That's debatable. Danny Rose strikes me as the sort of guy who'd lose an air guitar contest for bringing a bass.

As for your other comments...I doubt all of our players are patient enough to see if this gamble would pay off. For some it would only need some agent talk about "a mid-table manager with no track record of success" to convince them we're not serious about pushing on.

And they'll all be waved into the sunset and let go to pastures new with good grace by our dear chairman, as queues of top clubs come and wave cheques for £25-£30-£40m for them all.

Come on Spurger! It really doesn't have to be this way.

It'll be fine. The exodus will be small.

I think this appointment would increase the chances of a player wanting to leave because he is more of an unknown but I hope they have the patience to stay.

TBH, the ones who are stupid are the ones we don't care about if we sell them (Rose) so it's win-win...

Players that want to leave will need to be courted by clubs offering
a) a massive fee
b) huge wages.

Otherwise: they go nowhere. Any exodus is likely to be very small.
The only player i'd think highly likely to go out of our best 'assets' is Vertonghen.
Lloris seems happy & committed to me.

Could you do me a favor and put on here what JJ last said on the subject? I haven't seen it.

Not on twitter, but the gist of it was some bet he made with Easton ( I know lol) - who was willing to bet his golf shit that Poch wouldn't be our new manager...JJ replied saying he was looking forward to this new putter he was about to receive.

After that he posted (JJ) that we could continue to discuss the two names (Poch and FDB) but one was much more concrete than the other and contract talks were a lot more progressed.

Unfortunately I think the most popular view among the fans and the players is likely to be that a big name manager seems more impressive and indicative of the club's ambitions. Not saying it should be, but that's just how I can see the consensus going.

De Boer and Benitez would be risks, but I also think most fans and the players would have more time for them than Pochettino. If we get off to a slow start, I can see things turning against him very quickly, with fans and players wondering why we didn't push for a more proven manager.

I actually enjoyed watching Pochettino's Southampton last season, but for several reasons this appointment gives me a very bad feeling...where I can see Levy really getting some flack from the fans for this.

Starting to feel like Private Frazer from Dad's Army...."we're doooooomed" o_O

So who do we think will be first out the door? Verts? Lloris?

Not having a pop at Pochettino, but it just seems plausible that some players would look at this appointment, be unimpressed, and push to leave before he even holds a training session.

We only need folk who are committed to to giving there all for the club(like nacers interview). Bar Hugo our squad is not littered with world class players so I don't get the tired trotted out players will leave phrase, were they going to Newcastle? Villa? We don't know which of FDB or Poch will get the gig, whoever does we all need to back.

Sweet as. So last update from him is still:

"You can still debate the 2 names.
However 1 is much much more concrete and contract talks further along than the other!"

Personally, and I'm not having a go at Gards, but think that he (along with a few others) are jumping the gun on this one. Gards was adamant that Villa was going to sign (and I completely see how this went wrong).

I think as JJ says (more me interpreting what JJ has said TBH) we have spoken to Poch more and probably sounded out expectations, salary wants etc and are going to speak FDB (and maybe 1 or 2 others), interview him, sound out the same things I mentioned with Poch before making a decision.

I don't expect anything to be confirmed before the CL final.

IF (and that's a big 'if') he comes, I'll be quietly intrigued to see how well he does. Keep our best players, and win over the squad, and it could be very exciting. I'm also a big believer in Lamela coming good, and of all the managers we've been linked with, Pochettino is the one I feel could get the best out of him.

But my cider senses are tingling with trepidation.

And maybe I've just got me beer goggles on but I luv 'im and think we're gonna be ferocious next season.

THIS.

No one just "leaves" without Levy fleecing one of the elite clubs. Even then it will be a long battle.

Although, unless any of the said players are into the last 2 years of their contract, I reckon we'll just force them to stay. Like we did Modric a couple seasons back.

I think the only reason we broke this rule with Bale is because it was a world record bid.

Berba, Modric and Carrick were all down to the last 2 years which forced us into a sale to get a return on our investments.

I seriously don't think it'll come to that, I think the players will buy into him sharpish tbh.

Oh, not the 'fans'. :arghh:
The same fans that grumbled before Villas Boas had even sat down?
The same fans that couldn't understand why Redknapp went?
There's a fair few of these type of 'fans' about (I know you're not one of them) and to be honest if they can't see the bigger picture of the intention of appointing Poch would be, then fuck 'em. IT MIGHT NOT WORK. Poch may fail. Sure: but as it stands, he's a pretty logical appointment & hopefully will not be arrogant like Villas Boas or arrogant like Sherwood and fall out with players like Villas Boas or fall out with players like Sherwood. That's all we need: a tactically aware coach without a chip on his shoulder. Poch and FDB stand pretty equal on that IMO.

And the players? Well they can train hard & play hard and hopefully enjoy whomever is in charge of them whilst enjoying their already very comfortable and successful lives. One or two may go. Very few enhanced their reputations last season so very few may get that dream move and will have to knuckle down. So it goes...

We're not doomed. Far from it.

Regardless of who the manager is, it could depend on how good a World Cup they have. If they play very well, their agents will smell a pay day and will be in their ear talking about how much better they are than the club and how under paid they are and will be whoring them out to every rich club they can find.

Doesn't matter. They won't go anywhere if they have more than 2 years left on their contracts.
