Do you think our rivals will stand still?

We havent stood still, we have got 2 exceptional young players this summer in Sig and Vert

Only change looks like losing Modric but we will cope, we didn't have him for ages with a broken leg and our results were no worse with him missing

We will be fine

Hardly reason to panic, we got 1 point away from 3rd lat year with the same squad

We have since signed a top top class defender and an AM that has potential to score 15-20 a season

Even if we start Newcastle game with what we have now minus Modric we should still do well, don't panic

we have lost king and will lose modric. ok we have signed verts who could and i stress could be brilliant signing and also goals from sig could be vital but to lose massive 8 out of 10 players every match and who have steading influence on us amongst other factors could be fatal.

we need more strength, pace, creativity ,craft and serious genuine competition in forward thinking areas. i was always concerned and like i said before we relying massively on a few players staying fit and strong.

I tend to agree (As long as we lock up Ade + another striker). They aren't the same player, but I for one am not entirely worried about losing Modric with Sig here now. Sig's a natural goal scorer, and while a lot of our play led through Modric last year, I think Sig is plenty capable to be the hub of our attack. Now, if we add Sahin to the mix via a Modric move, I think we are more than fine in the midfield department. We will finally have a solid rotation with a nice blend of talents to pick from given a scenario.

“@pokeefe1: @akqayid Lloris still No1 keeper target i believe. If not they have options, Mout we are miles apart in valuation”

This bloke usually exchanges tweets with akqayid. Sounds like Mouts is not going to happen. Porto president is the Portuguese DL.

And nor should it happen if they are still holding out for around £35m. I'm not saying I wouldn't want Moutinho or that he wouldn't do a good job, but there is no fucking way he is worth roughly the same as Modders.

Could Moutinho be the player whose value is too high because of PSG? If so we are probably right to wait, the quoted €30m is way too high. If not and thats honestly what Porto expect maybe we should forget about Mouts. I'm hoping Sahin has been convinced that playing for Spurs is better than riding the bench in Madrid. I can't think of too many other players that we would take a significant hit in Modric's cash for at this point.

For once I agree with you, lol. Bearing in mind that there's still several weeks to go before the Newcastle game ... as it stands and assuming Modric goes, plus with Sandro missing the game and Parker injured? I'm dreading the game against the geordies.

Bringing in a skillful creative midfielder/winger is a must as is a 2nd quality striker. As good as our 1st 11 is, the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool will be much tougher opposition next season. It's essential that we increase the depth of the squad if we are serious about challenging for the top 3/4.

Unless Levy secures a Modric replacement I doubt he will be going anywhere, we have a good while yet till the Newcastle game, plenty of time to make signings

Surely the Olympics players will be back in time for the first game of the season? The final is on the 11th and the PL starts the 18th I think.

Unless Moutinho is willing to throw his toys out of the pram and try and force a move a la Modric last season why should Porto sell him at all?

I don't think Moutinho has agitated for a move previously so like us they can hold out for what they deem acceptable - if that's £30m then it's tough tits on us but we can't praise Levy and then moan about like minded chairman who also do the best for their clubs via hard bargaining.

It'll be the same with Lloris which I think will happen but only after lots of posturing and hard bargaining...

olympics football is over week before season starts isnt it? so sandro should be ok barring injury!! we need a match winning striker on top of adebayor and more strength and creativity in wide area's and righta cross midfield for a start too.. get that before season starts and ill be fairly optimistic of top 4 . every point is crucial as last year proved to our downfall.

Great if that's the case but I think it's been reported for quite sometime that Sandro will miss the 1st game of the season? If it's not due to the Olympics - isn't there a round of Internationals the week prior to the season commencing? he may be on the other side of the world.

That'd be the best situation (including signing Moutinho) imo because it'd cost quite a bit less and allowing us to spend £20-25m on other parts of the squad. However, I reckon Sahin believes in himself and believes he can win a place in the squad as injury was the reason he didn't play not a lack of ability. Although, having to overcome Modric in addition to the quality already there may sway him to move.

@Jakdee No news is no news unfortunately. We are trying to move players and not sure what the latest is with the ade fee ?

Sounds like we're a little bit stumped at the moment. I'd be worried but it's only early days and we're in good hands. I'm sure we'll get the right players in.

Why doesn't anyone ever listen to our manager? AVB said that he would look at the squad and see where he needs to strengthen. Then we will buy some players but only after some have been moved on.

Until we see some of our fringe players being sold I doubt we will buy anyone.

I could be wrong, but I think he caused quite a shit storm when he left Sporting for Porto.

He did: (from wiki)

On 3 July 2010, Moutinho signed a five-year contract with F.C. Porto. The player fell under heavy criticism for forcing a transfer to a rival club after spending 10 years in Sporting's youth ranks, also being one of the team's star players and captain. Sporting chairman José Eduardo Bettencourt described Moutinho's conduct as deplorable: "If I had not experienced the situation, I would not believe it was possible to descend so low". Sporting awaited offers from other clubs but Moutinho forced the transfer to Porto: "We tried to get him to wait longer, so that there might be some offers from abroad, but Joao lost his temper and forced an exit to FC Porto, telling us that he had given his word to FC Porto".After this, he became a persona non grata at the club, being called a rotten apple: "The deal was done because Sporting wanted it, because it did not want a rotten apple in its orchard, and it did not want someone who was not an example, nor dignified the flag of the club."
The transfer fee was priced at 11 million, with €1 million being paid for 50% of the rights to central defender Nuno André Coelho. Additionally, Sporting would receive 25% of any added value occurring during that time frame, provided it surpassed the previous value. Soon after, Porto sold 37.5% of the player's economic rights to a third party, Mamers BV, for €4.125 million.
