Nice stat. He obviously had a sensational 2016/17 season and all the comments regarding his performance from his manager were lacking substance. I and many others must have imagined the countless bang average games he had too.

People comparing Sissoko and Barkley are silly, Barkley isnt the best, yes, but he has been far more productive in the Prem than Sissoko ever has, genuinely would love him here, think he could get much better under Poch.

If we really want to be regarded as a "Top" club we need more strength in depth, we will need to compete in all 4 competitions and need enough creative players to do so. In my opinion we would need both Lamela and Barclay, or someone like him and the flexibility that would give us.

@JJetset when does pre-season start? I reckon Poch will think we've got until then to make useful signings for the first half of the season. End of August means signings for lesser comps this year and possibles for the first team next year.

I've no idea how Levy factors that into his valuations, but let's say, for arguments sake, that you sign a player - fee + salary - for a total commitment of 35m on a five year (transfer fee 20m, salary 3m (60k a week)). Wait to the end of August and you effectively bin one of those years, that means to make it worthwhile you'd have to secure at least a 1/5th reduction on total outlay, however can't do much with the salary so the transfer fee has to bear the brunt. On a 20m fee therefore he needs a reduction to 13m to make it worthwhile waiting until the end.

Basically I think if Poch demonstrates the players don't get in the side without pre-season then hopefully Daniel will realise it's a false or impossible economy waiting until the end of the window.

Question is, how could can he be.

With Poch managing him...endless.

I'd take young raw English Ross in a heartbeat. Poch and JP would make him unplayable.

That gives us two, maybe three weeks to sign players who will be ready for the first half of this season.

Come on guys, since when has Levy ever taken notice of the start of preseason?

Granted, we may have signed a couple early doors in the past but things often don't get moving until later on despite the clubs best efforts behind the scenes......same every year

They have almost unlimited funds at there disposal and that helps. But even then Liverpool are struggling to get deals done. Both Manchester clubs want some of our players apparently but have been unable to agree deals with us. Also always easy to complete deals on players that are either no better than you already have or are arguably the same standard as your existing players . Much more difficult to complete deals on players who are better than you already have.

Some transfers are 'easy'....take the possible Barkley deal, as far as we know the player wants to come and Everton have no choice so this could happen early.

More often than not though the selling club isn't so keen or wants to get a replacement in first......could be deadline day.

Not against getting Barkley as it would improve the squad but people seem convinced that Poch will work wonders with him but it is a gamble. There is a talent in there but the player needs to step up and work hard on the training ground.

Sissoko should have in theory improved under Poch but he is still underperforming...so you can't always bring the best out in players.
