I'm sure there has been various ITK over the past few months that we don't need to sell to buy. Now, obviously we do, good housekeeping, all about squad numbers, yada yada yada. Either Levy accepts he may have to take a hit on some of these players or he takes the risk that we'll be able to sell them or at worst loan them out between 9-31 August. Otherwise we are left hoping that someone will, against all odds, pay top dollar for the players that we don't want. A very risky strategy indeed.

But then you and others will be saying wait until the season is over for F.S etc etc.
So allow the supporters who wish to express dissatisfaction and vent.

It's clear to many in here that we behave like a small time club who are happy to make up the numbers in the PL.

Many a supporter has been patient whilst the stadium was being built.. Naturally theres an expectation that money is set aside to make meaningful signings. Yes i and many are also aware we still have to pay the stadium off.

We have inproved year on year without spending a forture like all the other clubs around us.
I entirely disagree that we act like a small time club, we work within our budget and are run in a fashion that allows us to improve our infastructure as a club and still improve on the pitch.

If you think challenging for the title is just making up PL numbers then what is it you expect from the club?
Everyone is frustrated about us not making signings but we are not a mediocre side that needs completely rebuilding, we are an established title contender with a young side and a fantastic manager....we have been told that money is available but we have a buldging squad, we need to shift players that other clubs dont want to create space.
All im saying is, if we dont lose any players we are no worse off than last season.

Oh great, nice one spurs. That’s all we needed. A new contract for Lamela to fill more endless pages of he is / isn’t good enough.

All info is much appreciated from the itk’s.

But Danny boy brought the squad players and will have to let them go below his rate. Most are good players who would grace a smaller prem side. When we play Llorente we stop doing the crosses. It has made my blood boil at matches where he has come on as sub. Play to his strengths and you would get a reward.

Liverpool are not selling any players yet but they sure have strengthened their team.

We need a marquee signing for our new shiney stadium.

Unfortunately at this level you spend high and sell low to get The trophies.

Our squad will not survive another year without winning something. This was all said by itk’s and Poch at the end of the season.

Bravery to you Danny Boy means opening your wallet now. Fucking Please.
We don't need a marquee signing. We only need to keep our key players, which has been done.

Liverpool had a windfall with the Coutinho cash and the CL run, plus they just sold 3rd choice keeper Danny Ward for £10m. Plenty more - Sturridge, Ings, Mignolet, Origi - available for several millions, with willing buyers.

There will be buyers for our unwanted players, just not at the Levy level. That first August week will see jet fuel poured onto the transfer market.

Winning something? The LC or FAC will make no difference.

Maybe the Club can’t compete with the top four in relation to finances, but it’s pathetic and there’s no excuse when they struggle to complete a signing of a championship player. Levy up to his usual tricks.

The worrisome part for me of the GF ITK is that we have had no bids on the players we want to get rid of. If the buys are dependent on the sales and we have no bids, I think that is definitely cause for concern.

I also thought Herc said early in the window that being “brave” according to Poch is buying before we sell. Sounds like that has changed. I understand why with wages and a bloated squad, but they run the risk of not getting anyone if they wait to get rid of the unwanted. There is a reason they are unwanted so Levy can’t expect good fees for them.

Hope it all works out. If nothing happens by next Wed, I assume we can all really get nervous.

The window for selling closing long after our window for buying closes will cause an issue with this. Most movement for clubs watching their finances wait until the latter stages of the window where prices are more realistic and panic sets in. Teams are probably interested in all of those players but if they are smart they'll know their window closing after the British one gives them a huge advantage when low balling teams that need to sell before they buy.

Taking a chance you'll be able to get interest in and negotiate deals for players after you've brought players in might have to be one of the things Levy has to be brave and ballsy about this time around as the window reaches its close. Get signings in and you aren't able to shift the £100m worth of players that we have on our books that we'd be open to selling and it leaves the club with £100m in the red on assets not sold and a wage bill that costs a further £20m that is sitting there surplus to requirements. That ain't chump change I can see why the club are finding it a little testing this time around

Unfortunately not all agree with you. The Liverpool squad players will be wanted as will ours at a lower fee. The difference is Liverpool and others in the top four accept and understand that.

You missed my point about the marquee signing. It isn’t for the supporters!

great to see these new contracts. Think Levy is clearly vexed though by the two Belgians running theirs down to a point we've not seen since you know who. I love Zaha but for that money we could surely buy ourselves a top CM.

The marquee signing shows the rest of the squad that we are shooting for something bigger. Otherwise what are we doing here? Great we were Top 4 last year, but the players want trophies. Not signing anyone while other squads are signing people makes it seem like the club is satisfied with just Top 4.

My gooner mate used to always complain about Arsenal promising the world at the end of the season. Saying they had money to spend and were opening the warchest. Get everyone renewing their season tickets. And then “unfortunately” failing to secure any of the targets they wanted. It looks like they tried. But they never really had any intention. Football is unfortunately a business now and with the amount of media about these days it’s is very easy for clubs to spread fake news to entice the fans. I hope I’m wrong and this isn’t the case. But does sound very similar.

Liverpool have been spending big money for years and still can't win the PL, Man U have spent a fortune on Pogba & others and still couldn't get above Man C.
Signing big name players doesn't always guarantee success, you need a plan, a system and the right manager , leave it to Poch.

No, I understood it. I don't see how we need one at all.

I do cringe when a new contract is sold as a new signing, or a player comes back from long-term injury and it's "like a new signing", but I'm gonna say it: We've signed up a team of top class PL players, with some taking a peak at world class.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

If we tried playing to his strengths then he probably would have contributed more.
Tbh I always thought it was clear that Llorente was never going to work out, my first post on this site was saying what a bad signing Llorente would be. He just didn’t remotely fit our style of play and had no resale value.
