But Pochettino, who left Southampton to take over at Tottenham this summer, said: "Soldado is here. I never talk about any player rumours.

"He is in my plans. For the future? Yes. Yes. We've only had two games in the Premier League and one in the Europa League.

"I believe in all the squad. It is important you know I can only pick 11."

England international Townsend, who also started the European tie in Cyprus, saw his first-team opportunities limited by injury last season and has been linked with a move to QPR.

"He is in my plans," Pochettino said of Townsend. "It is impossible you play or have in the squad only 11 players - you need 24 or 25 players.

"I think we have to play a lot of games and it is possible you play tomorrow, then don't play in the next Premier League game, but the most important thing is understanding that we need to choose for the games.

"It is only 11 in each game after that another three impact players come in.

"We have an unbelievable squad and my job is not only to put my philosophy in the club or on the pitch on how we need to play, but I need choice and that is my job."

So I found the quote I was looking for from above - and Pochettino never directly says the players will not be sold. He says he never talks about player rumours, and that Soldado and Townsend are in his plans. Of course they would be in his plans, unless and until they are sold. There is nothing in this interview with Pochettino where he says that Soldado or Townsend will not be sold.

The is no "active lying" here if either is sold in the next few days.

Think we might still try to shift Chiriches and Kaboul to bring in MM.

Fazio is a good option, but I'm not sure he's of the level to be Verts' primary partner.
And how much do you know about MM to believe he is?

And one that was very much needed.

I canno remember in over forty years where any Spurs Manager has changed the whole of a defence. Not once.
In Santini's part season (although it would have been Arnesen buying) we brought in Robinson, Fulop, Edman, Atouba, Naybet, Paramot & Zeigler. We also then got Dawson in the January window, so in 2 windows we bought 2 x GK's, 3 x DL's 2 x CB'd & 1 x DR.

I'm gonna piss on the chips a bit.

I think, based on how these things have gone before, that we could be done on incomings. Maybe we'll push a bit for Schneiderlin, but I can't see either side moving very far if the deal gets difficult. Fazio is obviously an alternative to Musacchio and the only other ins I can see are maybe a speculative loan, but only if it's on a plate.

Regarding outs: we'll likely see a couple but specific suggestions are thin on the ground, so possibly it's going to be loan time? Holtby never seems to be far from the exit door so is a likely option and I strongly suspect that deadline day will be waiting for loans to go out rather than wheelbarrows and £50m bids.

Obviously, none of that is much fun but we're better set than usual & squad space is at a premium.

I'm going to be on the edge of my seat until 11 pm on Monday. Just how it is.

Anyone else off on Monday hoping for another VDV kind of deadline day? I have a feeling there could be something special, even if only a loan deal and it could be from Madrid. A Jesse or Isco would be perfect for us and with there abundance of talent for that place surely one May be available... Not ITK just thinking out loud.

Personally, I find the ITK linking Soldado away a bit strange. Taking into account his off-the-pitch gelling with several players, Lamela, Sandro, Townsend, I'd give him another go. The path doesn't have to be too long from team spirit and friendship to great results. Ironically, among the players I've listed, only Lamela is sure to stay.

I did see JJ just say on twitter that Jan's contract is sorted. I think. Could have read it wrong as I'm knackered and I never told anybody this - but I can't read.

Saving the announcement of his new contract for when he is also named Club Captain! Tuesday is my guess!!

Your piles flaring up again, Boris?

They always do this time of year, rushing through my shits so I can get back to my computer and check if we've signed anyone.

I'll be using my laptop this time though so problem solved.

Wow, there's a few names for todays' cut. Edman and all that?

I dread logging into this thread in the mornings but today? It's like all my birthdays have come at once.

Enjoy the short while you have left in this thread.
