between England's main team and that one that played today.

Well done Ireland. I managed to get 11/10 when they still needed well over 100 runs so thanks for the drink.

Special mention to Moeen for his runs, wickets and captaincy in the absence of Morgan in the field. It can't have been easy :cautious:

The spin bowler with the best figures is murilitheran does that mean other spinners are not top class the likes of Warne / Laker / Underwood and many indian and Pakistani bowlers ? Of course not some are better than others but they are still great bowlers .
As for Broad he could go on and beat Anderson's wicket count it does not make him better or worse of course not just different .
So just going on stats alone is to my mind not the right way to judge if a bowler is world class . That time that Broad took 8 for 17 in that moment for me he was the best bowler in the world . He has had his moments where he has changed the course of a match and at times been unplayable . Thats not to say there are quite a few in front of him because there is never the less a player who has taken over 500 wickets should be rightly called world class altho there are more than a few better than him .
For me one of the best bowlers ever for England was John Snow and I think one of the greats . Do his figures bear this out probably not .
But when you take into account he practically carried the England fast bowling attack on his own as there was a scarcity of bowlers about in his time if he had two or three other quickies to share the load his figures would have been a lot better as he would not have been overbowled so often .
I think me and @Spurs_Bear both have a problem with Murili. If you bowl with a bent arm at the moment of delivery you are throwing it. Simple as. But only Darryl Hair had the balls to call it in a match.
When people talk of greats (world class) there are so many players from the 70's and 80's that figures are somewhat out. Then Packer decided he wanted the cricket on the 9 network in Australia from auntie ABC, and he proceeded to completely change cricket as we know it (for the better in my opinion) so many great players careers ended when they signed on.
The best fast bowlers I have ever seen are Dennis Lillee, Michael Holding and Andy Roberts, in no particular order. Lillee's back problems really hampered him getting more wickets and the other two were the best fast combination I have ever seen.

Phil Salt is a bit the same. I like him. Played for the Strikers last big Bash. Got that swagger even though he didn't set the house alite.

Team for today?

All depends on Stokes's fitness, I guess. If he can bowl Crawley comes back in for Woakes; otherwise it's the same team as last time out.

I can think of at least one other Sri Lankan bowler who's action was suspect :D

And here's some Trivia. Former England captain called for throwing - David Gower :woot:
First ever cricketer called for throwing was an Australian. There's a shock :sneaky:
Every chance you can get, Lol.

Looks very likely we will be coming for a limited overs contest.
