After watching Phililipe Gilbert's amazing solo ride in Flanders I realised the wasn't a dedicated cycling thread.

What a performance by Gilbert! Solo ride to victory from the 55km mark. Stunning win.

Well done Phillipe. Looked like the rider from 2011!

It was an astonishing ride, chapeau indeed. Seems moving to Quickstep has done him good. I'm glad we're playing Saturday this weekend and not Sunday so as to clash with Paris-Roubaix.

It's my favourite race of the whole calendar. I've been tempted to enter the sportive one year, but then go over the short, comparatively smooth cobbled road on my commute and remember that would be a mental idea. I guess you'll be hoping for a similar result to last year?

Hell yeah.....Only ever 2 Aussie winners, and lets face it both were out of the blue.
Then again thinking about it I'm not sure why. It's a race for the strong men, and that's what we are...(well not me)..and we have produced some super domestique's.
I'll never forget Stuart O'Gradys win and yes it may be a bit tarnished but all wins at that time were.
I must say I'm glad the sport seems to have cleaned itself up somewhat.

A third would be as well, although Turbo Durbo's having a decent season so far so not a bad outside bet. Surely only the least romantic of cycling fans would begrudge Boonen a fifth win though. Hopefully he doesn't have the same problems he did at Flanders, or that Cancellara had last year. Still waiting the elusive first British winner!

Was gutted for Sparticus!. And yes would love to see big Tom win in his last race ever. What a great career, and would be capped of with a fifth win!

Well that was a relatively uneventful, dare I say dull race by Paris-Roubaix standards. The consistently high pace in the first few hours and refusal to let a break get away until just before Arenberg didn't help. Shame it was won by a drug cheat as well. Hopefully there's a bit more excitement in the Ardennes in the next few weeks.

Agree. Fastest race time since 1964! Not really the event we hoped for.
Where was rain when you needed it! :D

Its more exciting when the weather is crap.

I've ridden very short sections of cobbles in France (many years ago) and bloody hell do you get beaten up by them, especially if you're a skinny guy like me bouncing up and down on the saddle

Yeah, but then it's not been a wet race for a while but the last few where Hayman, Degenkolb and Terpstra won have all been much more exciting races than this year.

He's done it again! Vintage Gilbert today. What a cracking spring he is having.
Be worth a few bucks as a flutter for next weekend as well!

It's like 2012 again. I thought Kwiatkowski had him at the end. It'll be interesting to see how Quickstep decide their strategy for Liege-Bastogne-Liege with Dan Martin's form in that race.
