This new contract, would it be to keep Gareth here for the new season, or is it to keep him here longer? Other than him getting more cash, if the plan which was widely accepted that he would give us one more season then it seems to me that this is more cash to stay here for this season?

Yeah, probably just extending it out to 5 years again. It'll mean he'll still have 4 years left on his contract if those roustabouts from Madrid Club Football come sniffing again next summer, increasing the value.
Maybe they're adding a buy out clause.
It would make sense in a way. Say they set it at £100m
That would also maybe incentivise Bale to make sure he looks his worth of that figure if he is itching to go to Spain next summer.
