I would be shocked if we signed Toivonen. He is big but isn't a target man, definitely plays a lot deeper. He is reasonably talented but I am not sure he is talented enough and I would worry about is mobility. Not really what we need at all and I am fairly certain that our scouts etc. know that. There may be stories in the press saying that if we want him then we have to make a move now but I think it is more agent talk than anything.

Well that, my friend, is all in DL's hands. Danny either gets rid now or else he cannot rock the boat mid way thru the season. He's got to make a decision. If he gets rid now we will start all over again.
My one and only contribution to this discussion.

Has anyone considered that DL is prepared to let HR's contract run down this season with a view to Rodgers taking over the next?

It just struck me that maybe that is the reason he was shown around the club then wined and dined (so to speak).

After reading other ITK, claiming that HR has no say in the current transfers, it's had me thinking that maybe the club are looking for a smooth transition over the course of the season, bringing talent in, that HR can still work with, but with a view to Rodgers stepping in later once they have a season under their belts.

I may be putting 2 and 2 together to make 5, but it just struck me thatthis is a possible scenarion that hasn't been considered on here yet.

..........plus gallas mite be off!
While I appreciate the winning mentatlity that Gallas brought, and some immense displays (not least at Cashburden in his first season), this is pretty good news. A large part of his play last season was simply shocking, and I have rarely seen a worse centre-back display than his in the FA Cup semi. If he has a good offer elsewhere I would wish him well and breathe a sigh of relief.

I think if Billy left and we got Vertonghen in we wouldn't lose much in the way of winning mentality as it seems Vertoghen has that in abundance.

YEa I been thinking that exactly ever since I found out (on here) that Harry is coming in to the final year of his contract

But to be honest if that is the case I'd probably rather Harry just go now so we can get on with our future and not have a season cast in the shadow of managerial doubt because we all saw the impact having a manager with his eye off the job and a group of players unsure of who will lead them next season

There is that AM, but what if the agreement has been made with HR too? Unlikely, given the ITK stating that he has been offered a 1 year rolling contract, but still a possibility, particularly if DL has read him the riot act and told him enough is enough.

Is it possible that the ITK on him 'interviewing' in the UAE is HR doing the groundwork for next year?

One of the major problems with ITK is that it often raises more questions than it answers, this could be one of the bigger examples of that.

OK. I lied. More than just the one contribution.

I think we need to stop all this hokey cokey with Harry, either he is in or he is out. The indecision we had this year can't be allowed to continue.

Its possible, but again.....do we want a manager leading us for a whole year at such an important time in our clubs development if he knows he is not wanted at the club and his relationship with the chairman has broken down (not saying it has just using the example you gave for the discussion)

Personally I think we'd be better off paying the compensation than having him in charge under those circumstances, we saw how we sank like a stone last year when his future looked to be with England and we saw how Man U failed to perform the year Sir Alex said he'd be retiring at the end of the season.

Hopefully if Harry is planning to be replaced and himself planning to leave the best case scenario of him being offered a bump pay day jump in the middle east or America will happen and his new employers will be accountable for the compensation payments of his contract remainder
