Buttler will get a century and ram it down everyone's throat

Go Jos
If you say it enough times I guess it will come true eventually. I hope he does and then they pick him in the next match as a batsman. But he’s fucking garbage behind the stumps. Case in point being their keeper stood up to a guy bowling 82mph to get our batsmen out of their comfort zone. Not even a chance of Buttler doing that.

I like Buttler a lot but at the end of the day, he's not really contributing that much with the bat which means his wicketkeeping needs to be top drawer. Sadly it isn't. He's not really doing it in either discipline so for me, the benefit of playing him just isn't there right now.

Foakes needs to be brought in as he can't do any worse with the bat but he'll certainly be better behind the stumps.

Someone up top needs to spill the beans to Root and tell him he’s not a bowler, ridiculous the amount of times he brings himself on.
As a skipper I’ve no problem with backing yourself but come on, you’ve got five specialists bowlers that have been picked for this test.
Great bat when he is on his game but captaincy, batting at 3 and bowling is just bonkers and something needs to give.
Embarrassing to see a touring side with no warm up games come in and school us on home soil.

Got to question what the think tank was behind the opening overs of the session after lunch only to hand the new ball over to Bess so soon after taking it. Throw in the fact that they then asked Woakes to bowl in a way that really doesn't suit what he does and under bowl Archer and England via whoever Root sat down with at lunch, handed the impetus over to Pakistan and we never recovered.

Pakistan are value though, they've been the better team over the last two days.

Shed load of work to be done tomorrow to save this test.

To be fair - I have only said it once...

I dont know the intricacies and tactics of cricket but i just use my eyes really and do lack understanding of the game.. i like him though

He is shit behind the wicket i accept that. I also suspect that the reason he doesn't do what the others do is because he is being told to do it jn the way he is? I don't know. B

If you keep you are pretty pivotal in the corridor and where you stand, it’s almost like you own the area so you can dictate to the skipper what you think the best positions are for the bowler.
As a keeper you need confidence in your own ability behind the stumps and jos doesn’t own it at the moment.

You either have it behind the stumps or you don't.

Jos as a batsman in modern cricket when he turns it on is probably up there destructive/explosive and attacks fear him, as a keeper - he's no Micahael Bates ... :playful:

Can anyone explain how on Earth Buttler gets picked over Foakes?

Yes. Ed Smith nailed his balls to the mast when he brought Jos out of the IPL to play Test Cricket having only played 2 First Class games in a year. He's his project and he's not letting go.

The power struggle is real in the England team set up again. Feels like the 90's again.

The theory is, that when England have built up a decent score, he comes in and flays it all around the park. Or, his destructive batting can take a game away from the opposition really quickly.

The trouble is, we don't often make a decent score before he's in and/or when we do, he doesn't. Like when he opened against the Windies in a quest for quick runs. IIRC he made a very quick duck.

Basically, he can't really play like a test match batsman and he isn't allowed to play like Jos Buttler. So both reasons for picking him aren't happening. You have to point the finger at the England think tank on this one.

It’s absolute bollox. We all love Buttler, he’s an amazing 1 day player BUT we continually make excuses for his Test match batting:

Not enough runs when he came in
Too many runs when he came in
Came in just before tea
Came in just after tea
Came in just as the spinner came on
Came in just as they took the new ball
Came in needing very quick runs
Couldn’t play himself in
The fucking sun was in his eyes
Forgot to put his batting gloves on and went out to bat with his keeping gloves

Has never ever ever looked really comfortable on the Test stage whenever he’s gone out to bat in whatever circumstance

He’s not fucking Adam Gilchrist, that bloke was a bloody freak and in the same way that Buttler looks completely out of his comfort zone in Test Cricket, Gilchrist was clearly born for it

Get Buttler the fuck out of the side ffs

He scored a ton in his 2nd or 3rd game after re-selection which sort of muddied the waters I guess.

Oddly enough his First Class average and Test average are both worse than Foakes.

Knowing our fucking selectors they'll pick Bracey anyway if they were to drop him.

Is absolutely futile picking Buttler. Foakes must be livid.

Also how can we have a captain that doesn’t know how to use truly fast bowlers or leg spinners? It’s not rocket science. Give Archer/Wood short 4 over bursts looking to bowl fast and work batsman over. For a leg spinner, get men in catching positions and accept you will give away some runs, but back them.

I'm not keen on this constant bashing of Root's captaincy :sneaky:

But yeah, he's not very good at it :D

Looking forward to the day Root gives up the captaincy (they'll never sack him in a million)

If that day were today, who would you pick?

No way i'd give it to Stokes and risk losing his form/ability, not to mention doing it 'his way' against the Windies wasn't exactly a resounding endorsement of his ability to do the job.

Do we pick the best English county captain and do a Brearley? Candidates seem a bit thin on the ground to me
