I'm worried that we have 4 main recognised CB's and no new contract for Verts. He is/would be in demand too and would command a decent fee. Smells fishy to me.
But that could just be I'm a yid and used to the feeling that it all seems/is too good to be true thus far

COYS

I did see JJ just say on twitter that Jan's contract is sorted. I think. Could have read it wrong as I'm knackered and I never told anybody this - but I can't read.

unless we loan some out, this can be done after the TW closes.

We can only loan to the championship or Russia after Monday, which wouldn't be ideal for the likes of BAE or Fryers, who probably want to be playing top flight. Maybe ok for Mason, Obika, Fredericks, Veljkovic and Ceballos though.

Don't think Fryers is cut out for Premiership yet, so I think he could go Championship. BAE was in the Championship last season too, he doesn't have a problem being there.

one or 2 things may happen yet....(outs and ins)
some things are near but not near enough to discuss.(assuming i will anyway)
Over the next day or so things should become clearer.
I will spend the next day looking for football teams that rhyme with names like my superb cryptic of Fazio....
Excellent cheers JJ. Thank crunchy im off on Monday, its shaping up nicely. Exciting stuff :playful:

I'm gonna piss on the chips a bit.

I think, based on how these things have gone before, that we could be done on incomings. Maybe we'll push a bit for Schneiderlin, but I can't see either side moving very far if the deal gets difficult. Fazio is obviously an alternative to Musacchio and the only other ins I can see are maybe a speculative loan, but only if it's on a plate.

Regarding outs: we'll likely see a couple but specific suggestions are thin on the ground, so possibly it's going to be loan time? Holtby never seems to be far from the exit door so is a likely option and I strongly suspect that deadline day will be waiting for loans to go out rather than wheelbarrows and £50m bids.

Obviously, none of that is much fun but we're better set than usual & squad space is at a premium.

Why no public announcement?

Vertonghen Contract Theory:

Vertonghen's original contract was a Levy classic 4 years + 2 optional.
As such the original part of the contract expires in 2016.

Bearing in mind the entire tenure of the original contract takes Vertonghen up to age 31, which is plenty old enough in Levy standards, then surely it's entirely possible that we've arranged to exercise the +2 option in his original contract, maybe even given him a little rise along the way.

As such the 'new' contract would be little more than a reformatting of details already agreed on his original contract & therefore not very new at all, less so something that would require an announcement.

Sure there was talk of a new 5 year deal but is that needed? Would Levy want that?

Just an idea, like.

The reason a new contract is important is because it shows he isn't going to be looking to move to united or whoever in coming months.

We already have him on contract for 4 more years, so that's not really the important part of him having a new deal. He could still push for a transfer with those years there.

Have to say I'd be more that content with Schneiderlin and Welbeck as our business. Outgoing wise would be sad to see a couple of the rumoured few leave but we have to accept our squad is fricking huge right now and needs trimming!

I reckon it will be MS and then we'll try again for MM.

There have been no other solid rumours

And the 3 things Poch himself has stated are i) no attacking players coming in, ii) Soldado going nowhere, iii) Townsend going nowhere, which assuming he plays with a straight bat, rules out a LWF.

Do you have a link to Pochettino's quotes (i.e what exactly did he say?)
