We're starting to look like we've got the beginnings of a team developing here. Having said that, it still wouldn't surprise me if we were all out for under 400 :D

The England cricket team, I would say they were cricket's version of 'spursy' but that's New Zealand.

I think you're right, especially since, when Burns is fit, we will actually have competition for the opening slots. I admit I don't see Denly as a #3 though, and certainly not long term.

Great credit to the guys sticking around yesterday - attritional though it was, we needed it - but 148-4 still puts pressure on the middle order. Had one of these two failed, it would have been dodgy. Small margins I guess, but credit where it's due; Stokes and Pope have been brilliant both yesterday and especially this morning.

That was fun to watch, especially after how ****y they've been when they've taken wickets.

499/9d is not a bad 1st innings total. Now lets see what this Eng bowling attack can do.

Good catch by Pope and a 3rd for Bess. They're having a good match!

With Elgar gone it's already looking dodgy for SA.

Edit: And repeat!

Anyone watch the cricket debate just now? Gooch was being a right prick to the new guy from the tailenders podcast. He never acknowledged him once in the whole show

Got a nasty feeling the rain is gonna balls this test right up for us.

Good effort from Bess today, with the play they got.

Agreed. Vital to make them follow on. The weather won't leave enough time for us to spend 40-50 overs making it safe.

blimey. decent hour or so’s work this morning.

weather the only thing that stops England winning this one now.

interesting how Root is using Wood this match. pretty much how they should use Archer. short, sharp, bowl as fast as you can spells. excellent stuff.

Fantastic days cricket from England. To be enjoyed while it lasts as I'm sure there will be a few bad days to come, but all the while young players are being given a chance I'm OK with it. Even Root did well today :D

Fingers crossed we get enough overs in tomorrow to finish it off as the forecast doesn't look great. Finally some positives around the test team though, albeit clearly this not a very good South Africa team (especially their batting line up).

Also what on earth was Root doing bowling some sort of feeble 'bouncer' last over of the day? He nearly got Sibley killed at leg slip.

Lots of positive signs with this group. Let’s hope they can build some consistency and smash the Saffers again at Jo'burg

Especially -Robana

If you mean Rabada, he's been banned for the next game after his celebrations on dismissing Root were deemed OTT.

Don't get me wrong, I want Root to get a fiver for. But I love the fact the Maharaj just spanked him for 28 off an over to send a bit of a message.

It was meant to read ‘minus Rabada' but mixed him up with Lamelas 'goal'

On his ban I don’t know how anyone can argue against it for consistently crossing the line
Crazy that this hasn’t been ironed out of his game yet
