Is JJ suggesting that he believes in the alignment of stars?

I'm still confident we'll wrap up 1-3 signings before the window shuts. The fact JJ hasn't dismissed/Put to bed the MS and MM transfers just tells us that talks are ongoing and everyone is still playing chess at moment. The panicking begins as the clock winds down which usually works in our favour.

MS and MM in would be a blinding window. The 3rd transfer is likely to be one of Remy/Depay/Martial/Rodriguez but it does really all depend on outgoings. I think we'll all be happy come Sept 2nd if the departures start end of this week

Neither of MM/MS will be a pretty lacklustre window for me

1 of MM/MS will be a pretty good window

Both would be an amazing window

Remy on top of those 2 will be a very welcome bonus. Depay on top would be wank-worthy. But I'd be very happy with MM and MS and wait till Jan for Rodriguez.

Do I expect this? No. Will I I be wrong? Hopefully. Time will tell

We seem to have a bit more of a strategy this year so I am in the hopeful boat. I just hope we don't sell some squad players and replace them with equals. It's a case of 7+/10s or stick for me.

For what it is worth, JJ's agreed with the assertion that player agents will be telling outgoings to hang about to late in the window to get better deals in their own interest, and/or the new squad limit rule is playing havoc with this transfer window.

Only for spurs. City ect get it done far quicker!
Just take a sec and think: Why would City be able to do deals quicker than us?

And by the way, their deal for Mangala took weeks and weeks, so your point is actually wrong.

Call me stupid but I still don't quite see how MS is pivotal to Pochettino's system in such a way that none of our existing midfielders can do a similar job.

Far more important we get the balance right at the top (attack) and bottom (defence) of the pitch IMO.

Do you not know how long the Mangala deal took? Over a month.

Signing a footballer with multiple rights owners isn't like buy your jazz mag of choice. Unless your jazz mag costs €22,000,000 and is owned by three separate parties with three conflicting sets of priorities, three conflicting valuations of the jazz mag and three different payment terms.

That's before you even get to our side of the deal

In three different jurisdictions.

Stupid! ;)
Name one of our existing midfielders who can do that job because I can't really think of one. Dembele can't (and is always injured), Sandro can't (and is often injured), Paulinho can't (and has been toilet for the last few months), Capoue has a different role and there's Bentaleb who is the closest but it takes more than a couple of weeks on the training field to do what Pochettino wants him to do.

He can pass the ball quickly forwards. Something we've not been able to do since Modric/Carrick.

Holtby? And like you said, Bentaleb. What does MS have that none of our existing midfielders do or can be coached to do?

He works hard. Can tackle. Has a particularly proficient sliding tackle. Calm under pressure. Very good range of passing but only moderate vision and flair. Not great pace. Not great dribbling ability.

Not much better than the lot we have, if at all, when we assess what he can/can't do.
