Absolute madness if they honestly thought that big crowds and their related income were going to be kicking in by October and that was going to help with transfer funds. If this is a surprise i question their judgement

I am sure that we were told (back in the summer) that levy was concerned there would be a second wave so we could go without fans and that would impact on our budget. Although I suspect it’s more down to not selling anyone, probably because we want too much for our players, that further transfers are becoming an issue.

There’s plenty of other ways the club can raise funds to cope with the pandemic that doesn’t involve selling players. I suspect levy is more focused on those avenues to help deal with the lack of crowds.

Same for every club right now. The uncertainty is going to mean loans galore in the last few days
Although I'm getting a little nervous, this is the perfect time for Levy and his creative deals.
He could well be in his element this week.

I said at the time we should'nt bother with Bale until we fulfil our requirements.

I know it's an unpopular statement and I am happy that we got him but not at the expense of a balanced squad.

We are so bloody close to being a proper good team. I realise the financial landscape is uncertain right now, but it's gonna be a batshit crazy league this year, ripe for someone to take a punt and catch everyone off guard...why not us?!

It's been a very good window for us so far, hopefully it isn't groundhog day kicking in. Just as we're so close to getting the team challenging again.

Remember, we've also had info that Levy has always been expecting a second wave. I'm not sure he would have been expecting crowds back in October, he's too wiley to bank on that.
Exactly what I was thinking too. Crowds might have been back in October but if a second wave then came in November it would render it useless. Levy seems to have loosened some things in this window but he's not that risk and care free.

Seems like everyone outside of the very top level need to sell to pretty much stand still, but that also means a massively restricted market for top clubs 'deadwood'.

Loans and swaps seem to be the obvious solutions this summer for sure. Italian press saying Inter are open to an initial loan on Skriniar is good news in that sense.

It's not that it's not coming back in October, it's that no one knows when it's going to end. This could we'll be the entire season, and even beyond

We were very close to a deal a month ago and then United came in and he’s a big united fan (Josh King)
we are very concerned about money Right now thought there would be crowds in oct and now definitely not plus we are struggling to move players out for there value
the king thing is resurfacing as he’s the cheapest striker option of the 4/5 players we have been talking too
So, does this now mean the optimism for us signing a CB and striker has diminished significantly over the last few days, or are those positions an absolute priority regardless?

I think it’s still dependant on outgoings. Poker

At some point, something has to give re: fans in the stadium. NFL having decreased capacity at multiple stadiums.

If it means we need to spend more on a striker, then we should allocate funds for that player, rather than a centre back.

Skriniar is a very good player, but I'm sure there are other really good defenders who won't cost as much and could allow us to get our top striker targets.

Is Josh King a good enough striker option for where we want to be?
He'd be a great signing for a mid-table team like Burnley, Southampton etc, but I'm not sure he's what we need.

I'm not saying he isn't a decent player and he could do a job for us, I just think we need to aim higher and we have been with several of our targets .

Thanks for the info, Trix, and for whoring, Bubble.

There has definitely been rumblings of loans with some options for some of our targets, even Skriniar.

Hopefully we can do some good deals

This is what worries me, define "value". A lot of players are going for cheap now, if Levy is going to be stubborn and hold out for at least what we paid for our deadwood, we may be in trouble. We have many players that need shifting and we're running out of time.

This. A players value is determined on the open market, not by the numbers in Levy's Excel-spreadsheet

Bale, Kane, King and Son would be very good options to have as our striker options. It would be so much better than where we were at the start of the transfer window.
